The computer simulation was one goal off.  3-2 instead of 3-1.  If you take out the stink bomb first, there were positives.  But Rask made timely stops.  And we have no Pasta Man.  Our PP isn't good.

On another note, I thought the ESPN coverage was good.  I liked Messier, Boosh, and the others.  The occasional overhead/aerial shot is different and gives a feel for the half-ice.

Farabee and Cam have some juice.  I am unsure about the rest of our forwards.  Yeo has some gumption going for the open net early.  But the losses pile up.  Maybe Yeo changes the bad habits.  But that won't matter much without the talent.

No disrespect, I just don't see what you see in Farabee. York on the other hand will be a stud in this league.

I feel your pain and I'm assuming you're probably just as old as I am - even though I grew up in the Philadelphia metro area and have been a Flyer fan from Day One, about three years ago I turned traitor and started rooting for the Oilers (yes, I jinxed them too).  At least there's a chance at some kind of future with them.  It's been the same old crap for thirty years in Philly.

I'm a little shocked that you're not a fan of your nearer Canadian squads.  You know, the ones that actually come up with an elite player once in awhile.

Year's and years ago mom was a Flyer fan because her nephew knew Bobby Clark in Flin Flon. She started me as a Flyer fan. I lost my mom in the early eighties so now there is no other team for me.

  3. Thing is I don't think Fletcher is smart enough to build a winner. Judging by what he has done so far in Minnesota and in Philly, if he is not fired all I see is more Ristolainen, Ellis and Hayes type signings in the future.

You just cant keep giving big contracts to players on the down side of their careers (Ellis) or 1 trick ponies (Ristolainen) of 4th line players making 2nd line money (Hayes).

In 50 years I don't think I have ever been so pissed off at this team.

I'm afraid you're right. Sign Ristolainen, Giroux and possibly buyout JVR (but I doubt it). As long as Ellis has a reasonable shot at playing next year the Flyers will convince themselves they'll be much better next year. And so they will be but that isn't saying much.

To be honest I think JVR will have some value come the trade deadline to a team that needs PP help.

He also threw in Phillipe Myers into the bargain. But hey who wants a young 6' 5" 215lb RH-shot D-man who skates incredibly well? That would mean someone would have to coach him, work with him to develop his potential.

Fletcher saved the Flyers a ton of work. He could tell by watching that excellent 2020-21 club...he could see 24-year old Myers had reached his ceiling in the NHL. Fletcher picked a perfect year to evaluate players. The Flyers played such a disciplined, tight brand of hockey all year. Clearly Myers (and Gostisbehere) couldn't keep up.

Ristolainen will be offered a contract by Fletcher. He gave up so much to get him and along with Hayes it's one of his marquee signings (in his mind) no way does he let him walk.

Not much point in "What ifs?" the answers are obvious anyway. If they weren't after Hayes they sure are after Ristolainen.

F'n Hayes is useless, and that 7 million contract makes him even worse.

A a no talent slag taking up that much cap space is beyond stupid.

At best he would be a 4th liner on any cup contending team.

Fletcher has no clue how to assess talent. To be honest I would rather have a broken down Patrick over a broken down Ellis. He'll Patrick is young and may become healthy and a better player with the right coaching. Ellis is over the hill and oft injured. Hell we would still have Myers.

    Fire Fletcher Now!!!!!

I'm not so worried about Ellis when he gets healthy he is what they need to help get this team right.

The problem is he can't do it alone.

I would keep Ellis, Ivan, York and Zamula.

Make me an offer for the rest of the junk...

Lol @ "when he gets healthy"

Pretty sure you're an "if" he gets healthy. Which he won't, Fletcher was sold danamagef goods and was more than happy to pay top dollar for the privilege.

  7. FFS.......I can see why a lot of you have given up watching this team.

I'm a stubborn old diehard so I guess I will continue watching when I can.

Why the hell has Yeo not been fired.

Christ Sakes he has no system on offence or defence, it's like a freakin free-for-all out there and they are often caught out of position.

I get that the old guard management are a big part of the problem, but hell Fletcher and Yeo are far from NHL caliber.

Jeez, they have to fire Fletcher before the trade deadline or the shelves will be empty.

    JVR might have some scoring

value to a team looking to make a run, the rest of these F'n idiots won't return much but a good GM has to try.

When Hextall took over I'm pretty sure the Flyers had zero "homegrown" talent on their roster. Give it another year Fletcher will have them there again.

Fletcher is useless, he needs to be gone before this team is gutted of talent and draft picks and full of no talent over the hill has-beens making way more money than they were ever worth.

Fire him now before the trade deadline, let the new guy decide who goes and who stays. I don't trust Fletcher to make a sane decision at all.

He's one of the few who plays every shift the same way:

"We take the shortest route to the puck and arrive in ill humor."

I remember when the whole team played like that, when teams hated coming to the Spectrum because they knew it would be a real battle. Win lose or draw they always knew they'd been in a fight.

    I remember those days also.

Thing is you can't play like that in Betman's NHL you would spend the game in the penalty box.

Christ you barely touch somebody and you get 2 minutes.

I am not a fan, but it is what it is.

Players are to big fast and strong these days to let them play old time hockey. The injuries would be devastating and possibly career ending.

Top players don't reach UFA often.

After the past 10 years there's nothing attracting top players to Philadelphia.

As long as Holmgren/Clarke are in charge we're stuck with where they are.

As we have been for a couple decades.

Clarke and Holmgren are dinosaurs of the old NHL and shouldn't be in charge of anything, on this we agree.

Not sure why Comcast is keeping them around, I guess that happens when the team owner (Comcast) don't know hockey from their arseholes.

So you're saying this isn't a franchise players and coaches want to come to?

    Yeah, good point.

It's exactly the one I was making...

No I'm saying a good GM would have no problem bringing top players here. Not over paying for players beyond their prime.

Case and point, trading Myers and Patrick for Ellis. Now Ellis is another big contract with the player on the downside of his career. Then Nashville flip Patrick to LV for Cody Glass. Pretty sure you would have liked to see Glass in a Flyers uniform. Not?

Trading away Ghost and picks for nothing another idiotic Fletcher move. AV was using him wrong like AV was using a lot of players wrong.

Not even trying to talk to Quinville was a huge mistake even if he was 99% going to Florida. You always try to bring in the best you can, if you are settling you aren't doing your job.

I will give you this though.

The Flyers are trying to GM like there is no Salary Cap in a Salary Cap league.

Best conversation I've had on here in a long time....cheers.

    Hextall signed JVR.

    No, really.

    Go on...

Okay, I was just going off your post above, my bad.

But blaming the franchise for top FAs not coming here instead of placing the blame on an obvious inept GM is just wrong.

This roster is such a mess, loaded with overpaid mediocre players with no-trade-clauses in their contracts, and few assets coming up it will take a top GM 5 years to fix it.

Fletcher is not even in the top 50% of GMs in the league

  14. 39 minutes ago, radoran said:

    I don't.

    That was the point.

    Try to keep up here.

Not sure you understand how free agency works and how a good GM uses it to improve his team.

Like I said it has absolutely nothing to do with the team or the city.

Saying top FAs don't want to come to the Flyers is just plain wrong

They go where the money is.

Fletcher paying JVR and Hayes to top money long term contracts is the problem not the franchise.

Hell Fletcher couldn't even be bothered to try and talk to Quinvill he just hires a has been like AV, no wonder he can't build a winner here.

    Try and keep up okay.

  15. 11 minutes ago, radoran said:

    I get that.

Quenneville had a relationship with Dale Tallon that made it pretty clear he was going to Florida.

Fletcher could have formally "asked" and risked being turned down flat. So he didn't.

    "Quenneville hired as Panthers coach"

    https://www.nhl.com/news/joel-quenneville-hired-as-florida-coach/c-306572790

The Flyers are simply not the slam dunk go-to team any more.

The last two "big name" FAs that signed here are Hayes and JVR - and we see how that's gone...

Lol it's funny you think those two scabs are big name FAs.

Not bringing in FA talent is a product of an incompetent GM not a factor of a team or city. In the new NHL money talks. Talent will go where they get paid.

Fletcher has proven he can't sign talent because he over pays for scabs like JVR and Hayes. Then gives away assets for next to no return.

Any GM worth his salt would have contacted Quinvill even if he 99% sure he wouldn't come to Philly.

Until Fletcher is gone and a competent GM is brought in you can expect the paying top FA money to middle of the road players will continue.....it is the Fletcher way.
