    No we don't.

I've heard the man say too many times that team lacks high end talent.

I don't see where getting a top 5 pick is something he's going to take lightly, and not bring as many assets to bear on it as possible.

There should be a good hockey player available at #5.  I expect the Flyers to pick one and for that player to make in strong impact in a few years.

Yes there should be a good hockey player available at #5 but I don't have as much confidence in Fletcher as you do that he won't **** things up.

Lightning just may have what it takes to bring the series back to Toronto, but that is going to be tough winning two in a row and with the Toronto crowd surely going crazy it is going to be extra hard.

Well Toronto doesn't want to leave it to a game 7 so they should take care of business in game 6. Otherwise the ghosts of game 7 past may come back to haunt the Leafs.

I full expect the Black Hawks to have their tank game dead on with this game.

Flyers just have to many hungry young kids who want to put on a good performance which I really can't blame them.

But I would be happy to seal in the 3rd or 4th pick if they can...

I'd like to see the Flyers lose their remaining 3 games and Seattle either win 2 of their remaining games or even tie the Flyers in points so the Flyers end up in the bottom 3 teams of the league in order to have a shot at the first overall.

Up until after the game last night I was confident G would agree to a trade for a cup run somewhere and then eagerly sign a FA deal to return for a few more years at a reduced rate and role to finish his career with an organEYEzaSHUN that he truly loves.

However that double curtain call he took after the game had a feel to it as if it was the last time he would be on that ice wearing a flyers sweater. Maybe he’s going to cut the cord completely?

He may cut the cord all together with the Flyers, as much as I liked him as a player, I'd resign him if it was for a max of $5 million per year on a 3 year deal otherwise don't bother.

I don't know why but this one hit me in the gut...

I have to watch. It's must see TV for if he leaves or stays.

I was at that game in Ottawa back in 2008, a buddy of mine had two tickets so we went to watch the game. Funny thing was my buddy and I were at a sports bar during the day before the game sitting down and having a couple of beers. We were sitting with our Flyers jerseys on and a gentleman in his mid 40's looked over and asked us if we were going to the game. So we started talking to him and found out he was Giroux's dad, so he had a beer with us and you could see how proud that his son (like every hockey dad would be) was playing his first NHL game in his hometown territory. My buddy had two seats right beside the glass near the Flyers penalty box and we got to see Daniel Briere's face smashed up against the glass by a Sens player. Got to love NHL hockey.

    So, this has happened?

Nothing on the official site, yet but TSN saying it's...5.1 x5.

    Dang it.

If so, this is definitely a 'justification" signing. ...Well we gave up so much to get him...

It is difficult to see where or how this works out from today.

Totally agree, this is Fletcher justifying giving up a 1st rounder plus 2 other picks I believe for Rusty. Does any other Flyers fan think that Fletcher will find a way to **** up a Giroux trade. I know right handed defensemen are hard to come by but now Fletcher has $11.35 in cap space tied up with a defensemen who maybe injured the whole time he's here in Philly and the other who has done nothing to warrant being resigned for 5 years. I'm not holding my breathe that Fletcher won't **** up the trade deadline and the high pick the Flyers will receive in the upcoming draft. For the previous GM, Hextall, when they had to draft Makar who the Flyers scouts wanted, he decided to pick Patrick. It's a great time to be a Flyers fan!

I guess I'm just not sure what this is supposed to mean? He's a skill-based playmaker who has very good ice vision, can create space for others, and is at his best when making high skill passes that few players in the world can do. I feel he's done that very consistently the whole time.

I don't think it's fair to suggest he doesn't care or he doesn't try. I think it is fair to suggest he can't do it all, and there are things he shouldn't frankly be asked to do, because that's just not his game. He's scored a bunch of points, so he's clearly "bringing it" in that regard.

But if we're not talking about his actual captain duties of motivating the team, working as a go-between with coaches, and dealing with refs, what are we talking about in terms of his captaincy? To me, if we're going to suggest he's not a great captain, those are very much the things we should be considering. It doesn't seem fair to say he's not a good captain because he's not Lindros or Clarke. There are virtually no such players left in the NHL today, but plenty of NHL captains who find success.

This is all besides the point of the thread also. Again, in terms of his value to a contending team, his skills make him easily the most impactful player on the market this season. What that fetches in a trade though, with all the challenges related to his status longer term and age, is anyone's guess.

I think Giroux is a good captain but didn't have lots of support over the years. The question now with the Flyers fans that hope that he gets traded so the Flyers can accumulate picks and young players, how will the Philly fans react if he doesn't waive his no-trade clause to be traded. Will they boo him or say it was his choice he earned that right.

State of the union address is Wednesday morning at 11. Let's see if there's going to be any tough questions or do they lob Schmuck and company fluff questions.

This is the 2006/07 season all over again. Figure out the core players and get rid of the rest, starting with Giroux.

Love Bobby Clarke the player. Can't stand Bob Clarke the hockey executive.

Watching "The Case for 88" I'm hard pressed to find another hockey executive who is as obviously petty and petulant as "Bob" Clarke.

It seems clear to me that they are feeling the heat as "Senior Hockey Advisors" to a team that has one playoff round win in ten years and looking for scapegoats.

The guy who is GM in Pittsburgh at this point is a solid choice for that - with the caveat that the Pens are actually in a playoff spot...

And, yes, there is no way in hell that "Bob" Clarke drafts a college defenceman over a Western Canadian Junior hockey center. And don't even get me started on the Finn, because he didn't even want Joni Piknosen when he drafted him...

Yes when the Flyers could have signed Curtis Joseph he decides to sign Beezer instead. Clarke is probably pissed that the Pens with Hextall are in a playoff spot and the Flyers aren't.

    Buyers or sellers?

Of course we should be sellers. But we won't be because Fletcher was brought in to go for it like he always did in Minnesota.

Of course the Flyers should be sellers but will they that remains to be seen. Most Flyers fans want them to be sellers but knowing Fletcher he'll **** it up like he did in Minnesota.

    Hart

    Couturier

    Provorov

    Konecny

    Farabee

Probably keep Ellis. Maybe Lindblom. I'm OK with Laughton in his role. Propsects like Allison, Old Foerster, Frost, York.

That said, I do believe that this current roster at full strength with the addition of a competent and effective top flight second line center could be competitive. A Cup winner? Might be a reach. And also depends heavily on the players playing hard and to their potential.

I agree with your list plus Ellis won't be going anywhere. Fletcher made moves this past summer to change things but it hasn't panned out the way he hoped so far. The unfortunate thing is Fletcher, Holmgren and Clarke are going to look for a quick fix and say screw the future, so we as fans may never see a proper rebuild with the Flyers.

It's a combination of both. When you're a coach and you're charged with "making the playoffs" your focus is going to be on putting players out there that you feel comfortable with rather than "taking a chance" on developing a player.

So you wind up with Brassard instead of Frost, for example.

And when you're a GM and you're charged with "making the playoff next year" then you wind up filling a short term need to a long term boat anchor and that's where you wind with with "best available" Kevin Hayes as your second line center for seven years.

And that's where the organization's* phillyosophy has tripped them up for a decade.

    Yep, rearranging deck chairs. Again.

Well I think the players have tuned out AV so if you're the GM what would you do. Lots of fans on here want to do a rebuild which I have no problem doing so who would be your core players to build with.

Neither did Laviolette's - who has only won a Cup and subsequently taken another team to the Final.

Nor did Berube's - who has subsequently won a Cup with another franchise

And now AV's doesn't work, either - a coach who has been to two Cup finals with two other franchises

Now, stay with me here, I'm speculating that it just maybe, perhaps, might not be "the coach".

    Suspicious Meme GIF by MOODMAN

Or it could be a combination of both when it comes to coaching and the leadership group on this team. AV has a hard time playing young players unless he has no other choice. As for leadership, Giroux looks like he needs a change of scenery. The Flyers have lost 7 straight so if they keep losing something is going to happen whether it's the coaches or some players being traded. Or maybe a lot of empty seats at the rink.

It doesn't seem that long ago that I watched a road game vs the Caps where guys were contesting every inch of ice.

It was an exciting game, the Flyers dictated the play for 45 minutes. They back checked everywhere.

It was a good game played by what looked like a good team. They won 2-1 but it was an exciting game lots of chances both ways.

What the hell has happened since then ?

There are a lot of guys who are injured, that probably make the team better but the effort I saw vs the Caps isn't there.

Team wide except for in goal.

    It's pretty demoralizing.

It also doesn't feel like anything can be done to turn it around.

I think Fletcher has done as good of a job as he's capable of doing.

He changed the room. It doesn't seem to matter.

A thing he did do was give himself some "outs" this offseason.

    Comcast won't let him rebuild.

If it were me running the show, I'd be firing everyone.

I'd hire one of Jarmo's acolytes tell them to hire Rick Tocchet and draft fast and mean muther****ers.

These next two drafts are a good time to have high picks.

I'll start: Giroux to Colorado for Newhook and a 2nd.

Comcast will fire up 2 more Star Wars nights. Did I mention how much fun that was? Even while the product on the ice was garbage?

I'd be ok with Rick Tocchet being brought in as head coach, at least he understands the Flyers fans as to what they want to see happening on the ice. Figure out your core and go from there.

Those two I don't think are dead weight.

Besides we have to keep a vet or two.

I am ok keeping these two but for the right offer sure I move them.

    Let's rebuild. Not retool.

The players seem to be playing to get the coaching fired. Whatever AV's system is it doesn't work with this group or probably any other group of players.

The Colts got burned when Philly decided to keep Foerster in LV. He's now out for the season. Go figure.

Our goaltending was suspect but we just picked up Mack Guzda who should be a huge upgrade.  I think despite losing our best player they should be all in on this season.

Well the Wolves are the Wolves, upper management is useless. Their 1st overall looks like he'll turn out to be a good player but Sudbury will find a way to screw that up.

He sure looked like he was AHL ready. But he could also take a step back, you never know. It wouldn't hurt him one bit to dominate in the O on a pretty offensively gifted Colts team this year.

The Flyers should send him back to the OHL where he'll get lots of playing time on the Colts. I'm sure the Colts and Sudbury Wolves will be battling for 1st in the division.
