Should be a blowout. Canada has a very deep roster as usual with I believe all skaters being 1st round picks. This despite the stinking Rangers not allowing last years tournament MVP (as a 17 year old) and 1st overall pick Alexis Lefreniere to play, and captain Kirby Dach being out for the tournament (arguably the 2 best players in the tourney). Rust will definitely factor in games for Canada to start as most players haven't been in a real game since last season. Russia beat US yesterday 5-3 with neither Askarov or Knight looking great. Both should be contenders for best goalie in this tournament. Flyer prospects Bobby Brink (missed a wide open net early in the game) and US captain Cam York (front row seat for THREE Russian goals) did not have great games. York wasn't bad, but he was still right there for 3 against. That's 2/3 of ALL our prospects in the 2021 WJHCs...a far cry from when Philly would have the most of any team year in and year out. flyercanuck Posted January 5, 2021 Author Share Posted January 5, 2021 Canada advances to the gold again in a stifling display of forechecking in a 5-0 rout of Russia. Underrated Devon Levi pitched yet another shutout. The game was over less than a minute in when Newhook ripped one that nobody saw go in until replay caught it. They've pretty much rolled over everyone so far in this tournament. And that's without the best junior on the planet and arguably the 2nd best. One more to go. Good call. Canada looks really good. I thought the Russians would give them a little more trouble than what they did. Team USA will have their hands full for sure. I hope we in the US get the Canadian broadcast crew for tonight’s game. The two clowns in New Jersey that have been doing the US games are terrible.
