  1. More stats: 100 blocked shots (T-33 in the league) despite averaging just 19:00 minutes of ice time per game Solid move for both teams. One of those draft picks is from the Powe trade, and the other is the thrown in 2nd from LAK.
  2. TRADE ALERT: The Flyers have acquired defenseman Nicklas Grossman from Dallas in exchange for a 2012 2nd round pick, previously acquired from Los Angeles, and a 2013 3rd round pick, previously acquired from Minnesota. https://twitter.com/#!/D_LEED
  3. Prior to injury, Pronger had 12 points in 13 games skating 22:29 ATOI. So while not, I don't know, 1999-2000 nasty, he still remained a superstar nonetheless
  4. No team is perfect. OF COURSE all six guys wouldn't be making clean outlet passes, even if you had six Ray Bourque's playing D. The Bruins would be vaguely weaker without Chara? Are you kidding me haha? The Bruins would be awful without Chara. He plays the most ice time on the team game in and game out. Even at 41 Lidstrom leads his team in ice time. These guys are the key and centerpiece to their team's success, just like Pronger to the Flyers. While I agree that it is a team effort, on top of just being elite players, Chara, Pronger and Lidstrom bring leadership and control to how the team is run. But here's the question: If an elite system of powerplay killers gives up 3 goals per sixty, regardless of talent/scheme, why aren't three goals scored every game in hockey by each team everytime? Is that a system issue? Is that a player personnel issue? Pronger would bring back order to the defense, and at least prevent a bunch of these really crappy goals from happening by helping to clear out the crease in front of Bob. On top of the system gambling the defense has been choking up pucks, leading to awful goals and on top of that poor goaltending by Bryzy and Bob. Although the more I look at his Hurricane cup team, there seems to be a lack of talent on the defensive side, but had an incredibly strong leadership core, with Recchi, Brinda'mour, Weight, Whitney. Maybe the Flyers are missing the leadership of CP20 more than anything else.
  5. Peter Laviolette - 350-248-25 point percentage .575 John Tortorella - 368-311-37 point percentage .537 Both have Stanley Cups. Losing Pronger has sapped the heart out of the team. I agree that leadership is becoming a big problem -- Timmo is trying to fix that now, maybe a public shot at team helps. I don't think enough can be said about the loss of our captain
  6. This is neither Lavy nor Holmgren's fault. The Flyers are hindered by an injury to their HOF captain defenseman -- which would slow down any team. Imagine the Bruins without Chara, Red Wings without Lidstrom, etc. And I know, it's tough to play the injury card but for the Flyers CP20 was the key to a cup. The offense is one of those where you can plug in a lot of different players that are probably average and make them look good, see Ville Leino and probably Matt Read. IMO, the key for the Flyers right now is to get a new #1 defenseman. Timmo is awesome and a legend, but he [just like any defenseman] can't do it on his own The fact of the matter is the coach nor the GM are the problems; the Flyers have an unfortunate history with injuries and this year is no different.
  7. I was being sarcastic about him leveling Jon Sim... Did Mr. Sim not make the trek over here?
  8. He's a Flyer. The Flyers have always struggled in shootouts (19-37 since 2005 or some ridiculous number like that)
  9. Can't we get his name once on the cup first
  10. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Although the more I think of it, the more I agree with you. Forget Carter... unless it's straight up for Bryz. lolz
  11. I know, it's just speculation, but what about Bryz and 2nd round pick to Tampa for Ryan Malone, Bruno Gervais and Dwyane Roloson. Tampa does this trade to solidify the goalie position, an upgrade on Roloson for 2 million more. Additionally, they clear off Malone, who is dramatically overpaid. The Flyers, on the other hand, open up the goalie spot for good for Bob while still keeping a decent backup. Additionally, they get much needed size in Malone, depth at defense and clear off Bryzgalov's salary. Malone may also make JVR slightly more expendable a la a Suter/Weber/Jack Johnson trade. Again, all speculation.

  13. The defense is going to make turnovers. The offense is going to leave the D in vulnerable spots. We know that already -- it's the style the Flyers play. But what I've seen out of BOB these past TWO years proves that he is up to the challenge, despite speaking little english and barely having time to adjust to the American style of play. It has nothing to do with cheaper. The Flyers do not care about the money... Rathje... it's all about the level of play. Bob is playing at an elite level, this year and last. He MUST be the goalie moving forward. Ilya literally loses focus consistently. Ilya does not seem to have quick enough reaction time. I was a huge fan of Bryz coming into the year, but it's becoming apparent that it was the system in Phoenix. Bob is good, very good, in our system. Yes he struggled last year in the playoffs but likely to fatigue. I pray that the CBA has (at least) one buy-out clause like the NBA.
  14. #CBJ C Jeff Carter has a separated shoulder. https://twitter.com/#!/Aportzline
  15. Simmonds is 23... Otherwise I agree 100%. Future is bright!
  16. In the games where CP20 has played, Ilya Bryzgalov has been above average. 228/250 for a .912 save percentage. Without Pronger, 394/449 for a .878 percentage. Yuck.
