  1. I think Holmgren is and was exploring defensive trade options. But with the entire league so tight this year in the standings that option will be difficult. I read this morning and it makes sense as to why our team struggles so when Pronger is out of the line-u[. And that is it takes two defensemen to cover what Pronger does.
  2. This clip was created for Phantoms 1980s Night, which was on Nov. 25. It was a celebration of the hair bands that visited the Glens Falls Civic Center, and a time when hockey was apparently played without goaltenders (based on the stats we've seen). Number 19 in your programs, and now No. 1 in your hearts, is center Luke Pither(notes), who may or may not be channeling Thomas Jane from "Boogie Nights." "The guys were great. Luke Pither was the star of the video. We went to him and asked him who he thought would work best," said Matt Valinski, director of marketing. He drafted forward Jason Akeson(notes), defenseman Kevin Marshall(notes) and forward Tye McGinn(notes) for the shoot. Valinski said all of them took to it well, and needed little choreography. "For a lot of the dancing, the guys would say 'Alright, you just want me looking at the camera and moving, right?'" he said. Kevin Marshall (No. 4), called up to the Flyers in the wake of Chris Pronger's(notes) injury, seems to have mastered the sensual sway of Robert Palmer's overly made-up backup band; yet, at the end, he's gone all Wham! on us. Then there's the scene in which the players attempt to outrun a space-time warp tunnel and then disappear. Which is actually how waivers work. The scene with the tumbling dice and the players running in place? Inspired by the classic Starship video, according to Valinski: "In the actual video, for reasons unknown to me, there are people being run down by a giant pair of dice." Oh yeah, about that 1980s-style Whitesnake move with the girl on the hood of the car? Turns out their mascot has that covered: [CLICK HERE TO WATCH] Thanks to Phantoms for giving the world this video. You may not be the Belfast Giants. But the Belfast Giants also didn't have such amazing special effects. (My god, his head has descended from the ceiling, where he was no doubt dancing!) The big question: Will there be a holiday offering from the Phantoms? "We are planning on doing a Christmas video," said Valinski. http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_daddy/post/Video-Adirondack-Phantoms-8216-Built-This-82?urn=nhl-wp18474
  3. huh? If JVR is out for any length of time, Schenn will definately be given an opportunity to play on the top 3 lines.
  4. Almost, I think they knew they needed some time to evaluate the situation with his knee. They were hoping that he wouldn't need surgery, but when the condition didn't improve they had no choice.
  5. @habs Do you want Jody Shelley? He is a good lockerroom type guy. The Flyers don't need him and the fans don't want to watch him. Skip Parros for a fourth round pick, take Shelley ........... for FREE!!!!!!!!!!
  6. I think the first game or so after Pronger is out of the line-up is relevant. Bryz has stated that there have been communication issues with the defense.
  7. Hurricanes replace head coach Maurice with Muller TSN.ca Staff - 11/28/2011 10:16:02 AM The Carolina Hurricanes have fired head coach Paul Maurice and replaced him with former Montreal Canadiens assistant coach KirkMuller. Muller, who spent five seasons with the Canadiens as an assistant under Guy Carbonneau, Bob Gainey and Jacques Martin, joined the Nashville Predators this season as head coach of their AHL affiliate in Milwaukee. The Hurricanes have struggled in the first quarter of the season, sitting last in the Southeast Division with an 8-13-4 record. Maurice, 44, rejoined the Hurricanes in December of 2008 and was in his 15th season as an NHL head coach. He has a 460-457-167 career record with the Hurricanes and Toronto Maple Leafs. Maurice joined the Hurricanes franchise while they were the Hartford Whalers in 1995-96 and was - at the time - the youngest coach in league history at the age of 28. After the club moved to North Carolina in 1997, Maurice helped lead the franchise to two Southeast Division titles and its first Stanley Cup Final appearance in 2001-02.I Two seasons ago, he became the 19th coach and the youngest in history to coach 1,000 NHL games. Prior to re-joining the Hurricanes, Maurime collected a record of 76-66-22 during two full seasons as coach of the Maple Leafs from 2006 to 2008.B
  8. I agree, it is far to early to label Bryz a mistake. Bryz's worst games coincidentally are the games after Pronger was out of the line-up.
  9. I'm not buying your explanation aziz, Bryz's poor performance cannot just be blamed for bob's starts. For example bob started on Nov 3 and Bryz played on Nov 5 and played just fine. What appears to be much more significant in how well Bryz plays has more to do with the absense of Pronger. Pronger was injured on Oct 24th. The games following were Bryz's worst. Then Pronger's most recent last game was Nov 19. the following two starts for Bryz were again horrible.
  10. This is one of my favorite quotes. “What a signing!” Jagr replied, laughing. “He’s got nine years left, right?
  11. I think it could mean a couple of things. One possibility is that Lavy doesn't completely understand Bryz's psyche. So far he has tried a couple of things with Bryz one being to put him right back in after a poor showing, but that hasn't worked for any length of time. I think the one thing that has been made obvious is once Bryz is embarrasses about his play he has returned twice now with a solid effort. But that consistency is easily rattled with sloppy defensive play. Bryz has definitely has played better with Pronger in the line up. Lavy knows he has to get Bryz to play at the top of his game soon, so maybe a bit of competition will motivate Bryz to focus more. Thus setting a precidence that he will play the hot goalie. I think it also means that this is a long season, and winning is more important than the money the organization choses to spend on its players.
  12. An interesting choice Lavy made today going with Bob. It appears on the surface he went with the hot goalie in BoB, but then Lavy could have made the decision NOT to play Bryz to protect him from another loss while playing with less than the team 6 nhl defensemen. I agree though, Bryz will be back next Friday.
  13. I am just speculating, for what ever reason Holmgren is more elusive than in the past.
  14. Holmgren stated that Pronger was feeling better but would not play until next Friday. I think Mono would qualify as a virus, where an athlete can not have physical activity for two weeks.
  15. I believe it happened in the third period, Lilja stumbled over one of their forwards and fell along the boards behind bob's net. I just read on csnphilly.com where TP states Lilja has a knee sprain. Thats what it looked like on the tv, but holmgren said high anlke sprain......oh well one of them is more right than the other.
  16. Actually Lilja can go on LTIR because he will be out at least 24 days or 10 games. i didn't think of LTIR when writing my post. IR and LTIR are basically the same, just differ in how teams can go about replacing the player. Both IR and LTIR players are not on the active roster. A player on IR is short-term (must remain on IR for 7 days, can be retroactive) and can't have his salary replaced by a player called up or acquired. LTIR is for players who will sit out at least 10 games or 24 days. These players can have their cap salary replaced while they are injured, which also allows teams to exceed the cap by 10% in order to allow a team right against the cap to be able to deal with injuries. There's a common misconception that LTIR allows teams to "bank" cap space. Not true. Injured players have their salary count fully against the cap, regardless of the term of their injury. The only way to save money on the cap with an injured player is to have that player injured for the entire season.
  17. At least Lilja can go on IR to allow space for a call up. Wonder who?
  18. Pronger feeling better, won't play till next Friday. Jagr out till Friday as well. Lilja out 6 weeks with high ankle sprain JVR out tomorrow Edit: anyone think Pronger could have mono?

    Pronger

I was going to start a similar thread. I agree! Something is up. First of all most do not see a doctor and have tests done when they first come down with a virus, unless he has symptoms for a few days. Sort of makes you wonder if he is having some type of vision problem.
  21. For anyone who has some time for a light read; http://forums.philly.com/discussions/Flyers_Forum/_/_/kr-flyers/85080.1?nav=messages I noticed aziz you mentioned bob is getting a game a week ......... Hmmmm that surely gives him more than 15 starts. Just sayin. Sure looks as if bob is being given a chance to prove himself.
  22. I agree. One of the reasons for the poor GAA for both goaltenders is due to the fact that the flyers have taken the most penalties in the NHL. Most of their penalties are stick-related and lazy penalties – hooking, tripping, interference. All avoidable penalties. Some of these penalties have often come at the most in opportune moments of a game, giving he goaltenders a poor shot at winning. The defensive coverage has been inconsistent. The d-pairs have changed in recent weeks because of injuries. All of the above factors in the play and inconsistancy of play around the net.
  23. I believe they said this will be on Dec 14 from 4:00 to 6:00 Lindros said there is still the possibility that Renberg could arrive for a short visit depending on if his schedule allows. Glad to see these two involved in flyers hockey again.
  24. 1. I would get rid of the guaranteed contracts with some restrictions. Maybe each contract has a minimum guaranteed length. Prior to the beginning of each season, teams can cut players not worthy or needed on their team. That player becomes a FA. Once the season starts the waiver process is In effect. 2. Allow some form of the luxury tax to apply for players over the age of 30. Meaning clubs can pay these players a higher fee to play on their team, but only 2/3 of their actual salary becomes a part of the cap if desired by the club. Clubs trying to stay near the cap floor can of course have the entire salary apply to the cap total. 3. Increase the team roster to 25 and increase the number if contracts to 56. 4. Injured players can retire with full payment of their contract that only affects the cap the year they were injured. However they may not return from retirement untill that original contract length has ended. ....to be continued
