And this is the icing on this season's cake.

I know it wouldn't mean much, but to see him stabilize his game for the last few would help a lot of fans step away from the ledge.

He wouldn't stabilize his game behind this defense. Start over for next year.

Nor have they been able to buy one like Lindros.

Pittsburgh flat out sucked for years before getting Crosby. Edmonton did the same thing before McDavid.

This organization* has neither been good enough to win on the ice nor bad enough to win in the draft.

They're not going to get a generational player picking in the low teens/high 20s.

And that again reflects an organizational* mindset that was always able to go out and buy players either as FA or via trade to be successful. Until they demanded that there be a salary cap. Then they tried everything to circumvent that cap before it could be implemented, traded away the circumvention, and... well... there they are still trying to buy a FA or make a trade to make it work.

    It's beyond frustrating.

We could try suck to get Connor Bedard. 1.87 points per game as a 16 year old. Mcdavid was 1.05 per game at his age. Connor Bedard: A Generational Talent (thehockeywriters.com) Actually the way they look right now we might not be far off from him.

Thanks for the correction.  I've read two pundits that think his career with the O and B will be over sooner than later as a change-of-scenery play.  He won't be the overall second draft pick who hasn't done much playing elsewhere.  I see some truth to that...maybe not much, but some.

The one thing with Patrick is he looks scared on the ice. Like don't touch me scared.  It honestly looks like he doesn't enjoy playing hockey anymore.  I could be wrong but that's his body language right now.

I don't i want to see as many kids play on the Flyers as they can get into the lineup especially with the Phantoms games keeping getting canceled the kids need to play. Besides i know there is no way the can move closer down into the top 5 so just try and finish out the season on a good note and healthy and prepare for the next season.

I think Laczynski and Allison will be apart of next year's lineup to start.

These aren't just kids TL will be 24 by the start of the season and WA will be 24 by October so i think they have a great chance to stick if nothing else in the bottom 6 to begin with.

Right now it shakes out something like this...

    23 Oskar Lindblom - 14 Sean Couturier - 11 Travis Konecny
    28 Claude Giroux - 13 Kevin Hayes - 86 Joel Farabee
    21 Scott Laughton - 24 Tanner Laczynski - 17 Wade Allison
    82 Connor Bunnaman  - 19 Nolan Patrick - 62 Nicolas Aube-Kubel

    9 Ivan Provorov - ???????
    6 Travis Sanheim - 5 Phil Myers
55 Sam Morin 53 Shayne Gostisbehere

    61 Justin Braun

    79 Carter Hart

    ????????????

Nolan Patrick won't be on the Flyers next year. I wouldn't surprised if Fletcher tries to do big move this summer.  If the Bluejackets are rebuilding I do whatever it takes to get Seth Jones.

  5. I haven't read all the comments but I'll give my two cents. One thing I have learned about the cap world by watching a team like the Oilers for the last 10 years is you can't trade your way out of bad situation. All you get is bad players for bad players or bad contracts for bad contracts. Now with the flat cap it is going to be worse. Right now the Flyers have to make a decision of on which way they want to go. Keep treading water or deal some guys like Laughton and Raffle at the deadline and look to next year.  Lets face it this team is not built for AV's system. You have to be fast and you have to want to block shots. That's the one thing AV's teams have always done is block a ton of shots. When he coached Vancouver you could barley get a shot to the net half the time. It was really frustrating to watch. This team doesn't sacrifice their body a whole lot. At least not this year. Last year they did a better job.  You can hope that Seattle would want to pick up Jake or Ghost but it's highly doubtful. One thing I can be certain the Flyers won't be losing an impact player in the expansion draft. There's going to be some teams in the division that will. Until the Flyers get a difference maker, a "star" player we will be stuck with the same average team. All the top teams have a guy that scares you when he's one the ice. The Flyers haven't had that since Lindros.  I don't know that the answer is but when someone like myself a hard core Flyers fan since I was 4 switches to baseball to watch this time of year I can't imagine what other people are doing.

Where is the high stick here?    Seriously asking.    It's possible it's the butt end, but one, I don't think so and 2) if anything it's the top glove hand.

Completely phantom calls going on in this league.    Two refs in a game and they either see nothing or they see fantasyland.   I think the fired ref imbecile isn't alone; just the only one who said the quiet things in their outside voice.

That right there is a player embarrassing an official. And people wonder why there are make up calls. If I was an official and looked at the replay I would be pissed. There's literally nothing there to call.  There wasn't even any force to do any damage even if the stick butt did hit him.

  7. For the first time in a long long time I stopped watching after the first period.  Can't even remember the last time I shut off a game. I've been in kind of a twitter argument with one of the Flyers media. I told him two weeks ago the Flyers have checked out. He keeps saying they haven't. I remind him after every game like last night. I've coached enough teams to know when a team has checked out. Doesn't matter what level.  I coached a team two years ago. I knew with 5-7 games left in the season our team had left the building.  It didn't matter what I said or did in practice. Nothing changed. There was no compete level by at least 60% of our team. When that happens your done. You can tell how engaged a team is just by their reaction in a scrum.  When theirs no push back there's issues.

So I take it the game did not go well?

At this point I think I'm more interested in weeding my garden and flower beds than watching this team.

Chuck Fletcher's press availability today should be interesting, it probably won't be.

There is something wrong with this group of players. What ever remedy fixes the mental laziness I see all the time... I'm for.

I've been saying this since the bubble. There's is something really wrong with this team. Most nights they don't look interested in playing.  There was a couple plays they did last night that I would lose my mind on my U15 team if they did what the Flyers were doing.  I've never seen a team pass it right to the opposing team more than the Flyers do. Hayes throwing the puck onto Ghost's stick with 6 seconds left in the period. Just bat it in the corner.  Gustafson has to be one of the worse D men in his own end I have ever seen.

There is talent in every draft, some more than others. You need scouts who can find it, player development, and leadership on and off the ice. Flyers currently have none of the above. There is talent on this team, they are just not a good sum of their parts. And obviously no accountability or ownership by the players or coaches. They continue to make the same mistakes over and over and over again. That screams "I don't care".

They don't have the type of talent needed to play AV's system. You need speed and size to play his system. The Flyers have some size but I don't know about the speed. Can someone tell me what happened to TK.  Kid has such skill but has been missing in action for a year now.  There's got to be something going on there.

Watching this game i noticed that in oir offensive zone, we get double teamed a lot. This usually results in panic, and a turnover

On the PP, if a team pressures the puck carrier this usually results in panic, and a turnover

On the PP if you pressure the puck carrier entering the zone, this usually results in panic, and a turnover

In our defensive zone, if you pressure the guy with the puck, this results in panic,  and a turnover

They dont seem to know who they are supposed to pass to when pressured

I wonder if this has anything to do with their poor play?

...oh, Hayes lookes like he is playing stoned

That's exactly what the penquins did as well as the capitals.  They had Scotty Upshall on the radio the other day. He said when he played under Tippet he said on the power play if they won the draw the were suppose to get a shot on net within 3-5 seconds of winning the draw. It makes the defenders have to turn their backs to the D men and cause's chaos with the defenders. Actually think it makes sense. And yes Hayes looks like he's somewhere else most nights. Like not even engaged in the game.

Here’s a wake up call ....They don’t have the cap space to sign Coots,Hart, Sanheim, NAK, Patrick and Laughton, who all are needing new contracts. They do need to dump some of these other big contracts somehow In order to even think about signing Coots plus anyone else and also for any future UFAs. Chuck has a big job ahead of him and if we still have a flat cap and all the teams are kinda stuck, it’s gonna be hard to dump any of the vets.

Those 5 guys will not be getting much more than what they are making now. Hart will get a bridge deal. Giroux's contract will be up when Coot's new contract will begin. My guess is I can see Vorachek being left unprotected in the expansion draft or be bought out as some point.   Flat cap for the next three years is what they are saying. There's not going to be a lot of player movement is my prediction. Guys will get what they can get. The best players always get their money it's the NAK's and the Laughton's that will suffer.

I agree with everything you said except the foot speed which he has in spades the problem is the brain is lagging behind to tell him where his feet need to be...which causes him to always be out of position so much.

That is the difference, at the level is you have to think on your feet and be able to process quickly and well i ain't pick on the kid but you can have all the tools in the world but the brain needs to be able to utilize tools in the proper time frame.

And this is what we se still too with Myers and Sanheim....but Ghost is 28 next month and well what you see is what you get.

If you watch next game you'll notice Ghost's flat speed is not very good. You will rarely see him track down a player who has a step on him. He looks like he's skating fast because he has a lot of upper body movement but he's really not. I give Sanheim and Myers a bit of a pass because they are both still pretty green NHL defensemen. They both were a lot better last year though when Niskanen was taking up 20 plus minutes a night.  That Vet D man can make all the difference to a younger guy. I would love the Flyers to take a run at Ristolainen. He's still young but he sure plays a tough game. He hits everything around him. Right shot to. I never realized how many kids that play D are left handed until my kid started playing D.

On a good note , it took forever ,but we finally did draft some offensively skilled ,shoot first players that seem more exciting than the players we have now. Wisdom, Brink, Foerester and Desoyners all seem to be highly skilled. We also have two big guys that can shoot Allison and Ratcliffe. If Coots gets trade it has to be for blue chip  young players.

Sorry to burst your bubble but Coots will be a Flyer for long time. Bet he gets 7-8 years.  In the off season.

I didn't watch the whole game last night i watched the condensed version this morning and i came away thinking good lord Ghost and Prosser were down right terrible...especially Ghost.

I mean sure it would have been nice to see the stud Hart of old make that save but i digress.

Prosser is well kind of what you would expect from a 9th defenseman.

Was this AV's ploy to distract us from how bad Sanheim and Myers truly are.

Man Sanheim and Myers are both 24 years old WTF are we going to see some light come on for these two in displaying some sibilance of chemistry of know how to defend better together, when to know for one of the two to hang back incase one of them gets caught pinching??

I know it isn't all the defensemen's fault the forward suck at helping and to me the most discouraging part is damn Hart just looks like this year's Carson Wentz like in one year he totally forgot how to play his position like the stud he was.

Very concerned. Especially against a very underwhelming Rangers squad...

The give and go goal was more on Lindblom then anybody. He was so afraid to touch the puck because it was offside he let them have an easy out. He touches the puck the plays dead or at least put pressure on the Ranger player there's no way they get out of the zone that easy. Although those two D men have been bad no one is even close to as bad as Ghost defensively. He's a train wreck and doesn't have to the foot speed to correct his mistakes. Then add the fact that he's as soft as a pillow in front of the net it's not good.

I don't think the Flyers youth is as bad as they look this year. Last year at this time they were looking pretty damn good as a matter of fact. Konecny was the leading scorer. Provorov/Sanheim/Myers were looking like part of a solid top 4. Hart was easily our #1. Farabee looked good ( still does) Lindblom looked good until the big C. NAK looks like a good 3rd liner.

I think the entire team has lost it's confidence.

I think it's going to take Lindblom a long time to regain his form. Rightfully so. But he looks like a fraction of his old self.
