Wellwood Question

I'm reading that the team has to carry him on the Flyers Roster because you can't demote an injured player.

I don't understand how that works if the player was inured playing in the minors.

He got hurt in the A. He's an AHL player. How's keeping him on that roster a demotion?

All NHL contracts (1- and 2-way) are "on the roster" (and cap in some form or another) during the offseason.

Flyers need to waive guys off that roster to assign to the AHL.

Upshot: Wellwood is a "Flyer" now and has to remain a "Flyer" until he is well enough to play.
