  1. Matthews isn't a Connor McDavid, but he's light years better than a Claude Giroux in that same capacity. Matthews, Konecny, Farabee, Tippett would be a good forward group to start with and then you have Old Forester, Gauthier, and whoever the 7 pick is this draft as a new core. That group without Matthews is still needing that "next level" player to be the consistent 35-40 (40+) goal scorer. to be clear, they don't need to go after Matthews right now, although they could given the no-trade window. But what I hope we will see in a new leadership philosophy the abandonment of the "make the playoffs and anything can happen" mantra. Having a 1 in 20 shot doesn't mean you will win one in 20 times. It means you lose 95% of the time each time you try.
  2. Hey, with any luck he could pull a Berglund and forget to submit his no trade list on time. I'm gonna think that the team sharing a locker room in the hockey barn is gonna be on that list.
  3. Allow me to introduce Hayes' 12-team no-trade list. Yes, on top of 7 years and over $49M, Fletch also threw in a limited NTC because... Fletch.
  4. You mean when they just up and fired a guy on the spur of the moment, not intending to, in the middle of the season, with no plan to replace him? You're thinking that's a hallmark of this organization, why? Because the guy that process hired went and did the exact same damn thing with the hand-picked coach he hired? An actual plus side of the Danny Jones approach is that by all accounts none of the Senior Hockey Advisors who advised Dave Scott so assiduously, have had anything to do with selecting the leadership group that's in place now. That doesn't mean they're good hires. It just increases the odds significantly...
  5. Do you retain $2.5M of Ristolainen for four years or do this? I think they could actually get something of value in return for retaining, but a buyout isn't the onerous option I might have thought it was
  6. Dude didn't even sign Kaprizov. Guerin did. Fletcher is the only GM to be released with a "please compete" clause. His tenure in Minny had f-all to do with the hiring of the son of a friend of Bob Clarke.
  7. Right, I think the "terrible" aspect of him is where he's being asked/expected to play. Does he have "Nick Seeler" value at $755K for a bottom pair guy who can play low minutes and have some upside? Sure. He's just not that guy.
  8. TDA will be gone by attrition before the team is anywhere near competition. If they can get anything for him while retaining salary next season, it's a bonus. Spoiler: they're not getting a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th for him because no team has yet hired Chuck Fletcher. Ristolainen has four years on his $5.1M per deal. IMO, that's a bigger challenge than Hextall moving VLC. Spoiler: they're not getting a 1st, 2 2nds, and a 7th for him because no team has yet hired Chuck Fletcher. I'm all for pruning dead wood, but the garden is in such a state of disrepair that all avenues need to be addressed. Don't walk away from opportunity just because they're not going in the "right order".
  9. And had a major problem with being scratched. No, really. The Flyers spent seven draft picks and two players to acquire two of the worst defensemen in the league. As an "upgrade."
  10. Them, plus the 1st, 3 2nds, 2 3rds, 4th, and 7th it took to turn Ghost and Hagg into Risto and TDA. Honestly one of the most egregious use of assets ever in the history of organized sport.
  11. 1995 called. The Stars have a Championship and at least two Finals appearances (pending) since the Dallas Football Team last won much of anything. The DFT are like the Maple Leafs of the NFL.
  12. I remember the sense of relief when they elevated Hextall. I'm a little more circumspect this time around. Trust - but verify. #hockeyrelated
  13. Oh, I'm sure that the Stars would prefer to be the only team in Texas. It's just not reasonable to assume it. This isn't Hamilton 45 minutes from Tronno and an hour from Buffalo, Houston is 3.5 hours away.
  14. How's that working for Carey Price in Montreal? One Finals appearance? Five first round exits. Five missed playoffs. Fourteen years. Well, I didn't mention Hart in my quoted post, but I've been saying Matthews+ for Hart or walk away. Again maximize value and you don't have to make the deal. You have the asset people want and if they won't pay for it, don't give it to them.
  15. That teams who need a goalie should be seriously looking at the assets they want to deploy to acquire one. Anyone with a goalie to deal should be looking to maximize return from teams that are over a barrel.
  16. Florida has two teams. Houston is 3.5 hours away from Dallas. There are three basketball teams in that radius of Dallas. There are four teams within that radius of Philadelphia. East Coast too close? Buffalo and Columbus are within 3.5 hours of Pittsburgh. Dallas has a larger metro population than the three of them - combined. I'm pretty sure your Western Conference Finalists can handle the competition.
  17. Watch, Danny will pull some bull crap move and say there was no interest. Same ol' same ol'...
  18. I don't think they will (can) do anything during the playoffs, but between the Cup and the draft there's all sort of opportunity. That's where they can get a 6th for the negotiating rights to JVR.
  19. I'll just add in a IIRC because I might not and don't particularly care to litigate it. Point is largely that Jonsey's been on the payroll since he... Wasn't on the payroll. I'll judge by actions going forward not what might have been said in the past.
