Hahaha Annie, nice. Coincidentally Andrea McCardle (Annie) sang the national anthem on occasion before Flyers games in the late 70's or early 80's, so you may be on to something there
@Poulin20 I bet nobody upstairs is updating ****** facebook while play is going on too! I'm in 107, lemme know if you and Adam want to get together for a pregame beer before a playoff game, PJ Whelahans is right behind us......
Yeccchh. If the Rags were playing North Korea, I'd be wearing a Kim Jon Il shirt...ok well not really, but my primal deep rooted hate goes back to the playoff wars of the 70s and 80s. I hate the team, the town, the as*hole fans, the logo, all of it.
No but I amused myself, that's all that really matters in my simple head....plus sometimes it's safer when nobody gets the joke but me, that couch is not comfortable!
We had the same discussion about the Flyers, when dropping to 6th would have meant getting Florida instead of a war with the Pens in round 1. I'll say they same thing here, play to win and let the chips fall where they may. Taking your foot off the gas for even a second, can get somebody hurt. Crank it up and go into the playoffs on a roll
@B21 Dude.....are you saying there is no merit to any of the comments publicly made about the Pens in the last week? Listen I know you gotta defend your team, and you're outnumbered on this board so it's difficult to concede anything. But you sound like you believe EVERYBODY that speaks ill of the Pens 100% wrong....that's where I think you might wanna check yourself. My youngest son gets away with more than his siblings, as the youngest he's mom's favorite although she denies it. I called him and my wife Sidney and Commissioner Bettman last night after a particularly egregious looking of the other way when the older kids would have gotten ripped for doing the same. I thought it was a good analogy. That's all I'm saying. Carry on....
No problem, glad my advancing age is of some use here! I think it's possible that Kate will someday be retired, but personally I don't think it will be anytime soon. For fans (and management) who remember that crackling tape of her being played before big games in the 70s, it still brings chills to see her up on the big screen. And if you can say anything about the organization, it's that they love their traditions. I will say that the practice of God Bless America being sung before EVERY playoff game needs to stop.
@ doom 88 Alas, Philly did once have it's own distinct cadence, now it's like all the rest. If you see old game film (pre-95 lockout) from Spectrum games you can hear the difference. Even now if they play an "organ" accompanyment it is in the old style, but that's rare. After the Flyers made the playoffs in '95 after 5 straight seasons out of it, a lot of new fans came on board.....the move to the new building also brought a big change in fan demographic, and the tradition was kinda lost.
Honestly, the Flyers-Lindros rift makes more sense than this. Bad blood boiled for years while he was still playing, and let's not forget he was wrong in handled a lot of things too. Not justifying the Flyers, just framing the comparison... But this.....is apparently just an owner being spiteful for a man standing by his friend. It's not right that either was erased and, in LaFontaine's case excommunicated
It's the "emotional" argument vs the "intellectual" argument. It's just human nature, hate something because of a previous bias and find a reason to back up the bias...but you're right, there are enough reasons to dislike the little prik without trying too hard!
