  1. Holmstrom, Lilja recalled Sunday, 12.18.2011 / 12:15 AM / News Philadelphia Flyers The Flyers announced today that they have recalled center Ben Holmstrom from their AHL affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms. In addition, defenseman Andreas Lilja has rejoined the Flyers following his conditioning stint with the Phantoms, after being loaned this past Friday. Holmstrom, who is a native of Colorado Springs, CO, will join the team and be available for the Flyers-Avalanche game on Monday at the Pepsi Center in Colorado. He has appeared in one game for the Flyers this season, a 3-2 victory on Nov. 2 at Buffalo. With the Phantoms, he ranks third on the team in scoring with 16 points and is tied for second with eight goals through 25 games, and currently has a three-game goal-scoring streak. Lilja appeared in one game with the Phantoms, a 3-1 loss to the defending Calder Cup champion Binghamton Senators on Friday. Lilja had been sidelined since Nov. 25, when he suffered a high-ankle sprain in the Flyers' 3-1 win vs. Montreal on Black Friday.
  2. yeah, so? give Bob all the starts then
  3. I wonder what the Flyers W / L record is when Auger officiates their games? I'd take a guess and say at least 85% are loses. Any one know of a easy way to search the games or schedule with respect to the officials?
  4. WELLS FARGO CENTER — It just doesn’t end for the Flyers. Another injury came for a team that can ill afford any more. With 48.7 seconds left in the first period, Sean Couturier went down and needed the help of trainer Jim McCrossin to get up. Kimmo Timonen took a slapshot from the point and it continued to rise. Couturier turned his head and the puck struck him in the back of his head, on the left side of his helmet. After laying on the ice for a few moments, Couturier was helped up and skated off under his own power, drawing the loudest cheer of the day for Flyers fans who saw their team go down 4-0 after one period of play. Through Saturday’s game the Flyers have lost 83 man games to injury, not including Blair Betts and Ian Laperriere, both of whom are on the roster but have not suited up this season. At the start of the second period, general manager Paul Holmgren announced that Couturier wouldn’t return with what he called a “head injury.” The Flyers have already had four concussions this season among Chris Pronger, Brayden Schenn, Matt Read and Claude Giroux. While it would be speculative to assume that’s the prognosis for Couturier as well, the way things have gone in the NHL these days produces that fear. http://phillysportsd...g-shot-to-head/
  5. Text Size According to multiple reports, Darryl Sutter has agreed to become the Los Angeles Kings' next head coach. The club reportedly signed Sutter to a multi-season contract on Saturday and he will replace John Stevens, who was named interim coach after Terry Murray was fired on Monday. Stevens is expected to serve as the team's head coach for two more games due to immigration issues that will prevent Sutter from immediately taking over. Sutter has coached 860 NHL games, posting a 409-320-131 record over 12 seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks, San Jose Sharks, and Calgary Flames. He guided the Flames to the 2004 Stanley Cup final where they lost in the seventh game to the Tampa Bay Lightning, and then stepped away from the bench in July of 2006. Stevens will go back to an assistant coaching role.
  6. CANADIENS FIRE MARTIN; CUNNEYWORTH NAMED INTERIM HEAD COACH TSN.ca Staff 12/17/2011 10:28:35 AM Text Size Jacques Martin has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the Montreal Canadiens. Randy Cunneyworth has been named interim head coach until the end of the season. The team has gotten out to a 13-12-7 start this season and currently sits last in the Northeast Division. Cunneyworth had been an assistant coach with the team and had previously served as head coach of the team's American Hockey League affiliate in Hamilton. In one season coaching the Bulldogs Cunneyworth led the team to a 44-27-2-7 record, good enough to claim the AHL North Division title. The 57-year-old Martin has been the Canadiens head coach since the 2008-09 season. He has amassed a 96-75-25 record with the team. Martin has coached 1294 NHL games with St. Louis, Ottawa, Florida and Montreal, posting a record of 613-481-119-81. A team release has indicated that Larry Carriere will become an assistant coach. Cunneyworth and general manager Pierre Gauthier will address the media at a joint press conference scheduled for noon et.
  7. I thought that it was stated he had a concussion when he was out the 3 days earlier this season.
  8. Phantoms lost to Binghamton 3-1. I didn't see any reports as to how Lilja played.
  9. I think we have a solid 5-6 d-man pair in Bourdon and Marshall......Let them play.
  10. I think that is basically what I was suggesting as assigning an interim captain. ie. Hatcher When Primeau stepped down from the captaincy, that team was going through some rough times, and needed some leadership in the room. I'd rather see a pro-active approach here rather than wait and see.
  11. Not taking into account the Captaincy curse of the Flyers.....knowing that Pronger is out for the entire the season and playoffs, I do think the team should make Timonen Captain. (interim Captain then) But nontheless Timo should wear the C.
  12. Mouth guards also have to be worn properly. I was listening on ESPN radio yesterday, when they discussed how minimizing the back of the jaw movement during a collision or blow to the head with properly worn mouth guards helps prevent a severe concussion. I agree though there is a need for better equipment protection for the players heads.
  13. Basically said there are more concussions in the NHL now than before when he played. He wants to see the red line returned and the ice widened. Thus the speed of the game is slowed down. Obviously it is easier to go back to returning the red line then it is widening the rinks. The red line will slow the game down. Not sure how either of these two suggestions removes the boarding penalties resulting in head shots though.
  14. Keith Jones on DNL gave no new info on Pronger or Giroux
  15. Holmgren in a news release. “We will have an update on Chris Pronger [Thursday], once we have spoken to the doctors.”
  16. I thought that it was interesting the comment made by Lavy, that Bryz doesnt' quite "fit in" .....although he likes him It just makes me wonder if part of that not fitting in attributed to Bryz's early struggles in goal.
  17. So what did everyone think? First of all I thought more would be here, around to chat during the episode. I thought Anisimov's 16min penalty was a bit excessive. Is Laviolette being extra guarded in his taping? Taking daily concussion tests, must really suck.
  18. lol, thats about all this rumor would accomplish. I see no reason what so ever to make a defensive trade with Montreal.
  19. So maybe Schenn is a couple of more weeks away from playing. Let's hope so.
  20. Nope, remember Downie's suspension? The Flyers needed to wait till there was room under the salary cap to do the recall?
  21. According to assistant GM Barry Hanrahan, per Dave Issac's twitter...... Sestito was recalled and served game 1 of his 5 game suspension last night. I guess Sestito is exempt from recall waivers.
  22. Giroux out indefinitely with concussion. Symptoms have gradually gotten worse. Crap
