Teams that still need to dump salary before next week

I know over the Summer there was talk of several teams being over the cap. Once the Flyers LTIR Pronger, Kimmo and Ryan White they will be fine. Anybody know about the others?

Are the Hawks and Bruins still over? Do they have people to put on LTIR?

That is the front page of the site...right away, you can see, in order, Philly, Boston, Tampa Bay, Chicago are all over the cap as of now.

Right behind them, you have LA and Pitts with LESS than $300K space left on the cap (I imagine they may want to increase that), then Toronto with less than $500K, and the Rangers with just over $500K left.

You mentioned the Flyers LTIR'ing Pronger, @Samifan , I know the Lightning will be able to lower their number by LTIR'ing Mattias Ohlund, as his contract is STILL an albatross on the Bolts for this season and next to the tune of $3.6M...that alone puts the Bolts back under the cap.

Whether the Lightning want to lower the cap further (1.8M is their deficit, the 3.6M LTIR obviously gives them 1.8M of freedom) will remain to be seen, but teams like Boston and Chicago will probably need to make a trade or waive some players in order to get under.

Also, not sure yet if LA, Pitts, Tor, or even the Rangers would want to create more room than the 250K-580K they each have respectively, or if they are comfortable starting the season that way.

Something's gotta happen soon...Opening Night in the NHL is on Wednesday!

You're welcome, Sami..

You know, I decided to further study that capgeek cap space page, and what I didn't notice the first time round, was the NUMBER of players each team has under "the projected roster", as worded by capgeek.

Other than Philly, the other teams right behind them on the list, still DO NOT have 25 players ready to go on their NHL roster!

So that means that even those teams with a wee bit of cap space will need to do something because they need to add anywhere from 1-3 players still and the measly amount they have left won't be enough to get that done.

Even those teams with a mil or two behind the Rangers on the list don't have 25 guys yet.

So there  may be a flurry of trades (probably smaller ones mostly, with MAYBE one big one) and waiving going on from here to Opening Night.

Bears keeping an eye on.

The Flyers are fine because of Pronger, Timmo and White going on LTIR (fine money wise but what team loses their top 2 d-men!!!???). The Flyers have some money then and are already at 22 players, one less than the max. Actually, not a bad place to be. And that 23 rd spot: Can anyone say Ghost.... (down the road a wee bit)

There we go @Samifan

The flurries have started...hehe.

Boychuk moved from the Bruins for cap relief, plus I discovered they are going to LTIR Marc Savard (around $4+M cap space).

Also, Chicago moved Leddy so that helps their cap situation a bit as well.

According to capgeek...here are the new top 10 'standings' in the cap space race... :)

1--Philadelphia: Still leading the way with being over by about $5.5 M.....the Pronger LTIR will help lower that.

2--Tampa Bay: Over by $1.87 M.....Ohlund LTIR lowers that

3--Boston:   Still over by $867 K even after the Boychuk deal....Marc Savard LTIR will lower that

4--Los Angeles: $208 K cap room

5--Pittsburgh :   $230 K cap room

6--Toronto    : $471 K cap room

7--NY Rangers : $587 K cap room

8--Chicago: After the Leddy deal have CREATED $827 K of cap room

9--St. Louis : $1.08 M cap room

10-Washington : $1.1 M cap room

Didn't look into the other teams below Boston to see if they have LTIR's that will help their situations or not.

Interesting thing while looking at this before and after today, that it seems 7 of the 10  listed teams with cap issues or near the top of the cap are Eastern Conference teams....
