  1. Since Cutter was drafted by the previous administration he probably felt "betrayed" by all these new ex-Flyer management types who wouldn't sign him and promise him a job last Summer.  Reports said he was ready to leave school but the Flyers insisted he play at least one more year of college.  Also the kid is probably well aware what a **** show this organization has been during his own lifetime and sees no future here. Can't blame him. What frustrates me is how the "great" hockey fans in Philly suddenly turn on their latest savior because he actually has a mind of his own.  They were cheering Michkov for saying he wouldn't play for the Capitals but now this kid is Public Enemy #1 because he didn't see a future with this organization.  Just like Torey Krug who also wanted no part of this moribund franchise.  Personally I've stopped watching Flyer hockey until the day finally comes when they just might wake up and hire people from winning organizations instead of just providing retirement havens for their old loyal soldiers.

Is there any reason in Chuckles tenure here to believe that the Flyers will improve anytime prior to him being relieved of his duties? I say nay nay. Unless he is being very sly and trying to bottom out next year for Connor Bedard.

My fear is that Fletcher will make more idiotic moves where he gives away valuable assets and cap space to bring in some middling level vets good enough to get this team into next year's playoffs where they will inevitably be eliminated in the first round.  Thus negating any shot at one of the top 2 picks.  Stay the course and continue to stink say I.  But that's never been the Flyer Way.  As long as they make a few extra bucks in the playoffs ownership is thrilled.

  3. Not only are they playing their way out of a top ten pick but I keep hearing rumors that Briere will be the next GM with Tochett as the coach.  And I'm sure Lappy will end up behind the bench again as well.  These nitwits just can't stop following the same old philosophy that has made them the Cleveland Browns of hockey.  Start stealing personnel from clubs that have won something in the 21st Century.  That would not only help your team but cripple the opponents as well.

Thing is I don't think Fletcher is smart enough to build a winner. Judging by what he has done so far in Minnesota and in Philly, if he is not fired all I see is more Ristolainen, Ellis and Hayes type signings in the future.

You just cant keep giving big contracts to players on the down side of their careers (Ellis) or 1 trick ponies (Ristolainen) of 4th line players making 2nd line money (Hayes).

In 50 years I don't think I have ever been so pissed off at this team.

I feel your pain and I'm assuming you're probably just as old as I am - even though I grew up in the Philadelphia metro area and have been a Flyer fan from Day One, about three years ago I turned traitor and started rooting for the Oilers (yes, I jinxed them too).  At least there's a chance at some kind of future with them.  It's been the same old crap for thirty years in Philly.

I'm a little shocked that you're not a fan of your nearer Canadian squads.  You know, the ones that actually come up with an elite player once in awhile.

Risto spent 5 or 6 years on a pathetic Buffalo team and one year on a loser Flyers team, I think he is sick of losing and will sign with a winning team if he has a chance to.

I rarely even watch the Flyers any more so I'm not up on things but if Risto has an expiring contract, why not trade him at the deadline?  I know that's what an intelligent organization might do but does he have any value to a contender?

Now, in fairness to the scouting staff, this was the same group that advocated drafting David Pastrnak over Travis Sanheim, which Hextall ignored. This is also the same staff that wanted Hextall to draft either Cale Makar or Miro Heiskanen over Nolan Patrick, which Hextall also ignored. As for Schmuck Felcher and Nature Boy, I fully expect once they're going, we're going to hear about how the scouts wanted other players besides Tyson Foerster, Cam York and didn't want to do the Ristolainen deal, so I'm not going to place all the blame on the scouts. They've been good at eyeing talent for years. It's been poor GMs who won't listen or trust them that's also contributed to the downfall of this club.

Ahhh...you're too nice.  Even if those after-the-fact stories are true, these same scouts haven't exactly wowed me with any of their later picks.  A few NHL third and fourth liners here and there but I'm not seeing any Jake Guentzels, Henrik Zetterbergs, Fleurys or Datsyuks among the Ratcliffs, Sushkos, Hogbergs or Wylies.  Hell, we even picked the shittiest Strome brother.  I'm not impressed with Dave Brown, Al Hill, Ross Fitzpatrick, Mark Grieg, Kjell Samuelsson, Nick Schultz or Wade Clarke evaluating NHL talent.

I don't get why people are acting surprised. Schmuck Felcher and Nature Boy Brent Flahr were going to make this club worse. The Assmus Stinktolainen deal was a bad move. Vigneault was clearly a one trick pony and was exposed for the overrated hack that he was. Several of our young players have taken big steps backwards because of the piss poor coaching they've received. The entire team is a mess and if Giroux is moved at the deadline, are any of you comfortable with Felcher pulling the trigger on a Giroux trade? The Flyers are where they are because of continual bad move, after bad move, after bad move. Whether it's hiring GMs, coaches, signing or trading or drafting players, their style of play, player and personnel development, everything is bad about this club. News flash - it won't get better either unless Dave Scott cleans house, and that means saying goodbye to some of the alumni like that drunkard Holmgren and my hero, Bobby Clarke. It's time to get fresh blood in there and completely overhaul the organization.

If they move Giroux, then that should trigger a full on rebuild. No more half measures. Keep Couturier, Konecny, Frost, Lindblom, Provorov, Sanheim and Hart. Build your team around those guys. Say goodbye to everyone else. Build properly through the draft. Sign free agents that can compliment your core players, not sign free agents to make up your core. And FFS, hire coaches that know a thing or two about player development. The fact that players arrive in Philadelphia and look completely out of sorts is inexcusable.

You had me cheering you on there for almost 2 paragraphs until you suggested keeping half the current team despite a teardown.  In my book they can all go, Couts and Hart included as long as the return is worthwhile.  The problem is that even if they got the number one pick in the draft these morons would forego Wright or Bedard next year and pick some Ukranian plugger instead.

  8. Phantoms lose again.  0-4-1 and have scored a whopping 6 goals so far.  Could this mean these prospects the front office has been creaming over for the past 5 years just ain't that good?  The Phantoms are being beaten regularly by Hershey and Wilkes-Barre whose parent teams have regularly traded away draft picks to stay competitive at the NHL level.  Yet somehow they keep unearthing decent (better than Philly's) prospects.  I've maintained for years that the Flyers' scouting department has needed a major overhaul.  Get rid of the nepotism in the front office.

  9. I admire the optimism of you guys but I've been a Philly sports fan for far too long to buy into the always rosy pre-season hype.  Despite the many changes I don't see the Flyers having the top level talent that other teams in their division have.  I'm pretty sure it'll be 50 years and counting between Cups.

Sure, I get you. He looks "promising". He had a good year. Probably highlighted by the fct that so many others had an awful year. But recently the Flyers have had a lot of guys have "good" years, shortly followed by crap years (TK, this means YOU). So I'm not really that invested in him, or any other player.

The Flyers are alot like the Eagles these days. Rooting for the team is the norm because Ive always done so. But the individual player that makes you more invested, becasue of their greatness, seems to be non existent. I can't think of a potential HOF player on the Flyers, Eagles or Philies. I don't care about the Sixers, so it doesn't matter anyway

In those down years where your favorite team is not playing at a high level, its nice to root for your hero. The days of Tocchet, Lindros, Clarke, etc. , seem to be over. It has been replaced by a group of "promising", or good "200 foot" players who seem to really shine when they get traded to another team

So, for me, I don't care who they move, trade or buy out. I just want them to get better so they are more fun to watch

Caveat... I would watch if Morin was playing. He actually has the ability to do something interesting every night by beating someone up

Finally found SOMEBODY that has the same feelings about watching Philly sports these days.   I almost don't care how successful they are - I just wanna see some actual top level, dare I say "elite", playing in town.  A generational player would be nice to see before I die.  I really thought Lindros was gonna be that guy but alas...

The only thing you said I disagree with is your last sentence about Morin.  I watched him for three years down in Allerntown.  He wasn't even a good AHL level defenseman.  Too slow and lacking in hockey sense.  I don't recall him ever starting a fight to get his team out of a funk or to defend a teammate.  Guys like Bardreau and Martel were the ones to stir the pot.  Big guy/little skill.

All these one-year deals reinforce what I said after Risto.  It has the feel of 2008.  Our GM wants to change things up.  Yes, maybe we get a shot in the arm.  But are we building a core taking up the Cup.  We hope Risto works. Jones--a reclamation project who has been sub. 900 the last three seasons.  Ellis isn't one year but pray he doesn't lose it. Signing Thompson keeps a youngin off the squad.  It worries me.

I won't hold my breathe on it especially after I seen how much they used Nate last time.

    Injuries always change things.

Off topic so when are you trading JVR I have been waiting all morning for the news to break and you've done nothing...

    ....my popcorn is getting stale.

Chuckles is making sure we get a great shot at Wright or Bedard in future drafts.  That is, unless he trades the picks away to bring in someone from the Wild instead.
