TO again as they've done all year took their foot off the metal after building up the lead. I admire your glass-half-full spirit. It should be an interesting game two. WordsOfWisdom
Apr. 15: TOR vs WSH - GAME 2 Marincin, Hyman C. Carrick Gardiner, Brown Final score: 4-3(2OT) TOR. 1: Penalty by Marincin. Hyman out of position. 2: Penalty by Carrick. 3: Giveaway and lost coverage by Gardiner, lost coverage by Brown. HUGE WIN for the Leafs!!!

Leafs are matching them shot for shot, goal for goal, pass for pass, etc... Amazing performance! What did you think of the Polak injury? Who takes his place? hobie
Looks like Marincin has passed Carrick on the Babs' trust meter. Whoever replaces Polak won't get much icetime so who that is probably doesn't matter much.

(Thanks goodness in my opinion, but the top 4 are going to be on dead legs for game 3.)

WordsOfWisdom
If you guys prefer, I can also sort the defensive error stats by True +/-: The above list is basically a ranking of best overall to worst overall, although keep in mind that defencemen don't post high TPM numbers compared to forwards. WordsOfWisdom
Apr. 17: TOR vs WSH - GAME 3 Zaitsev Zaitsev, Andersen Andersen Final score: 4-3(OT) TOR. 1: Lost coverage by Zaitsev. 2: Zaitsev needs to get out to cover Ovie here, block this shot, or get out of the way. Andersen should have had this too. 3: Poor rebound control, bad angle goal. AMAZING result! Leafs take the series lead!
hobie
My stars of the game Nylander, Marner and Gardiner. Is there a better puck control/passer than Nylander in the NHL, yes one Karlsson but not many others. I'm surprised the Leafs are doing as well as they are, giving them hearty good showing guys by just making the playoffs seemed like ample consolation for their fans and them. Everyone figured they're too young but they're not they're too good to expect so little like simply making the playoffs. TO hasn't won the series but there's no reason to think they can't. BluPuk
Nylander had his best game of the play-offs last night for sure... and all the boys are hot to trot. Woot! Woot!
WordsOfWisdom
It feels like the Leafs players have gained another year of NHL experience in the past month. Kadri was huge last night too. He hit everything that moved, and got the critical assist on the winner. Rielly and Gardiner look like Norris trophy defencemen out there. It's as though the Leafs have four lines that can score right now. It's a scary powerful offence.
hobie
Ya, Kadri was something else, in their faces all night and of course Andersen is a given. Polak was a bad blow but losing Marincin, who has played well, really hurt. Fun times!
WordsOfWisdom
Apr. 19: TOR vs WSH - GAME 4 Zaitsev Bozak Rielly, Andersen Rielly C. Carrick, Matthews, Brown Final score: 5-4 WSH. 1: Lost coverage. 2: Penalty. 3: Needs to tie up the stick of the guy in front, Andersen needs to have this. 4: Rielly is knocked down and way out of position here. 5: Three Leafs players handle the puck like a hand grenade and costs them the game. Such a close game at the end. The fact that it even finished 5-4 is amazing. Andersen needs to clamp down and have a solid game again. He's letting in too many soft goals. BluPuk
The funny thing is, that game didn't change my opinion of the Leafs' chances. I still like their position at even through 4 games....

The Capitals are a very vulnerable team. If the Leafs can clamp things down in their own zone again, and get some big saves from Andersen again, they can definitely win this series. I wouldn't have thought that possible before.

Hyman loses his guy. 2: Rielly and Hunwick seem to get their signals crossed here, both go to the same guy. Tough loss.

Kapanen loses his guy coming back. 2: Marincin loses coverage of his guy at the net. That's all she wrote folks. Congrats to the Leafs on a much better than expected season.
