  1. Oh how times have changed remember how Miller and the boys used to run us out of the building just after the lockout??? I was living in Buffalo at the time and it was HORRIBLE (they hate the Flyers in Buff as much as Eagle fans hate the cowboys)
  2. I can vouch for the team that they treat their STHs like gold. I am up in the nosebleed seats and they treat me like a king. I can only imagine the secret benefits the premium STHs get (I know 1 year the club box holders get to go bowling with the players). Some other early bird benefits that I have taken advantage of are, Attending a post game press conference with Lavy, Complete tour of the arena including locker rooms broadcast booth and some of Ed Sniders secret rooms, Skate on the Flyers ice, Meet the team early access meet and greet with players, "Chalk Talk" with Lavy at the Flyers skate zone, and the early Bird BBQ which this year was at Citizens Bank Park where they served unlimted hot dogs, hamburgers, beans potato salad and soft drinks. All STHs get access to the annual townhall meeting, a Christmas gift from the team, and 3 season ticket holder appreciation games per year and of course the big one is playoff access at STH discounted prices, which was really nice during the run to the Finals in 2010. If you are a little short on the dough they let you pay over 9 months interest free and the playoffs you can "pay as they play" which means you only get charged as they advance. Highly recomend pulling the trigger, the benefits have been outstanding!
  3. They used to randomly select STHs but I think now it is an "eary bird" benefit if you renew your ST before a certain date (yesterday was the deadline for next year). Currently we are allowed to chose 1 benefit per year (used to be 2). I asked the OP to confirm that this was the case.
  4. Was that an early bird benefit that you chose as an STH?
  5. To the Flyers, Nicklas Grossman, We Welcome You! (at least until you turn the puck over in our zone and the puck ends up in our net)
  6. Agreed...Also it it important to note that both picks were ones we got from trades...Flyers still have their own picks for now.
  7. I agree every year you dont win is a failed season for sure. But you can still have some pretty awesome highlights in a non-cup run.
  8. Agree with the Jeff Carter book for sure! 2nd Book should read 1988- Present as 1988 seemed to be when the real dropoff began. In 85 Pelle won the Veznia and in 87 Hexy won it as well as the Conn Smythe
  9. There I fixed it for you : 35 Years of Flyers Stanley Cup Winning Highlights (We have had plenty of huge moments and major highlights in the playoffs in the past 35 years it is just that winning the cup wasnt one of them)
  10. How to beat the Rangers in 2011-2012 By the Philadelphia Flyers Games I played in during the 2011-2012 sesason By Chris Pronger with a forward by Mikhail Grabovski
  11. Lol I see you beat me to the punch on that line. When it comes to Mike Ricci I do get weepy about 2 things. 1 is the fact that we drafted him ahead of Jagr. 2 is the fact that Ricci is a SC champion and Lindros is not.
  12. Oh whoops I thought this thread was about mike Ricci when I read it and I was saying to myself "Ricci trade? Wasnt that for Lindros?"
  13. I think that much of the frustration (at least it it on my part) right is stemming from the fact that the stinking Rags are owning us and are the surprise success story of the year. Plus Bryz is a big flop so far.... We started out really well unexpectedly and now are playing more like the team we expected. The Rags are now Bona Fide Stanley Cup contenders while are having to deal with the reality of a young growing team which can't seem to beat good teams down the stretch. Having to watch the DISGUSTING Pens, Bruins, and Devils win the SC thelast few years has been super tough to take. Now if the Rags win it will be another punch in the gut. Hence the sarcasm in this thread.
  14. "If "ifs" and "buts" were candy and nuts, we'd all have had a great Playoffs.
  15. The problem is that this is Lavy's style and he is not going to change it. Just like Hitch's,Tort's, and Lemaire's style is the defensive smothering and they arent going to change it. Homer knew this when he hired Lavy and probably agreed with this style as this is the way the league is trying to direct teams. (You saw how well the Hitch style worked immediately post lockout). Since Homer hired this guy it is incumbent upon him to get players that work in this style I.E. responsible defensemen. He probably figured we were good with Pronger, Mez, and O'Donnell (last year) and Coby, he has Carle around for some puck moving offense and has to plug holes with the rest. Odie didnt pan out and Coburn has regressed, Pronger is out and Carle is not there to defend. MAB and Gus are still works in progress. He also thought that Bryz would clean up any mess left by the D. He didn't anticipate that Bryz was a mess himself (who did??). I don't blame Lavy. If anything it is somewhat Homers fault as this is what he wrought. Although I dont totally blame him either as things havent panned out the way he planned. He doesnt have a crystal ball and took some calculated risks, many of which have been great some not so great (BRYZ). We havent had much luck. Meanwhile look at the Rags, Lunkhead never played this well in goal before and the rest of those punks never played this well under Tort's system before. Somehow they have pulled it together, but before this year it wasnt all roses for them either. If the Flyers were smart they would use this year as what they originally planned, a rebuilding year. They have a nice young and affordable offensive core who play with heart, they need to address defense in the off season and see how Bryz does the rest of the year and into next year. Maybe he will get his crap together after one season under his belt and the off season. I think it would be a major mistake at this time to "go for it" this year as we just arent there yet but have a ton to build on. Lavy's system should work in the "new" NHL and they need to help him make it work.
  16. It just goes to show you that these stars and athletes are not the larger than life figures the media makes them out to be. They are just people like you and me who happen to be very talented in a highly publicized area of our society. As we know that money cannot buy you happyness it is easy to forget that their lives are not all a bed of roses. The pressure is immense on them and with the 24/7 media now a days we get to see how it affects them. The travel is a huge burden on them and their famlies too. As a side hobby I am a line umpire (linesman) for pro-tennis events including grand slams and I get to see a lot of behind the scenes stuff. It actually makes me glad I am not a pro athlete.
  17. Cant say I would be interested in watching unless the Leafs magically get better next year. Truthfully I have already grown tired of this gimmick.
  18. Yeah that Claude Lemiuex goal on Hexy is the epitome of the problem that we are discussing in this thread. If there was an entry about our goalie problems in the Flyers encyclopedia that goal very well could be the picture they use as that was a killer and series ender (even though that win didnt clinch it for the Devils). Although the Leigton Game 6 goal is a good candidate for this honor as well with the Leaf OT series winner vs Beezer. (So many choices unfortunately)
  19. Thats true about Hexy. People tend to forget that after the first year he was never exactly the same. He had quite his share of backbreakers in both tours of duty with us. His attitude and heart endeared himself to us and tended to cover up a lot of the bad stuff.
  20. In in 84-85 we still had Pelle. 85-86 is when we lost him and in 86-87 is when Hexy came into the picture. Od course we also went to the finals that year too.
