  1. So which trade hurt the organization the most?  Sorry I am tired of rehashing how bad they are so I thought I'd beat this dead horse again.

    1. JVR for Luke  Schenn

    2. Richards for Simmons and Schenn

    3. Carter for Voreck and Coutourier

PS - I hate this team so much now I can't even bother to look up the correct spelling of their names.  I say Richards for Simmons and Schenn.  I would take Richards and McGinn right now over Simmons and Schenn.

Simmons is playing like a 4th liner at best and Schenn should be playing in the AHL.

  2. They can't pass... They can't receive passes. They can't enter the zone on-sides.

They are losing nearly every single board battle... Even on the PP.

They can't hit the net.. Their legs aren't moving.

Let's see... What am I forgetting!? In short.. This team simply sucks.

This pretty much sums it up.

  3. That's a pretty stupid statement. One players does not negate a youth movement. Not to mention, he's pretty much their best forward right now.

That is a very stupid line of thinking. They sacrificed long term gain for short term pain by signing them. They expected a short term gain out of the signings of which is not coining to fruition. Thus there is now both short and long term pain and the organization is in a terrible position. Sure vlc is their best player for the past month but that has gotten the team squat! And where does that leave them in three years? Is he still the best or is the team hamstrung by both of the contracts of vlc and streit?

  4. Yes, I am also one that is embarrassed. I woke up early today to hopefully see that Holmgren had been fired.  No luck....yet. But think about it, we had somebody playing in the Swiss league as our top line winger for most of the season?  Our team is made up of bad trades, retreads, buy-out recipients and waiver pick ups...add some no trade clauses and a sprinkle of new coaches and that is a recipe for disaster.

  5. This whole situation makes if even more embarrassing to be a flyers fan.  Emery had no business. At the very least he should have held up at any one of the three times Holtby had fallen. Punches to the back of the head like that are not cool.  Also the ref should have stepped in.

  6. I don't understand the "hate" on Meszaros. I love how we can all have differing opinions. To me he has been fine. Kimmo, in my opinion, has been the weakest of the group.  He looks so slow out there. We have had some slow d-men before but they were at least big and thus had a longer reach which Kimmo does not have.  I don't like Kimmo on PP1 but if it keeps the pairings together (which the new dmen pairings do) then perhaps it is ok.  Personally from what I have seen I would rather Streit on PP1.

  7. I see the first line helping out the rotation after PP1 but that is about it.  Read and Lecavaier were about the only things going and now he splits them up and puts Read on the 3rd line?  Put Simmonds on the 3rd, Read on the 2nd and Vorecek back up on the first.

Simmonds has hustle and I like his game but doesn't have the hands to play 5 on 5 with G in my opinion.

@ hf101 I see it as Cobourn and Grossman as the 5/6 men in the rotation. I actually don't mind the D pairing assuming most will get the same 5 on 5 ice time.

  8. It is funny, when this thread came out I was thinking the exact same thing. For the first time in my life that excitement of starting a new season and just hoping it would be the year was not there.  I had some mild intrigue to see how the new additions have been but that was it.  I am sorry to reaffirm myself that after 2 games it has not changed. Ordinarily after 2 games I would certainly have cut them some slack but I just don't see it with this team.   Is it that our good forward group is, as a group, overrated?

  9. You know it is bad when 2 games into a full season flyer fans are asking about coaching changes and upcoming drafts. I must say the first game gave me some hope but the 2nd game took that away.

  10. It certainly wasn't not a fun game to watch as a flyers fan.  Spending almost an entire period short handed doesn't help.  It has really been much of the same as last year.  At this point it doesn't matter who they have in net.  I must say however that I like how Vinny and Matt Read are playing. It would be nice if Simmonds can accept a pass and have a bit more puck skills. It seems the puck just bounces of his stick a lot. I also have liked Streit which is a bit surprising. I would now rather see Streit on the 1st PP than seeing Kimmo taking another penalty for hold/interference on the PP when the puck is turned over.  I like how couturier got a hair cut in the off season. Other than that it is pretty depressing.

I also like the fact there is another game to watch. As a fan I can always hope they can turn it around...

  11. 4 years, $14.5M, $3.625M annual cap hit.

More money than I was expecting, less than I was fearing. Overall, I think we can live with that.

This is an excellent signing.  I am extremely happy with this. This contract was less money than I expected.  I figured he was getting in the $4.25 to $4.5 a season if he had gone to free agency.

Now I hope this is not a sign and trade deal.

  12. Why trade Coots though at all, I do not understand? Why sign Vinny and trade Coots why not just take the time to draft defense and keep your young guys at the same time? Coots is marketable so is Giroux doesn't mean we should trade him because we have a whole in the defense. Yes we are center heavy but it doesn't make sense to me to draft a guy to trade him a year + later...Take the time and draft to fill the holes. What is wrong with having Giroux, Coots, Schenn, and Laughton as your centers. You would be running four solid lines for years. It does not make sense to trade a center for a dman and take an aging player like VL and plug him in the center position for a few years to fill the void you made. I think it is a lateral move you fill one void by creating another. Yes I would like a player that was picked 8th overall in the draft to have a weee bit more talent then Handzus which I think Coots has. Why not move VL to LW see how he does?

You trade Coots now because the Flyers have too many centers. So you either play them out of position which could work out or you trade to get a young talented defenseman. Did I say trade Giroux? I would hope that somebody could see the difference between wanting to trade Coot versus Giroux. Most teams draft the best available player. I believe that is what the flyers thought when drafting Coots. So if Coots does turn out to be a great player but could fill a team's need via a trade then you have that luxury. 2 does not equal 1. Sure trading Coots for an equally talented defenseman is a lateral move but then by bringing in VL as part of the equation is a net upgrade. Your are suggesting to move players to play out of their nature position. I am suggesting to trade an excess asset for an equaled valued asset of a different kind. Bogosian was drafted 3rd overall in 2008. Coots was drafted 7th overall in 2011. Draft position aside, I think that is a fair trade the benefits both teams. Jesh, it is not like I am suggesting they trade Coots for Gonchar.

  13. I never got this trade Read movement. Terrific speed and skill for a bottom tier salary. We would never replace his all round play, but a replacement forward would at least cost double the money. I sit on him, hope he has a break out year and then, if you don't think you can squeeze him into the cap, you get much, much more for him at the deadline. I see Read netting 30+ goals next year, depending on his linemates. I understand wanting depth and scoring on the top 3 lines, but the team is doing Read and itself a disservice by sticking him on the 3rd line, he's a top 6 forward. Plus, if he is moved at the deadline, you get much more for him if he's playing with skilled forwards, his point total would increase and so would the asking price.

This. But I still don't think Coburn should be traded at all.
