  1. I'm sure there is little new here but, for what it is worth: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=398269
  2. I found a very appropriate bit of speculation to post here (from Eklund): On the Habs and Flyers... Hearing the Flyers and Habs may be looking at a backup goalie swap...Bobrovsky for Budaj (e2) e2...what the **** does that mean? Why do the Habs want Bobrovsky to back up Price? Why do the Flyers want Budaj? Is this a typo or is this even more incoherent drivel than usual from Ek? Is Homer bored or is he trying to teach the Habs new GM how to make a trade?
  3. I'm not sure why they would trade this guy but I'd be interested in knowing if he is really well above average at moving the puck. If he's not, he isn't a good fit.
  4. I would like to move Briere because I believe his production is going to decline rapidly and because we have three very good young centers in the line up. But I don't think he can be moved. His cap hit is way in excess of his production and his salary is still $7MM. You will get your wish. Timmo could be moved easily but I don't think we can manage without him.
  5. I noticed that too. I liked how Gags got in there early but didn't understand the choice of Carter & Ricards before Quick and Doughty.
  6. Carter seems to have found his range in L.A., especially on that second goal.
  7. Did you see how Richards actually handed the Cup to Carter? They could not have scripted it better themselves.
  8. I stayed up with my almost 7 year old too (to watch our "2nd favorite team") and he was riveted. My 5 YO conked out. We watched these playoffs together while they continued playing and it was a great experience watching them get truly hooked.
  9. Was that you? I thought it was aziz who said that.
  10. There is a single, speculative mention of Bob in this article that is nothing but conjecture. We're just swapping stories here because there is nothing serious here.
  11. As I just mentioned in another post, the delay in the surgery and any trade are almost certainly not related and this undermines Eskin's story. It is plausible that something is cooking with JvR but it is probably not as Eskin describes.
  12. As I indicated in my post, he can be off base and I stand by that comment. He's occasionally right but has been wrong plenty of times too. While there might by something cooking with JvR, the delay in the surgery and any trade are almost certainly not related. A prospective suitor should probably be more concerned with the foot infection (staph?) than a routine labrum repair, so it is hard to understand why Homer would be peddling such a dumb lie.
  13. Kind of like the "Nodl will outscore Jagr" comment? You're right. No one remembers that.
  14. I do too, especially after my emphatic post on the topic. Would hate to have to post a retraction or (more likely) to erase that post in the dead of night.
  15. Sounds like a good bet if he's around at #20 though you have to doubt that he will (NHL ready defenseman available in late first round...something doesn't sound right here). I would only add that the Flyers would be stupid to draft for immediate need irrespective of who is left on the board.
  16. This report by Eskin is complete hogwash and there is nothing interesting about it other than it shows how off base Eskin can be. There is a legitimate reason to delay the surgery. What's more, delaying the routine procedure JvR is going to have probably wouldn't delay a trade anyway. Finally, the "rumor" (if you want to dignify this crap as a rumor) is that JvR is being sent along with some other players for Rick Nash, a player the Flyers probably don't need at all who carries a $7.8MM cap hit. If Eskin knew more about hockey, he would have made up a more plausible "rumor" in which JvR is part of a package for Shea Weber. Move along..nothing to see here.
  17. While I tend to doubt Bob will ever be close to as good as Quick, Bob has the time, inherent talent and work ethic to outperform his current projection as a less than elite goaltender. I'm not in a rush to see him moved.
  18. @idahophilly It's good that someone as credible as Meltzer makes this point (even though you know there are some people who will never listen to reason).
  19. Tonner's "tagging space" is the back seat of his '77 Eldorado.
  20. @idahophilly If you had told me in 1998 that Jagr would one day become the Flyers' most respected player, a consummate professional, and indispensable dressing room leader, I would have checked you into rehab.
  21. Lots of people are in a rush to trade JvR. Maybe he gets moved but I don't think it will be for Schenn. If they move him, they need to get a dynamic, multi dimensional defenseman in return. That is the organization's need but Schenn doesn't fit the bill.
  22. It is kind of begging for a "goalie controversy", isn't it? So I kind of doubt they'll head in that direction. I more expect Homer to focus on keeping Bryzgalov calm and hoping he'll round into form in his second season. I'm not endorsing the approach, just forecasting.
  23. I haven't seen him enough to know but I have to wonder how a goaltender will fare in a more conventional situation upon leaving a defense first team like the Wild. They couldn't score but they were very good at keeping the puck out of their own net; are Harding's numbers merely a reflection of that or can he really play? I kind of doubt he's likely to come to Philly. He played 34 games last season and had a .917 SV%. He's worth $2MM anyway and I kind of doubt the Flyers will pay that to bring in a veteran guy with any aspirations of being a starter.
  24. Some doubt that Harding would sign to be a backup in a situation where his playing time would be limited to 20-25 games.
