      Nylander Signs
      Toronto Maple Leafs
      WordsOfWisdom - Posted
I think (when it happens to Toronto) this may finally open the conversation about the NHL's current economic system and how it can be "tweaked" to allow rich teams to spend more money.  There has to be some angry NHL owners out there. They can't possibly be united on this issue.    It doesn't need to be anything radical. Just widen the GAP between the ceiling and the floor. If the NHL were a house, it would be built for Hobbits. Let's create some room so that teams can stop "bumping their head" on the low ceiling.    I know I know.... I'll zip it.

It's sad to say but the "window" is indeed closing rapidly on Toronto.  If they can't keep the current group together moving forward, then they won't be a legitimate contender. It's not enough to have Matthews and Marner under contract. They need everybody they have now and they (arguably) need to flip one of their forwards for defensive help to put them over the top.  They're still in the building phase in terms of winning a Cup and we're already looking at the possibility of the team being torn apart.    With two more teams in the NHL now (Las Vegas and Seattle), every NHL team gets weaker -- losing a player off their roster to each of the expansion teams. It's almost to the point now where the only way you can build a Stanley Cup winner is to luck out on entry level contracts to players who become superstars early (trapping them into long term, low paying contracts) and then luck your way into a few Cup wins before the contracts come due and you have to blow the whole thing up.    If every player gets paid what they're worth according to market value, then all 32 teams in the NHL will be completely even in strength and every season will come down to luck on who wins because top players will be scattered evenly across all NHL teams.

Well agree Chicago is going to have to rebuild at some point.  But Quenville I believe has seen his best days

Add chemistry to those options, but I think it's mostly a mix of talent, heart, chemistry and coaching at this point.

The Brass had to be wondering if this is talent, heart, coaching, or conditioning.  It is numbing.

      DUMBA 2018/2019
      Minnesota Wild

I firmly believe the biggest difference with Dumba comes at coverage on the blue line when he pinches in or goes in deep. Previous seasons he would 'go in' offensively and forwards (most of them) wouldn't drop back and cover the blue line. When Spurgeon or Suter go in deep (((someone))) drops back and covers their blue line. With Dumba they always hung him out to dry.   Late last year, Granlund started to drop back and cover his line, but he was about the only one. This year other players started dropping back. (About damn time!) Nino did too if the line he was on was out there. But it's not like Nino is all that good sealing off the blue line, but he did make attempts.   I'm not saying in previous years Dumba wasn't partially to blame if he went in deep and (got side-tracked) stayed deep for too long, but his competitiveness IMO really hasn't changed as much as others awareness finally catching on. Gee, it only took about 4 seasons for either the coaching staff or players like Koivu to recognize (and develop) some type of functional cycle to include his quick slapshot as an advantage to their team play. I say Koivu because earlier this year he made a significant transition to draw back to the blue line to cover and a lot of others have caught on. For a couple years he's covered well for Spurgeon... Dropping back and it's been pretty successful. This year it's spread to Koivu, Coyle, Parise (occasionally), Ek, Fehr...

I agree Provy had a chance to win it but the goalie made a nice save then the Flames go down and score the winner. Same old story can't protect a lead, time for a coaching change. Fletcher has to figure out who he considers his core group and then start getting rid of the rest. It's going to be a long season! The Flyers are playing like Hakstol coaches the team, laid back and clueless!
