  1. @sekke85 Are you talking about Gerbe or Read ? I can see your point to a point with regard to bourdon's hit on gerbe, nate did turn away from the contact and left himself defenseless which wasn't smart, and bourdon answered for the hit. that was the by product of a physical hockey play. the shot on Read was not a by product of physical play, it was a cheap shot plain and simple I'm fine with playing the game physically, taking the body , even some of the nasty after the whistle face washes and other activities are okay by me if a punk has it coming... but in my view Leinio is the guy in need of the face wash cause that hit was the act of a punk.
  2. @aziz well you're all "mr sunshine and puppies " today... thanks good thing there aren't any bridges near by to jump from.
  3. @FlyersFan4Life Leino caught him with the bony part of his elbow as they were skating in opposite directions near the blue line they were going pretty fast and Leino gave him a Steckel right in the mush. it was a stupid play to make, far more stupid imo than bourdin's hit on gerbe. read was dazed i'm not sure where on his face he got hit but he returned to the game and played well.
  4. @medeaglesfan like the comparison. if it works out that way i think we'll all be happy. i think G is a little slicker than Sakic was but does not have Joe's shot. G competes like pitbull the way forsberg did. my replica has #28 i think i'll be solid for a couple of years....
  5. @wcflyer jagr is excited about this team, he's not "hey i'll collect my 3.3 and go home to my smoking hot girlfriend". that says to me we may be on to something here, these young guys play with speed and smarts . they act like they enjoy playing hockey and being around each other. it is a nice group to watch play. heck i think even pierre mcguire likes the make up of this team. "claude giroux is a super star in this league. " pierre mcguire he said that about 10 times last night, he's right he sees the ice so well, competes for the puck so hard, goes into the corner vs 3 guys and comes out with the puck , able to make a play, wow.
  6. tough way to start in the league for sure, first 2 weeks and you get suspended for 2 games...he'll have to be careful. agreed that it was stupid to follow through on that hit, when you can read a guy's name you probably should try to let up ... that said the pu-pu platter of rookie d-men looked pretty good last night, they looked better than christian erhoff that's for sure, wow was he brutal.
  7. Danny didn't play much tonight, whatever is bothering him must have been aggravated after the 1st period, plus the high stick in the mush probably didn't feel too nice either.
  8. he looked pretty pedestrian tonight. he made some nice saves but wasn't tested after the first until buffalo used 6 skaters in an attempt to tie the game. he got beat on a nice shot off of a nice pass on the equalizer. i am glad though that Lavy stayed with him i hope he starts him tomorrow too... no more coddling this guy he's gotta fight through these "lapses" and bad bounces, the great ones do that, even when they're going bad or having a rough patch in the game, they battle and fight and give their guys a chance to even things up. i want to see that from him before i start posting a buy out bryzgalov every week for the next 9 years.
  9. @doom88 that's just smart roster management in imo. the guy was out for 10 months then takes a wicked shot to his knee and torques the planted one while doing it. there is no way i send crosby on this trip if he's not 100%. two physical teams on the road. you must protect the investment, i wouldn't care if his rep takes another hit for it either, he's the best player in the world when healthy, if i'm managing that roster i try my best to keep him that way and reap the benefits for years rather than the potential 4 points in december.
  10. @aziz you make a good point regarding laviolette and his puck possession scheme being more focused on offense. with the prolonged absence of pronger; now would be a good time for one of these guys to step in to a leadership / responsibility shouldering position. so i reckon we'll see what they've got.
  11. @OH1FlyersFan i'm on record in this thread saying i'd dump just about any of the old guys for the right package, however right now after hearing that the bourdin and marshall pu-pu platter didn't stink the joint up on the west coast, i'm feeling like there's something to letting these young guys play. (i've said that somewhere too) . what i think people are rightly pointing out is none of the guys not named timmonen and pronger are future #1s they are maybe #2's, i'm looking at you Coburn, but there isn't a lead dog back on the blue line in this bunch. 20 can't be relied upon because of his luck with injuries and timmonen shouldn't be playing 28 minutes a night december through may and be expected to play to his usual excellent level,he's going to wear down. so i'm all for creative ideas to bring a weber, suter or some other guy in his prime to be the lead dog if that can be done without mortgaging the future then great !
  12. i agree and disagree, the unholy trinity we had in net last year had a penchant for letting in the soul crushing goals almost on cue. big moment in the game why i think i'll lose concentration and let the 50' snapper from the blue line in on the AHL side... the goaltending was a problem , but you are correct in that it wasn't the only problem. the coach needed to shoulder some blame, as did a couple of guys playing in the western conference this year.
  13. @radoran I don't mean to sound like a Briere hater, because that's not the case, you're absolutely correct that of the big 3 centers the year we signed him he's been the best. his cap number is big and he's little, i hope he can play to his high level for the duration of the deal, i fear his tenure here may be sullied by his making 6.3 million and playing 35 games with 28 pts in his last year due to injury, (the chronic ones that come with age) that's all i'm saying.
  14. I was watching the pens play the other night, i guess against the rangers, and MAF has about 10 minutes in the 2nd where he was atrocious, and subsequently opened a tight game up in the rags favor. however, he was solid in the 3rd fought back made a couple of big saves that kept his team in the game , he kept plugging away and fighting to make saves... i have not seen this from bryzgalov yet. is it because a) he doesn't do it or B) lavy has a hair trigger hook with his keepers or c) that's why MAF was #1 overall ? if we had MAF on Bryzgalov's deal i'd be good with it.
  15. Pronger: I've never felt this way before I can't help it, every time i see that topic title i think ... what, he's gay for crosby now ? I hope we can buy someone out with the new cba, him briere, bryzgalov, someone....there are some boat anchor contrats on this roster.
  16. i wonder if the separated shoulders have have put the kiabosh on strength training at that time and he's not gotten back to any sort of routine, the gym was always better for me when it was just part of the day;, if you can't do it, or have to have special supervision, or whatever it makes it easy to skip.
  17. @Mad Dog he's not a fitness freak yet either, if he were in the gym all the time, even the off season , he might have a better shot at staying healthy, i don't think he's put it together yet or if he has; he hasn't been healthy enough or interested to start seriously taking care of himself.
  18. http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?p=40304227 the hit isn't vicious, but he took another big shot to his shoulder, i think he's going to have this shoulder injury the rest of his career , and while i liked him when he was here, the flyers may have dodged a bullet by trading him. i think his days of "playing larger than his frame" are numbered if not over..
  19. emery was solid before he got that degenerative bone thing... that's the kind of sh!t no one can foresee. emery was a gamble that didn't work out, but it's not like he got here and stunk the joint up . he was unlucky
  20. and in reality he wasn't, he's been to the playoffs every year but that first one, has played in the ecf and cup finals... he's been right there , a break here or there and his name is on the cup, winning the damn thing isn't easy and the flyers have had their chances in kimo's time here. so in that regard homer did him solid, i like 44 and would rather see him stay in philly and retire a champion, but i'd move him if it means acquiring a cornerstone guy in some combination in return.
  21. @RonJeremy we're good at forward... why make that deal ? we need help on the blue line, if you're talking about dealing our best prospect, it had better be to address an area of weakness not to bring in a guy we think is cool. i say good luck to anahiem and mr ryan.
  22. @Vanflyer well regarding timmonen, my thinking goes like this, he's good so he'll bring quality back, he's expensive so he'll clear some cap space, sign the young guy you trade for 44 to a reasonable young guy deal, and take the cap space and make a run at one of the top fa's on the market, everyone likes that suter who's going to be too expensive for nashville, it also means i'm willing to sacrifice this year for next...
  23. @AlaskaFlyerFan I don't have a link, with hands like nodl's i don't think he scores a whole lot ! hi yo ! my post was actually a joke because bakinewama's signature quotes aziz saying nodl will score more goals than jagr, so i was simpling trying to fuel that debate some more
  24. yeah, but have you seen Nodl's girl... damn !
  25. not much of a stretch to say that after 4 games... that's some low hanging fruit there md.
