yave1964 Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Jaroslav Halak was having a fine season in St. Louis, with a 24-9-3 record and a 2.23 goals against but the Blues felt they were better off going with Ryan Miller as the team is set for a Stanley Cup run. They dealt Halak to the Sabres who after having his rights for about 12 seconds dealt him to the Capitals along with a third round pick for Michael Nuevirth. Halak has steadied the weakest area of the Capitals team by going 4-2-1 with a 2.13 goals against and a .935 save percentage. Halak has always been a solid netminder, first he was run out of Montreal when they chose Carey Price over him, then forced to split time with Brian Elliott in St. Louis. Now in Washington (for now) he continues to prove to be an NHL quality goalie, but Grubuaer and Holtby will likely force him out within a year or so. He reminds me more and more of Gilles Meloche and Rogie Vachon, quality goalies who bounce around organization to organization, teams need a goalie so they get him until someone better comes along and they move him out. My opinion is the Capitals with too many games played will fall just short of the playoffs but if they do manage to sneak in it will be simply because of Halak. Quote
radoran Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Caps have their fate in their hands. 79 points - one out of the playoffs - with a game in hand on Tronno. They have the chance to take control. Halak's 2.13/.935 is a key to that effort. Certainly moreso than Holtby's 2.95/.912. Quote
