  1. Yes it is all joking and that is why this is all said in fun.  And yes it will be fun for a while. And you should enjoy it for awhile....we dish it out pretty good...we should be able to take it.  Like everything else...it will eventually pass.  Personally, I can careless as I don't take it personally.  Enjoy the fun.

it's all in fun bud.  Honestly, if Giroux came out tomorrow and said he's homosexual it really woulldn't change anything BUT the Crosby jokes.  Funny thing would be if they both did, and we learned they've been in a relationship for three years.   LOL

  2.  and from opposing fans.....lol. It kinda cracked me up, this whole thing. I was waiting for our posters to come up with some great one liners and I was certainly not disappointing. Love the fact the Downie signing deflated the whole Pens crowd before they could really enjoy it...great timing Downs!!....now...we will kick your ass!!!

I'm sorry... but the Downie signing really has no dog in this race.  After all the unnecessary Crosby is gay type stuff FLyers fans have made up and thrown around as an insult all these years, this is just irony in the extreme.  What will be interesting is the impact it has in the Flyers locker room.  Will it be nothing?  Or will some homophobe in the room be watching out of the corner of his eye and see something he doesn't like?  Will there become a division over his sexuality?  I'm thinking this will be funny.   LOL  I'll cherish this day for a long time.

Now the Crosby is gay jokes have an instant reBUTTal.   LOL

  3. Hmm.. I see the name Regis is sticking...As far as Roo goes...at least he has an excuse...Alcohol! He had no idea what he was doing....... So what is Crosby/Bettman/Regis escuse. ;)

The Crosby, Bettman and Regis comments are all spiteful joking and not based on anything but wishful thinking.  Apparently, Giroux's actions were wishful thinking as well, but factual.   LOL  Claudia the Arse Grabber Giroux... wow... I'm really going to enjoy this for quite some time.

  4. Me thinks you want it to take away from G. ;)  Worst case scenario...Downie is awful, spends half the season as a healthy scratch and goes away after one year.  Best case...he stays out of trouble, sparks the 3rd line, maybe scores a few goals and is a nice part of a team that makes a deep Cup run...and goes away after one year.

Giroux will be an arse grabber - forever.  It's not like this is some photobomb he got caught up in. He was arrested for it (not as in serious crime arrested but ROTFLMFAO arrested).  Even spent the night in the slammer. For repeatedly grabbing a man's arse.

I expect the Crosby/Bettman/Regis love fest to die down now if not go away altogether - because the Pens fans have ammo that kicks that nonsense in the butt (pun intended).

    @jammer2

But charges were not laid, as stated by the police in Canada.  Apparently, Giroux wasn't either   ;)

  5. All I can say is, Lemieux better keep his mouth shut forever on dirty players.

Depends entirely on whether or not they put up with his crap.  Cooke got shipped out despite his obvious value to the team.  Now Neal got shipped out as well, same story.  If Downie comes on and acts like a tool, and they allow it, then you have a point.  Until then, Lemieux gets props for NOT being a hypocrite.

  6. I don't like the guy. Is there potential in him? Sure. Do I wish someone else were experimenting with him? Yes. As TFG says he has an upside. But can it be tapped without the issues? If nothing else we got the BS attitude off the second line (Neal) and put it on the fourth.

  7. @radoran

I just don't see it as being a big deal. Honestly, a good numbers guy and attention to detail minimizes the impact so much it's a non-factor in my eyes. Is extra work created? Sure. But that's why the GM's and their advisors make the big money.

I full understand what you're saying. I just don't think it's that difficult to work around. Just a difference if opinion.

  8. Yay Glass is gone!! Hoooorayyyyyy!!

    Engelland gets overpaid.

Orpik gets WAY overpaid... Good Lord!! Welcome to the land of misfit toys!

Niskanen making 5.75 mill per year for SEVEN years? I'll laugh my butt off if he was a one season wonder. Going to the land if misfit toys as well.

Erhoff should make up for his departure and for 1.75 less and 6 years shorter term.

  9. I'm mainly posting it for other people in the thread in case they weren't sure. Because I didn't have the specifics down pat.

And my primary point is "it isn't great" and it's much different than

doesn't impact your salary cap one bit.

It really doesn't. Rad I think it's a stupid contract and laugh at Holmgren for it as much as anyone. I'm a Pens fan... I love that it bit the Flyers. But the truth of it is when the season starts, he doesn't hurt you. Not one bit as far as the cap is concerned. It's not like he counts day 1 and THEN you can shop for a replacement. You can already have that replacement all off season.

The only real penalty the Flyers are seeing is they have to pay him. It has cost them millions to sign that contract.

  10. @radoran

Last season we had this same discussion in a thread. I pasted the exact wording from the CBA there that made it clear Pronger doesn't hurt you at the end of training camp/start of season. Technically he's LTIR that last day if camp so no restriction going into the season. It's here if you'd like to try to find it. But you can also find it in the CBA like I did if you're willing to do the search.

Which is why I said the only true penalty is his salary year in year out.

  11. Well, we are seeing rightnow where Pronger's salary does impact the cap - because while there is the 10% offseason exemption, and of that $6.9M exemption, Pronger's contract eats up $4.9M of it - 71% of the entire exemption. Then you add in prorated two ways and also the need to have tagging space for RFAs.

And, again, at the start of the season, it is likely that a player or players will need to be sent down for the first game because Pronger can't officially go on LTIR until after the first day of the season. Yes, on the team's Day One, they need to have an extra projected $4.9M of cap space available on top of what they already sign and make some moves (Schenn back to Adirondack for the day? I don't even know his waiver eligibility).

Partly as a result, they will likely have to also ditch at least one $4.5M range contract (VLC or Umburglar, for example) - and the return will likely be even less favorable because on top of needing to get rid of the guys, teams know the Flyers are desperate for cap space.

You think that $4.9M looks a little more important now?

Actually he goes LTIR before the season starts so no impact there. Just the off season applies.

  12. From what I read in several reports, it was after Spezza turned down the offer that Spalling and Hornquist were sent to Pittsburgh instead. Not saying Spezza still might not wind up in Nashville but it would not be the deal that was on the table, those pieces are now long gone.

Yeah that didn't really come out till after I'd made that comment. Lol.
