The guy they claim has to stay on the NHL roster for 30 days before they can send him down.

I think that is not sure how that works since the rosters aren't set yet, maybe they would claim him and look at him and then waive him again if they don't like him. But Brennan is an AHLer at best.

I think they would take a guy like Prosser first to fill out a roster....just my 2 cents.

Not quite, it's just if they waive him within 30 days, the Flyers could claim him back and assign him directly to the AHL (assuming they are the winning claim).

Well, exactly. I'd just rather see more and longer term production before going all in. And along with that, he just finished his second NHL season. 25 in 63 as a rookie and then 55 in 70 in Y2.

I'm not down on the player, per se, just ambivalent about giving a guy $64M guaranteed after two years in the league. Also, a deal they didn't have to make rightnow as he is on Y3 of his ELC for 19-20.

I get it - it's around the same that Hedman got from TBL right before he broke out with a 70-point season. Of course, Hedman was 25 with three good ppg seasons - and two productive playoffs - under his belt when he got that contract. And after the 72 point season, he then put up 63 and 54...

To an extent, it might also be a reflection of what they need to do to keep players in the "trainwreck".

Smarter people than I who have watched Chabot since Juniors think he is worth that contract, so I don't know. I honestly don't think I've watched an Ottawa game since he broke into the league, so I have nothing to base it on.

  3. Chabot's a good young defender. You do have to consider where he played, and who he played with when evaluating his point totals, as well. It really makes evaluating this deal tough, considering the trainwreck that organization has been over the past few years. Is that point total depresed due to the poor supporting cast? Or is it inflated since he's getting all of the choice minutes that he wouldn't get with a more talented roster?

  4. So since I can't watch, I'm watching the Leafs play the Sens. Marner skating around, goes from the blueline back down below his own net, comes out, and casually loses the puck right up the middle for Ottawa to get the go-ahead goal. I know it's pre-season, but it made me smile.

    Don't tell my wife.

Speaking to that, wondering what Couturier will be down for when he comes up at 28 with multiple 30/70 seasons. One 20 goal and one 50 point apparently gets you $7.1M today (8.7% cap hit)...

    🤗

I've been wondering about that, myself. With Giroux up at the same time, will we essentially see a flip of what they're making, assuming Giroux slows down and wants to stay a Flyer?

Saad 's payday was going into his prime years, the 'hawks couldn't afford him.

So they traded him? I thought he left via F/A either way, he was a homegrown kid the 'hawks couldn't keep, the 'flyers won't have to think about that with Konecny .

Saad was a serious OS candidate. Hawks were capped out before free agency even started, so they moved him rather than risk losing him to an offer sheet that could have been very low on the compensation scale.
