  1. the flyers have a ton of talent, but its really just offensively at this point. amazing how such a deep D corps looks hollow just a season later.

many teams have a ton of "young" talent waiting to blossom. gotta capture your opportunities when you get them. we'll be contenders for the next decade like every decade since ive been born. no cup for me yet though. eff you guys that have seen one other than on the 25 yr anniversary VHS tape and the 40 yr anniversary DVD.

  2. That will not happen because Snider and Comcast spent big for this guy and corporate never admits mistakes. Thus, no goalie tryout.

they just traded 2 guys they gave 10 + yr contracts to before the 3rd year of each last offseason. dont think they have a problem admitting mistakes. they'll do whatever it takes to win. causes problems in team development sometimes.

  3. That's not true. We were the next to last team in the conference when Stevens was fired and Lavy not only made the playoffs from that point but made the Finals.

lol. we were over .500 and in 10th. we finished 4 pts ahead of 10th. excellent turnaround from that terrific coaching. bounce goes the wrong way against the rags we are in 9th. pronger took us to the cup finals, along with most of the same group that took us to the conf finals 2 years prior with stevens. lavvy just didnt have to match up with the pens that year.

  4. As unlikely as it seems, but can we at least consider it? The whole team just looked totoally braindead this series. I watched the Devils-Florida series, and it really looked to me like Florida was a better team. At least they were attacking and pressuring and could've easily won Game 7.

I just can't find any reason for the Flyers looking *that* bad. Could Lavy's style just start getting the players robbed the wrong way?

i dont think he is rubbing them the wrong way but there is only so many times you can "go to the well" so to speak with the timeouts and the motiviational speeches. at some point it comes down to strategic adjustments, which i saw none of. doens tmean they werent instituted i just didnt notice.

facts are lavvy could easily be fired by now if the rags won that shootout 2 years ago. we were not a better team once stevens got fired. we collapsed and had to make the playoffs in a SO on the last day. last season we collapsed for the final 3 months. this season i feel we lost to a team we were better than man for man. i dont want him fired because a little consistency in system for multiple years doesnt hurt, but he is not super-coach who can magically call timeouts and make everything better every game. we shouldnt need to use the TO every night. something's wrong if thats the case.

  5. i wouldnt call it a rebuilding year either, unless you call the devils year a rebuilding year. other teams young players will get better too, they will bring in good new players as well. every playoff opportunity is a year you can win the cup. the rags, pens, devils, bruins arent going anywhere and other teams will step up.

i thought we had a better team than the devils from top to bottom, this one hurts bad like every other year. i dont take solace in the so-called rebuilding.

  6. puck goes into the corner, followed by a flyer and a devil...and the devil is tending to emerge with the puck on his stick. add to that less than stellar work from bryzgalov and you have a 2-1 series lead for the devils.

agreed, and if there wasnt also less than stellar work from brodeur we'd be down 3-0 on the brink right now.

  7. Still hoping for Flyers vs. Kings.

Giroux needs to assert himself again & lead the way (like Mike Richards did last night for the Kings). It's what [future] captains do.

    andy,

the people who arent morons knew what richards was. for this year alone id rather have him than schenn and simmonds but for the future hopefully schenn is a better richards. cannon had a gordie howe hat trick in the playoffs last night. big game player, always has been

  8. Most of us did not expect the Flyers to make a Cup run this year

doesnt matter. once you're in the playoffs and you have the better team (which is debatable but i think the flyers are a little bit deeper than the devs) you wan tto move on. you think the devils expected to make a cup run this year? st louis? tampa last year. gotta take every opportunity like its your last. a loss in this series would sting-----BAD.

  9. Maybe they should start treating Kovalchuk and Parise like they treated Crosby and Malkin, with hatred and wanting to beat the crap out of them. They know they can't go back to Philly down 3 games to 1 so sunday they have to bring their best effort of the series. There might be some truth that they don't want to make mistakes because they know it will end up in the back of the Flyers net. Let's face it, in the Pittsburgh series, Fleury was worse than Bryzgalov, so that's saying a lot as to how bad Fleury played. The Flyers strengths is their speed and offensive and we've yet to really see that like we did in the Pens series. The teams they're facing now are way better defensively than the Pens and the Flyers haven't adjusted to it yet.

parise like giroux is very hard to hit. he is also tough as nails. i am not sure ive seen him lose a puck battle all series. the bryz argument is over imo. he was terrible 90% of the year, terrible in the 1st round, but he has played better than both goalies he's faced imo. brodeur is giving up horrible rebounds, getting beat on clean shots, and misplaying the puck just as much if not more. the problem is they have the puck all the time.

  10. Sucks that the Devils fans won't admit that the Flyers didn't give any effort tonight after the first. I need to stay over hear because I keep getting infractions on HF Boards because I can't contain my need to point out the stupidity of the Devils fans.

when the flyers dominate a period or game nobody says the other team didnt give any effort. the devils dominated the game for 50 out of 60 minutes. i doubt the flyers "werent giving any effort" after the first. devils were just better last night all around.

  11. Don't play cheap and just get thru this series. Come October, it's gonna be drago-creed on Neal. Asham normally doesn't play like that. Bylsma has completely lost control of his team. not something I ever expected to see

  12. To be honest, I still root for Richards & Carter. If LA were to make the Finals against anyone but the Flyers, I would be rooting for them to win the Cup.

That being said, I hope it's Philly vs LA & we win (and I get to go to a game). :D

same here andy. not so much carter because he needed to go, but mike is a red light player. always has been. i hope you get to go to a game.

  13. @Phillygrump

Yes Bryz did play better as the game went on. If he continued his 1st period game into the 2nd and 3rd we may have seen Bob in net already. Again, I'm not putting all the goals on Bryz. But he wasn't brought in to be average, which is all he's been. I'm hoping he's got a lot better hockey in front of him.

ive seen much "lesser" goalies steal games in the playoffs already. its why i didnt want to spend a fortune on a goalie. majority of nhl starting quality goalies can win you a cup with the right team if they're on. just dont have trash in net. this team was resilient as h ell last year too. fr iggin holtby has given the caps every opportunity to be up 2-0 in that series. best goalie in the playoffs thus far imo.

  14. Bryz's glove save was his ONLY inspiring save this series. Fleury had been making tons of those saves, more in game one though. It does seem like the Flyers need to set up the perfect play to burn Fleury, while *anything* might go in on Bryz.

Good thing the Flyers are blocking shots...

fleury couldve had both giroux goals and maybe jagr's. bryz shouldve had kennedy's and imo martin's. reality is there is a ton of offensive talent on both teams and not enough defensive talent to keep up with it. flyers just come in waves and pitt has 2 forwards who can control a shift their other guys just benefit from it.
