Listen, I am not a huge Bryz fan nor am I a Bryz hater, but I dont think Bryz is the biggest problem this team has right now and I just think it makes sense to keep him for one more year. I think if we amnesty Briere instead of Bryzgolov (we have plenty of forwards, most of which actually try to compete during the regular season) we open up some cap space and through the draft and trades hopefully our D is a little more solid next year. Then we will have an adequate chance to look at both Bryz and Mason and see if either of them has place on this team in 14/15. Also, you say that Bryz is grossly over paid, and for his overall performance you may be right, but I think his cap hit is 5.6 mil which isnt terrible if he can get his game back and turn things around. We got Mason for 1.5 because he hasnt been very good the past 2 years (with a terrible team) and nobody else was interested in him. However, a solid number one goalie (not an all-star but a solid one) is still going to run you what, about 3.5 - 4.0 mil? So the difference between that salary and Bryz is about 1.5 - 2.0 mil. Even with with the cap going down to 64 mil next year, I dont think that extra 1.5 - 2.0 mil is going to prevent the team from getting the other players they need to make the overall team better.

Agreed, Danny had some good years for us and for that we are grateful but the time has come to part ways. I will say that Danny made me eat my words because when we acquired him, I was pushing hard for Drury instead but boy was I wrong with that call. In my defense, I lived in Colorado for a number of years and watched Drury through his prime and as one of the cornerstones to the Avs championships and thought he could bring that play to the Flyers but he didnt have much left in the tank at that point and kind of fizzled out with the Rangers and eventually retired.

Well, given the Flyers luck, I wasnt betting on them getting the top pick even if they finished dead last! We've been there before and I have no doubt that it would happen again, especially if Bettman has any way throw the lottery. Depending where we end up in the draft though I could see Homer trading our pick plus another (or a player) for the number one pick.

Whoops, duh, my bad. I was thinking other teams could jump up too. Brain fart. So if the flyers fininsh the season in 26th place, the worst pick they would end up with would be 6th right? That's not too bad. I dont want to root for the Flyguys to lose games but.....

Well that is good news in the face of a loss!! Actually, the loss is good news too! While I cant bring myself to actually root for the opposing team, these losses don't sadden me. I want a top draft pick!

Jeez, that is rough. You have to endure a season like Colrado has and you still only have a 25% chance of winning the draft. I didnt know they had changed the rules ike that. Of course they do it in a year when the Flyers suck and wil probably get screwed out of a top pick again. Can you actually lose ground on your draft seeding with this system? IE.- if the Flyers finish in 26th could they actually get pushed out of a top 5 pick?

I saw a few guys on here complaining that Mason let in 2 soft goals last night in the 4-1 loss and I didnt get to see the game so I watched the highlights this morning. 2 soft goals - Really?? I wouldnt say any of the 3 goals I saw were particularly soft. (I assume the 4th was an empty net?) .If I remember correctly all 3 were from low in the slot, only about 15 ft away from the net and one of them was through a screen. Seriously, from that close in, I dont think a goaltender should be expected to make a save on a well placed shot. If he does, it is either lucky or it is fantastic save. I think some of the guys in this forum could beat an NHL goalie from that close in, let alone professional NHL shooters. Anyhow, the highlights really only showed the 3 goals that Mason allowed, but how did he play overall? Did he make any really good saves?

well if there is any justice, we will get a higher draft pick than our seed this year (I know, never gonna happen) because we may finish pretty low but I dont see the Flyers ending up in last and maybe not even in the bottom 5.

odds go much more heavily in your favor the lower you are though correct? that is how we lost out on Kane after all when Chicago won the lottery with a higher seed, right?

yeah, I thought about that, but if we lose the rest of our games some of our players may lose a lot of their confidence which isnt good either.

Yeah, I think there is a pretty good chance we have our goalie tandem for next year. I dont think Bryz will get bought out for a few reasons.... - Bryz hasnt been great, but the team has been pretty terrible around him. With a better team in front of him (primarily the D) I think his numbers would be markedly better. - Bryz does have talent and has potential to be a very solid goalie. I think if he realizes his potential he could be a top 10 goalie in the league, and I dont think management is ready to give up on him yet after only one and a half seasons. - Snider and Comcast have tons of money but even they dont want to eat the rest of that contract (35 mil left to be paid or something like that??!!). That's a lot of crow to eat. I think management would still like to see if they can get there money's worth out of this guy.

The man is a scum bag and if you think he is just a poor innocent victim then I would call those tinted glasses. If he had won 2 super bowls for the eagles I would probably think moire highly of him too though! Oh and for many reasons I hope I never get jury duty either!

Oh please. Polaris, I like you, you are a good poster, but you are wearing your yellow and black glasses if you truly think that Ben was the victim in any situation related to these charges. He put himself in that situation on more than one occassion (and I would guess that given this pattern of behavior there were probably other very questionable encounters that have never come to the surface). I did read through the other posts and there is nothing there that makes me believe that Ben is innocent and squeaky clean. Additionally, irrespective of his level of guilt in these accusations, his behavior and lack of sack to take ANY resposnsibility for it is shameful. The man is scum. Dont worry though, I think Michael Vick is scum too, along with tons of other pro athletes that think they are above the laws of human decency.

I was thinking that the only way Homer comes out of this looking like he has half a clue about what he is doing is if this deal is just "setting the table" for another deal with the ducks for bobby ryan or a d-man? I know, Iknow, that is putting way too much faith in Holmgren but I choose to stick my head in the sand about these things.
