AMMOnation Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 Posted a while back if the new CBA was any different from the old CBA. Where if you bought out a player, he was not permitted to re-sign with that team for a full calendar year.So if the Flyers still want Danny Briere as a 3rd line center. But don't want his huge cap hit... Buy him out, let him sign with "another team of his choice". Gets traded back to the Flyers for a bag of pucks. The league of General Managers is after all a secret society of friends. Is this possible for GMs to do others favors?ALA Tim Thomas getting traded to the Bruins for cap relief. Quote
murraycraven Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 This is a nice thought and all but IMO pure fantasy. Teams are not going to be lining up to do each other solids for the sake of being GM buddies. Remember, Homer went against the unwritten rule of offer sheeting Weber all while being buddies with the Preds GM. So, i dont see a bunch of people lining up to help Homer... not happening. Quote

Not saying lets bring back Briere either. Maybe for the playoffs. If it did happen, it'd be outer conference trade.Whether the commissioner approves it is another story... Not sure I've seen Bettman block trades recently, more of a baseball thing. Edited May 23, 2013 by AMMOnation Quote
Bertmega Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 Wait, help me wrap my head around this logic. Danny Briere buyout from CapGeek.com2013-14: $4,333,3332014-15: $5,333,3332015-16: $833,3332016-17: $833,333Then expect that he actually wants to come back to Philly and expect that he wants to make far less then another team may offer him. Cut the cord bro, his skill set is behind him, I mean like WAYYYYYY behind him. Quote
murraycraven Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 Bert... agree. I dont see the logic in this but that is just my opinion. I dont see teams trying to help each other out to circumvent the new cba Quote
Jmdodgesrt4 Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 Bert. I don't think those numbers are correct. He is only due 5 mil all together for the contract. It will for years of payment but only at 5mil total. Maybe a mil a year. Quote

doom88 Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 I would rather see the top three centers go as follows: Giroux, Schenn, Couturier. Briere adds nothing on ice anymore. He was helpful in the past, but that is gone and the young guys need his TOI to further their development. 2 Quote
Bertmega Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 @Jmdodgesrt4Those numbers did seem a little high, but they came from Capgeek, so I assumed that they were correct. Quote
