  1. That may have been one of those moments where you go --did I really just say that out loud?
  2. I was proudly and loudly supporting this signing when it came ---- and was suprised at hearing all the negativity from Flyers fans about Jagr -- because I knew we were getting a true, veteran professional ---in fact, a Hall of Famer -- that would be a perfect to fit in w/ our young stars.... Jagr is just so smooth and calm at all times (almost reminds me of a Hippie/Guru type), I actually think he was a perfect fit for Giroux, more than anyone, because I see a lot of similar qualities in Giroux --reminding me of a young Jagr w/ that point-guard type vision, skilled hands and rifle shot. Even at his age, Jagr is still skilled enough and big enough that he can sometimes just skate around w/ the puck in the offensive zone for as long as he wants -- fending off the defender w/ his body -- just waiting for the perfect moment for someone to break into his passing lanes.....he's got a lot less shooter and a lot more facilatator in his game nowadays..... and he's been thru enough playoff series in his career to have a calming effect on these young guys even when things are getting out of control.
  3. I agree --- I dont care if he is a star goal-scorer --- you cant have that bush league stuff in your sport and have guys get away with it.... it would set a terrible example if he wasnt
  4. The ironic thing is --- since neither Coots or G'roo were injured on those hits --- if each hit was looked at on their own, I'd bet he wouldn't be suspended for either..... but, the COMBO of those 2 being so close together in those late-game circumstances makes me think he'll get 1-game, atleast now.
  5. This has easily been the most exciting week of hockey I've ever seen....... 7 overtimes! -- the Flyers score 20 goals (whaaaat?) -- and one team, Chicago, scores in the final 15-10sec of consecutive games to tie it...... -- I felt like i was watching the NCAA Basketball tournament every time i turned on a hockey game this week...its been THAT good!
  6. OK --- any confirmation if just a #1 seed has been swept by a #8 before?
  7. Jonathan Quick is, no pun intended, quickly becoming my favorite goalie in the playoffs right now..... and Dustin Brown is a beast.... he's got Philly-type of player written all over him....
  8. I'm surprised its EVER happened..... do you know who it was?
  9. The pure dominance, comeback stories and compelling drama the Flyers have set out for the country to see over the Pittsburgh Golden Boys? ......when everyone on earth had this going 6 or 7 w/ heavy odds on the Penguins - now about to be swept away in shame? - OR - The #8 L.A. Kings holding a 3-0 series lead over the 2-time NHL point-leading Vancouver Canucks? Wow. -- I know it doesnt happen too often, but we see #8's beat #1s more than enough in hockey over any other sport....however, has a #8 seed ever SWEPT a #1 seed? Dont recall ever seeing that. BTW --- aside from the Flyers --- I'm pulling for Phoenix or L.A out WEST..... I'm always a sucker for some good story-lines.... and how great would it be if the Flyers were led to the Finals w/ all these kids only to be pitted against their ex-core in Mike Richards and Jeff Carter?? --- or for Phoenix to make a deep run and have Bryzgalov face his old team?
  10. I have to admit --- I thought even the National NBC announcers had enough of the Penguins yesterday..... most games I hear about how tough the Flyers are -- and how our crowd is rowdy, etc but they would still talk about how much talent the Penguins have --- and how good they are, etc --- but I felt a very pro-Flyers tone in the coverage for a change yesterday -- and after the Asham hit -- the rest was pretty much sour on Pittsburgh..... they even lost the national love yesterday, finally.
  11. Once we run the Penguins back into their holes for the summer..... I think the Flyers should stop, think and maybe learn a lesson from their lack of composure moving forward. There are just certain times when ONE team gets in the other's heads and nothing ever seems to go right.... you cant beat them. And then the frustration comes out and you get that classless display on maturity we saw w/ the Penguins yesterday.... Well -- if things were to line up right --- the Flyers may be moving forward to play the team that's been in THEIR heads all season long, the New York Rangers. If we matchup w/ NY -- and things start going downhill -- we should learn from the Pens on what NOT TO DO.....before your emotions let the series start slipping away. I dont want to get ahead of myself --- but while we all may be enjoying being on top of Pittsburgh right now -- let's just remember we could be in the same exact situation -- but on the OPPOSITE end very soon vs New York! If we keep our cool -- we can beat that team.....maybe in sporadic games here and there they didnt do too well --- but in a playoff series, we are built to last and can take those guys out in a deep matchup....

  13. There is no added benefit to destroying Crosby since we are the team that needs our guys to be available to PLAY in games moving forward.... since any dirty shots on Cindy will warrant a suspension..... unless they want to run Jody Shelly out there for some fun, then go ahead Lavs. Other than that --- the hit on Couterier was a sucker shot.... and if Giroux didnt duck at the last second, I wonder how much worse it would have been. ASh and Neal are done for the summer. Go home, children.
  14. @JackStraw I was all ready to start my diatribe adding in my experiences and knowledge to a good "Cooter appreciation thread" --- but then I realized this probably has something to do w/ a guy who plays for the Philadelphia Flyers. Dam it.
  15. The Penguins may be one of the few teams in the league that can neutralize our scoring depth, though..... I think the better defense wins this series. Period. And I do like the Flyers d-men and goalie better right now.
  16. It's the "HOCKEY GOD" as Bryz has stated that came to help us..... a singular force. Omnipotent. He doesnt need backup assistants to F' w/ the Penguins!
  17. Hey ANDY.... I really liked this Simmonds, Briere, Schenn line going into the game --- and those guys didnt disappoint! The Hartnell to Schenn goal may have been one of the prettiest Flyers goals I've seen in a long time.....that was a Red Wings type goal... most Flyers goals are grinding, brutal poke ins from a rebound down low.... it was nice to see a precision goal in a big moment like that!
  18. RE: Defensive play -- Not as easy to notice for the average fan..... --- but Courts has quickly earned a reputation as an up n coming defensive forward around the league....this is the time when play gets magnified.
  19. I gained alot of respect for Torts after that rant...... without realizing it, he may have thrown a bone to the Flyers in this series by bringing it out in the bright sun for everyone to see a week after the melee w/ the Flyers brought...... instead of the big, bad FLyers causing trouble w/ the supestar Pens --- this was a coach for the largest media outlet in the Country..... so, we may get an extra call or two we wouldnt have before without these incidents.
  20. Heading in to tonights series vs the Penguins ---- who do you think could be a surprise star or two? For the Flyers --- besides Giroux, Hartnell or even Bryzgalov --- give me a name or two and why..... My choices-- Wayne Simmonds: If Briere is indeed good to go this series --- and they ride out this line -- I really like Wayne Simmonds to shine w/ Briere / Schenn.....and I definately like Briere in the playoffs....he seems to save it for this time of year. Matt Read: --- is a guy who I think may like the bright lights and step up his game -- much like JVR did last year.
