  1. No doubt these were produced for the Canadiens Centennial game. I am on aretro-modern design kick lately.

These are obviously not even PU leather. They are tricot. But they got the colour of natural leather right, and that's the cool part. I think when I get my custom VH skates, I want brown and black; however, I may see if I can't work in some tan, as well.

    Pix to come!

"Back home, my in laws are uuge Bristol City supporters. One cousin is a Rovers supporter, and he has been banned from family gatherings."

Aww man ... that's gotta be tough.  Especially with Thanksgiving around the corner ...

Most of the sports fans in my family come from my Dad's side.  My late mother (rest in peace) was a big basketball fan and would watch other teams besides the Pistons (I'd try to make her a Bulls fan), but her side of the family didn't really follow sports.

Considering that we don't celebrate Thanksgiving back home, no big deal. And he is only banned when he gets pissed and talks about how great he thinks his Rovers are. We take the piss out of him, really. He's not really banned except when he drinks too much. We give him a good sorting on occasion.

My family really doesn't care about sport that much. I am the one into sport. No complications, whether it be Football or Hockey. My gramps was the sports fan, and he had no allegiances, just four televisions to watch American Football.

  4. While I see @fanaticV3.0 's point, @flyercanuck is right on as far as who we WILL see in the next few years. I remember when the power forward was de rigour. Now it seems there are few left. But the Blues had a lack of size last year that frankly cost the the playoffs last season. They have upgraded their size considerably. I think size has shrunk temporarily in the NHL, but as humans are on average taller and bigger than ever, this will be reflected in the size of NHL players in the future.

"What happened to fighting the guy who cheap-shotted your star player?"

That's true ... we really don't see that as much these days.  The most recent example I can think of is when Jamal Mayers challenged Raffi Torres (who joined the San Jose Sharks last season from Phoenix) to a fight in the first game that the Hawks met Torres since his infamous hit on Marian Hossa.

I miss Mayers. Quality player. He should be a hall of famer.

  6. '70s hockey hooked me, '80s was when I understood. '90s hockey was kinda tame in comparison.

I hate the pre-arranged fighting in the first ten seconds in today's game. What happened to fighting the guy who cheap-shotted your star player?

  7. I see what you're saying. Materials have gotten better as time has elapsed so the argument can go away for equipment becoming larger and larger. The fans are more interested in scoring.

I don't want to see a larger net. I would like to see the trapezoid go away, myself. That could incidentally increase scoring if the goalie could come out further to play the puck. I think goalie sweaters should definitely be more form-fitting, and the leg pads should be shorter, particularly for the butterfly goalie style currently in vogue.

The only thing I see wrong with shrinking the equipment is for the economics of the game for youth. But that can be grandfathered in, like giving a cut-off date for the old stuff to go away in five years. NHL and other pro bodies can and do change equipment on the fly. Lower level college programmes and such don't have that luxury, but a five year period could solve those problems for all but elite competition.

    Interesting thought.

  8. My initial impressions is that this lid has a fair bit more ventilation. It might not be quite as ventilated as the Re-Akt or the 9.0 (same shell AFAIK, different foam). Me thinks the lid I had (Bauer 2100) uses cheaper plastic, therefore the vents cannot be as large and still protect my head. This one has fairly large vents on the top, as well as a fair few on the sides.

It also has a better view and larger opening for the face. The ear protection would fold down my ears. Not being in sanctioned play, I can remove the ear flaps.

I did put some helmet sizing pads between the air pockets and the foam to snug up the helmet. This helmet is not going to be worn like I did in Junior hockey as now I want the helmet to protect my head rather than get blown off of my head by a hit.

    Full review tomorrow after hockey.
