I want to see a Sorokin vs Fedotov battle!!!

If we get to see that i will defiantly tune in!!!

The dude will get an ovation when he takes the ice. We will reincarnate Nikita Kruschchev to officiate. He will use a skate to bash heads of guilty players.

If he's ready why not? Ersson is obvious burnt out. He's making the easy saves but not enough of the tougher ones. I like Ersson a lot. I believe he's got a great NHL career ahead of him. This year he's had to face too much too soon.

I wonder. In some circles it's all Tortorella's fault. He wore them out; it was inevitable; his style is just too demanding. 🤮 is what I think of that.

I'll never blame a coach for trying to win games. With the limited talent Tortorella's got I'm amazed they came this far. POs or no POs to me this year is a huge success.

For now it's everybody pulling on the rope - every night every shift, night in night out. It's physically taxing, mentally exhausting and the only way to get relief is to play better. It's a tough ask; some guys really resent it. You're already wiped out and the coach is yelling "you need to be better." Later on you realize (hopefully) that your legs really are lighter in the O zone, when you're attacking, when you're in control, and scoring goals is the best medicine after all, especially for "a demoralized squad." It's the constant defending, chasing the game that's what kills you and the team.

    Flyers 5 Islanders 2.

Grateful:  I hope they get their bleep together tomorrow night.  Watching another demolition is no fun.  And for their sakes, it would be a great training to make the playoffs.  I hope it hasn't become a bridge too far.

  3. Greetings:

The Flyers are a mild favorite (-115) despite this sportsbook's model giving the Isles a 51 percent win probability:

    https://www.dimers.com/bet-hub/nhl/schedule/2023_175_phi_nyi

There isn't much to separate these teams statistically, and they've split the season's prior two games:

One observation:  Both Sorokin and Varlamov have save percentages over .900; the same can't be said for Sam Errson.  Will the Big Russian get surprise start as a pick-me-up for a demoralized squad?

The Flyers are following the Eagles playbook down the stretch.

Yep! Sad. I agree with @flyercanuck that exhaustion may be setting in. Torts said it will be a team meeting but no practice tomorrow.  He seemed pretty down himself in the post-game presser. He had no excuses and wasn't even combative with the reporters. He spoke to high minutes and mistakes of his top D pairing but was clear that applied universally.

Putting aside lack of depth and exhaustion, Morganti was spot on with the PP. The incompetence costs games.

And I don't think the Captain can be  Primeau and take the team on his shoulders. He looks out of it offensively.

Sandstrom although his play has been poor and unreliable and in general unlikeable, although I’m sure he’s a good guy

Well, he may be a very good guy.  But after 30 NHL games, the numbers aren't very impressive:

    https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=176325

4-18-4, 3.66 GAA, .880 Save Percentage.  Granted, he wasn't playing for the greatest of teams, and often got the second of back-to-backs, but there's probably enough games to sense he should move on.

  6. Well, if Sandy is off the roster, we are getting an unsurprising signal--his days with the parent club are nearing their end.  On a larger note, when posting the game threads, I seldom see other rosters with starting goalies under .900 save percentage.  That doesn't apply to the Flyers.  And on a broader note, our plus/minus differential is heading south.

Is this the Kiss of Death for the Flyers? Probably not. Last night wasn't about being favored it was being unprepared (or unwilling) to give100% effort the way they usually do. And Primeau played really well.

Yeah the Flyers' PP is the real Kiss of Death. They don't give up a ton of shorties but that's about the only good thing you can say about it.

I'd love to see Foerster (19 goals) get a HT, pass Bedard (21) and Rossi (20) for rookie goal-scoring.

I caught the last half last night.  They woke up in the last 10-15 mins, and it was too late.  As for the PP--I guess next season is repair time.  I have a feeling it is beyond repair this season.  Foerster is waking up.  We will have fun watching him in coming years.  On the other hand--Atkinson is a spent force, and two of the YouTube "content creators" were commenting on Coots' looking tired.  Yeah...nearly eight million for a fourth line center....yeah, baby!

  8. Greetings:

The O and B are heavily favored (-244):

    https://www.oddsshark.com/nhl/chicago-philadelphia-odds-march-30-2024-2020589

Given our performance in Montreal, that scares me--I think we play better as the underdog.

The Blackhawks are offensively and defensively challenged, and their PP is almost as bad as ours:

    https://www.nhl.com/gamecenter/chi-vs-phi/2024/03/30/2023021173

We beat them in February, 3-1, in Chicago.  Historically, this has been a very home-based series, particularly for the Flyers:

    https://www.flyershistory.com/cgi-bin/opponent.cgi?Chicago_Blackhawks

Let's hope for urgency on the O and B's part.  And maybe, just maybe, we score on a power play.

That trade is looking better all the time!

I started the thread with my concern about the Flyers as favorite. Psychologically, that gives them license to underperform. That tells me they lack swagger. Attard and Ginning have played well on D. Torts had multiple kudos post-game. Seeler and Drydale are part of the problem. But I think this team has to come out swinging, and they need a better PP. It is a momentum killer that's losing them games.
