  1. The more i think about this, the more i like the idea of resigning carle and finding the lower profile quality guy, that guy could even be a top 4 talent, but needs to be established as such and not a project. with regard to folks wanting to trade schenn, keep in mind Giroux has a concussion and was hit in the same part of the head as Crosby was,so i don't use any of our young centermen as trade chips, i also don't think i trade danny briere since the young centermen need a place to live. i'd be okay with rolling with these young guys; seeing what gustavsson brings to the table with regular NHL minutes and shuffle the d deck in the off season using only the comcast money asset
  2. I'm in the Timmonen and/or Briere camp. this team is young and needs its leader with them... what happens with his cap hit and contract if pronger retires ? does it come off the books ? can he be bought out ? does he have to sell cokes on game nights ? how's that work ?
  3. to me the answer is no, how does giving up a guy giving you 20-25 a night entering in his prime make the the team better ? i don't think any of the 3 rookies are ready to step into top 4 minutes putting carle into the mix gives you zero sum gain imo. the preds need scoring we need defense it seems like we'd make natural trading partners... what about i don't like saying it danny b and jvr ?
  4. @AlaskaFlyerFan 30 pims, wow that's much lower than i'd have expected and not where that number was headed early in the year. i'm pretty sure the line he's on isn't hurting him with regard to not taking those lazy stick penalties, G and Jagr as so strong on the puck that once they gain possession they're attacking; not chasing / reaching while a guy is blowing past them after a turnover on a dump in...and when that does happen those guys move their feet to get back, and that kind of stuff rubs off.
  5. the season is a long grind, we've been getting some good breaks to go with our hard work. there will be times when those breaks aren't as good but the effort will be there and we need to remember this nice streak before climbing the walt whitman when a little skid comes.
  6. Mono Kid is the real deal... he did not look out of place at all. the ceiling on him is pretty damn high. he's got great vision and has a very high hockey iQ. . HIs line was strong and not in spite of him.
  7. it's pretty clear to me that the team is getting some good bounces the last couple of nights. a couple of soft goals last night from voukon. there were long stretches of play in the 3rd period last night where the Flyers couldn't clear the D-zone, those time coincided with bourdon's presence. guys were gassed,14 was just standing still in the slot at one point, trying to catch his breath, still the caps couldn't get any shots through, their shots hit sticks and shin pads... so i'm good with the energy and the speed of the line up . i'm also pretty sure that there will be games where some of these "breaks" go the other way. i'm a believer of making your own luck though, so if these guys keep hustling, the bounces will be more for than against the rest of the way. I gotta say i like this team.
  8. @brelic http://news.harvard....st-concussions/ so when Giroux comes back I hope he's wearing the M11 from cascade sports... endorsement deal or no. this helmet seems to be designed with hockey players in mind , the company and program has mark messier as its hockey adviser. the NHL would be wise to fund some serious research regarding head injuries and their prevention.

  10. Aren't there helmets and mouthpieces designed to lessen the impact of a shot to the head ? I think I remember Lindros of all people using the mouth piece when his career was winding down here. i know there are football helmets with extra padding inside that nearly everyone wears, i would think at this point i wouldn't care what it looked like so long as it helped keep my brains from sloshing around in my skull like a martini. i think hockey helmets will be my lunchtime useless research project.
  11. Jimmy "the Groin" McCrossin strikes again !
  12. there's another coach notch on the richards belt of malcontent.
  13. @Leach27 I thought i read that Hartnell was having some kind of nerve problem that was causing him to have numbness on his left side over the summer / beginnig of camp.so that alone may have prevented him from being dealt or asked to waive the ntc... he wouldn't have passed a physical. maybe that's what homer knew. @quigly46 Giroux was going to break out with carter and richards playing somewhere else regardless of who was on his line; unless you saddled him with shelley and nodl.
  14. @Flyguys03 the AHL curve where he was averaging almost 2 pts a game. that curve.
  15. you know i'm starting to feel a kinship to the average Leaf fan, I am a Baltimore Orioles baseball fan, why I remember the halcyon days of needing 95+ wins to finish ahead of the O's , always being in the hunt for the pennant, and world championship, of teams following the Oriole way for building an organization... none of the past glory can overcome the current stink on my beloved team. Leafs fans I can relate.
  16. http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/flyers/20111211_Inside_the_Flyers___Flyers_overcoming_adversity.html there's a link to noted, muckraker Sam Carchidi's latest blog or whatever he writes. about 3/4 of the way down he sings the praises of one Scott Hartnell. I have always been a fan of Hartnell's personality, i like that he's a good bloke in the room, and has fun with being a pro athlete. the fact that his twitter feed is #Hartnelldown is good insight as to why he's a good guy to have on your team even when he's not playing well. he scraps, works hard if not always smart; if he would take 1/3 less penalties (eliminate the stupid ones) we'd have nothing to complain about other than his haircut, which he would probably roll with. good to see him contributing at such a high level
  17. so we won't see him until the playoffs then, provided we make it.
  18. I've been sort of ragging on these guys calling them the pu-pu platter but it is not warranted. they've played well, i think bourdon has been quite good actually, i don't know if marshall with continue to be with the big club once some else gets healthy, (gustavsson or lilja,) but he hasn't been any worse than alberts was a couple of years ago, but he hasn't been the physical presence i thought he'd be...and what ever happened to bartulis ? i thought he would be competing for a spot with the big club out of camp, but he's no where, is he still a flyer ?
  19. well i just voted for G so that guarantees he won't be a starter...
  20. @doom88 he did what was needed to win in what was the arguably the biggest game of the season. every goalie lets in the occasional soft goal, and every goalie gets beat on great shots. in that pen's game he played against them the way MAF plays against us, he battled , he made the key save at the big moment. and that is something that the unholy trinity from last year didn't do down the stretch. canoli is right it won't kill us to throw the guy a friggin' bone when he deserves one and he deserved on thursday.
  21. I must agree with those who want to wait and see with regard to Pronger. i hate his contract but there's no denying he's effective on the ice. I too am of the opinion that the Flyers saying he's "out indefinitely" is a signal to him to not try to rush back and cover for him from the press. as for passing the baseline concussion test, he may have a coup contrecoup type head injury from his head snapping back after the stick caught him in the eye, these type of injuries can be fatal and sometimes the symptoms are delayed, when did they administer the test for concussion ? could also be that he has some kind of staphylococcus infection that hasn't been resolved. i must say i like that the nhl is taking these head injuries seriously. and let's not trade schenn until we actually see what we've got; unless the offer is too good to refuse, lumping him in with a couple of guys to get weber (1 guy ) doesn't sound like a too good to be true deal.
  22. they were whacking at each other off the face off that started the play, malkin caught G on the hand so G responded with a couple of hacks at malkin's skates and a little shoulder to shoulder hit skating down the ice, they were jawing the whole time too, if 71 is going to take a swing like that with his mitts he should be able to drop them and settle the dispute like a man. that was bs
  23. i thought he played exacty the way we want him to tonight, he battled down low, he was moving very well side to side, he was very good tonight , i hate the pens but they do bring a lot of pressure and shots, he held up his end tonight. if he's rounding into form, then good.
  24. holy smokes what a cheap shot, dirty douche nozzle. i cannot stand to look at that guy, i hate the way he plays , i would not want him on my team . i would love to see him actually drop the gloves with giroux instead of that crap he pulled on the way to the bench. doing pittsburgh fans everywhere proud... d!ck thanks for viewing.
