  1. Everything needs fixing right now.  Hart isn't a sure thing, even with a better team in front of him.  Even in 2020 he ran hot and cold in the playoffs.  They need more assets and have limited ways to obtain them.

I could see keeping Hart If the Flyers were a team that had missed the playoffs after a couple of deep playoff runs and were reloading for another run.  What is 29 year old Hart going to look like?  Impossible to predict.

At the time* Couturier was in his prime (pre injury), had won a Selke trophy and was the best player on the team.

He was going to make big bank somewhere.

Maybe you'll remember a lot of guys getting out of their scoring slumps when they played on #14's wing.

The report was he took less .aav in exchange for term so the team could add more good players.

It wasn't a head scratcher, it was doing right by a player that had done right by the team.

The team was going nowhere at the time and bringing Couturier back for that long wasn't going to move the needle.  Trading him at the deadline the year before that would have moved the needle (a lot).  I said so at the time.

The Flyers need to learn how to sell high.  It's my biggest complaint the last 12 years.  Simmonds, Giroux, Couturier each could have brought in a massive haul if traded at the right time.  We waited too long in each case.

Provorov and Frost(sign and trade), #7 for #4?

I think something like that could work.

Actually, I think something like that could maybe be worked into a trade with Columbus for #3. Throw in Hayes with salary retention ?

I think I would try pretty hard to get Carlsson.

I've been all around the block with Michkov. I don't know if geo-politically he's feasible anymore. He would be top 3 talent if he were from Finland.

So, getting him at 7 would be a steal if everything worked out, but right now, that's not feeling like a possibility unless an Ovechkin type shows up for Philly and that doesn't seem realistic.

This is the opposite of what the Flyers should do.  They have few assets already (down picks, prospects, and cap space), and we're going to put all our eggs in one basket to trade up 3 spots?  We should be trading folks like Provorov for multple picks and prospects.

You're afraid to go all in on Michkov because of the chance he might not come over, but you're quite willing to go all in moving a handful of the few assets we have for one prospect.  That seems incredibly inconsistent and at cross purposes.

I - and others - have already stipulated we shouldn't spend draft picks to move Hayes or to move anyone else for that matter. Hayes can probably get picked up at $4 or $5mil and Ristolainen at $3.5mil is a lot more feasible - not "attractive" by any means but feasible. Under no circumstances should Briere consider sending anything besides a reduced salary - for either one of them.

I will believe this when it happens.  People wanted the same with JVR and Andrew MacDonald and every year of their contracts they suited up for the Flyers.

just because you want them off the team doesn’t mean someone wants to accommodate you.

I don’t follow you. Putting aside what it may cost in assets to move them (I agree with your later post you can’t give away picks to make it happen but I doubt that’ll be necessary) are you saying you want to keep these 2? How can losing them possibly make the Flyers “worse in the long term” ?

Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

Spending draft capital to remove problems means you don't have the draft capital to build on long term.

Ding ding ding, we have a winner.

I look at it like this. The Flyers have a couple guys making way too much money for what they bring. Solve that situation first. That doesn’t mean you blind yourself to other possible moves but the priorities are clear imho: trade Hayes and Ristolainen and figure out what’s up with Couturier and Atkinson. That’ll be more than enough for one summer.

Trading Hayes and Ristolainen will cost assets and make them better in the short term and worse in the long term, just like nearly every move they’ve made in the last 15-20 years.  If you want more of the same, do this.

  7. Outside of a few HOFers (and Hart is not a HOFer), goalies are more like relief pitchers.  They often have a couple of dominating years, sometimes in a row, mixed with average (or worse) years, and it's very hard to predict from year to year what version you are going to get.  Flyers shouldn't let their lack of even average goaltending for most of the last 20 years make them so enamored of Hart that they don't consider moving him for a good return if there is one to be had.

  8. I dispute the premise of these questions.  Beyond a few bland PR statements, what makes you think the Flyers have decided to "openly embrace a rebuild mentality"?

Briere hasn't made a single move yet.  It is all talk (that he hedged on).

I will believe they have started to rebuild when they start making moves that benefit the team in the long run (4-5 years) instead of the short run (1-2 years).  That doesn't mean tanking necessarily, but it means making moves that overall add to their long term assets.

Until then, it is all talk.

  9. fc's approach to Atkinson is a good one.  Right now they aren't going anywhere, so Atkinson isn't hurting anything and he would probably cost you something to move.  So it is worth a roll of the dice to see if he can come back healthy and play well.  If he does, he absolutely has value at the deadline this year or next.

You talking about the two 1st round picks a lot Flyers fans bitch about and want gone because they didn't wear a stupid shirt for pregame skate or shocked they signed to 8 overpaid year contracts too?

Sanheim and Provorov yeah so sweeet. Or the average goalie many say you can't even get some nice for in a trade??

Sure Konecny is nice. But incredible come bro for real?? No.

    A'ight maybe...

I'm saying I could probably go back to 2019 and find a bunch of posts of you excited about Hextall's picks.  For Fletcher's picks, it's too early to tell is all.  You're comparing a fully baked cake (a la John Stevens) to some unmixed ingredients.

But honestly Chuck's drafts have been better than Ron's (but Chuck did trade a 1st 2 years ago so hard to judge that one) and well chose York over Caulfield some will say.

If you looked at Hextall’s drafts + 2-3 years they looked incredible.  None of Fletcher’s picks have accomplished a thing yet.
