yave1964
Late last night the Bolts became cap compliant by dealing a second rounder along with Coburn and Paquette in exchange for the ghost of Gaborik and goalie Anders Nillsson who is likely out for the year with concussions. The Bolts get cap compliant but at a cost, in excahnge for the Sens taking the contract of Coburn off their hands they gave up Paquette, a hard driving solid underrated bottom six forward and a second. Essentially, they replaced the second that they gave up for Stepan giving them Stepan, Coburn and Paquette for free. A hell of a haul for the Sens. Mike Hoffman signed with the Blues on a 'PTO' until they LTIR Taresenko and can give him his contract. Solid signing for the Blues. Corey Perry signed as a bottom six winger for the Canadiens, good signing, low risk, medium reward. Darling reunited with Coach Quenneville in Florida, returning from the KHL on a PTO to compete for the 3G spot on the cats.
TropicalFruitGirl26
Was wondering how Tampa Bay was going to get around the numbers.....and I can see how now. Julien Brisbois apparently learned VERY well how to manage the cap from Steve Yzerman. Hate to see Cedric Paquette go (and Coburn too....face it...he was a good soldier for TB and his play was elevated since coming to the Lightning), but I'd rather part with those two than someone like Alex Killorn who was rumored to have be traded for the Bolts to get under the cap.....or worse, give up one of their young up n comers like Mikhail Sergachev, Erik Cernak, or Anthony Cirelli. Furthermore, with Nikita Kucherov likely to sit out the season as he recovers from surgery, the Lightning will have another 9M or so play around with during the season when he gets put on LTIR, with some vet contracts expiring at season's end as well. Again, nicely done by Yzerman's GM protégé Brisbois in navigating these tough cap waters and bringing back the team almost intact, with still an eye towards the coming seasons.
yave1964
A bit more housekeeping.... Athanasiou signs a one year deal with the Kings, I REALLY like where the Kings are, tons of kids on the way, solid veteran core, Athanasioulost interest last year, in the right situation he could regain 30 goal or close abilities. Low misk, medium high signing. Brassard signs with the Coyotes to replace Stepan at a lot less money. His ceiling not as high as Stepan and his floor is a bit lower but essentially the same player right out of central casting.

Perry is one of those players fans can dislike even if he plays for their team. It's his special power.
