  1. Well in all honesty about Schenn, I don't think we have seen him used in the right applications in the NHL. For the most part, he has played 3rd or 4th line and that is not going to be conducive to an offensive players game. Between that and injuries ( he has already drawn his lion's share of those), he has not been given a real chance. I just hope that he does not become the next Patrick Sharp/ Justin Williams/ Danius Zubrus/ Vaclav Prospal/ Chris Versteeg/ Dennis Siedenberg , all players who did not quite fit here or were not given a chance to show their true abilities but shined when given a chance elsewhere.
  2. @brelic My sentiments exactly with regards to Walker. Lilja might actually be claimed off of waivers going down or up. His salary is reasonable for what he is and if the Flyers are carrying half of his salary as a cost to open up a roster spot, that is reasonable. The problem with Shelley is no one will pick him up in either direction. His contract still baffles me to this day.........He is always going to hold a roster spot until his contract expires, there is just no way around that.
  3. Walker has to be gone ( traded or waived) for salary reasons alone...1.7mil for a 7th d-man....sorry, no thank you.....
  4. As much as I hate to say it, I think injuries have really exacerbated the problems in Buffalo this season. That is not saying Ruff does not need to go (You have already turned over better than 80 percent of your team in the last few years),coach and gm change is the next logical step for an owner who wants to see a return on his purchase. As a philly fan I prefer him where he is at, keeping the Sabres angry and unfocused.
  5. Well you could use his -6 in playoffs to say he has done something...............
  6. I am good with that for the most part but you still need to plan like you are going to lose at least one of the three (Carle, Bourdon, Marshall). Grossman would be a solid d-man with a little more experience than Both Marshall and Bourdon for the post season too. I do not count Walker, who will be a phantom again if he is not soon moved or Lilja who at 735k might even be picked up on the way down through waivers(after he is healthy again) for a team needing a 7th dman.
  7. I said he might not be a bad rental due to the fact that Pronger is out indefinately, Carle is UFA next season, Bourdon and Marshal are both RFA. I really could care less about Lilja who will be gone and Walker needs to be gone. At least it will be safe to waive him back to the phantoms...no one in their right mind wants to pay him 1.7 mil a yr next year. Trading for Grossman could help the Flyers when it comes time to sign players like Bourdon and Marshall too.
  8. 1) Lack of Love for Walker is that he is way overpaid for a # 7 defenseman which is giving more credit than he deserves. On the depth chart of Flyers Defense, he is below everyone but Lilja at this point and that makes him 9th....... 2)Lilja is Horrible! He is constantly out of position or gets caught standing flat footed. He is the reincarnation of Tollefson. 3)Marshal has been playing better of late and Bourdon has looked like he has belonged since his second game up. Both of those guys are looking like keepers. Pronger needs to start playing way less minutes,Timmo too, if they want to still be playing until the ends of their respective contracts.
  9. depending on what the cost for him is, he would not be a bad rental even if they did not re-sign him. He sounds like a 3/4 defenseman which means a substantial pay raise to keep him. What is Dallas going to be looking for in return? that is the big question....
  10. That surprises me a little because of the fact that Read pretty much seemed to ignore the elbow. If intent is being used for suspensions, then Malkin's stick work on Giroux at the end of the game should be suspension worthy too......
  11. I never heard of the guy.......... sar·casm    [sahr-kaz-uhm] Show IPA noun 1. harsh or bitter derision or irony. 2. a sharply ironical taunt; sneering or cutting remark: a review full of sarcasms.
  12. No injury to Read so probably no suspension but I am sure it will be sighted if he has any more plays similar to that one. If he had followed through with that elbow it would be a different story as opposed to just brushing him like he did.
  13. I watched the playback on it a few times before it really stood out. Miller pulled his head out of the mask but he seemed to be under the impression the puck was covered and did not want it dug out while he was out of position.
  14. Overall, the Sabres Defense was was solid with the exception of Erhoff. He was a turnover machine and if he had a chance to screw up a play last night he did. What was your take on Miller's "mask" issues? He certainly seemed to have as much trouble keeping it on his head as Hartnell has keeping his balance on his skates......
  15. For the amount of rookies on the ice and missing Pronger, the Flyers looked pretty good (at least after the first period). Bryz made some amazing stops but he left in some weak ones too....again. Overall, I think Bryz is starting to play better but his current level of play is not where it should be. Buffalo showed a lot of jump and other than Erhoff, they might have won that game. He was awful last night...I am still wondering if that was really BEHOLD, RANDY!!! in Erhoff's sweater........
  16. Gerbe absolutely knew that Bourdon was coming. He INTENTIONALLY kept his back turned to avoid the hit. The fact of the matter is Bourdon still hit him and should not have. If Gerbe is not playing with the skate cut injury from his own team mate, this would have been a minor penalty at best. If he played for Boston, this is a non issue but because he is a Flyer, he will probably get 2 games even though he only deserves a warning. Intent to injure, not even close. Record of dirty/cheap hits, nope. Young guy in the league who Shanahan wants to send a message to, you bet cha sweet ass............
  17. My same thoughts ted...I just posted that in the Miller loses his mask way to easy thread.......
  18. I just got off work and watched the game....the first time his own team mate pulled it off to stop play and Miller took a puck in the noggin for the trouble. The second one, he had no one at all on the right side of the ice(Miller's left) so he tilted his head and shucked the mask to stop play. Both times it was entirely intentional and a good ploy for stopping play if it works. He is lucky he only got a scratch from the Hartnell PUCK not stick to the face. It is something that needs to be looked at and if it is as intentional as both of those plays looked, he should get a 2 minute delay of game penalty. What he is doing is the equivalent of shooting the puck off the ice to give his team a chance to reset and get in position.
  19. I did not say the league was trying to end/ban fighting. I said they are starting to discourage the use of enforcers through the tools they already have in hand. If you ban fighting all together, the inevitable bad blood boil over between a rivalry will end up in an uncontrollable donnybrook with all parties involved and no way that the refs on the ice can hope to control it. Something that would actually help is getting rid of the instigator penalty. Then the cheap shot guys like Cook, Avery, Tootoo, Torres would have to answer the bell for playing over the edge. The league is protecting their play with the instigator penalty.
  20. I also think there should be some kind of system for the refs that punishes them(monetarily) for some of the horrible officiating. I am not talking about one or two bad calls, but consistently poor officiating needs to be addressed( see Devorski/Koharski/Hebert and a few others) for examples.
  21. I don't know that you can do away with fighting in hockey. The need for self policing is always right there beneath the surface. I do not see the need for a guy who is nothing but an enforcer on the ice either. It would be easy enough to weed them out of the league using the rules they already have in place and if you watch Shelley and the penalties he draws(on himself), it is evident that they are already are sending a not so subtle message to the NHL level teams.
  22. I have been amazed by Jagr's output so far. I figured he would be an OK 2nd liner when the signed him...boy am I glad to eat crow on that one.
  23. What you are really trying to say is the Pens were too cap strapped to offer him fair market value......
  24. On the Briere call, it was an errant stick off his helmet, not his face. Briere definitely sold that call. I dislike when players do that, even if they are wearing the O&B. Who was it recently that knocked out a couple of Talbot's teeth out right in front of the ref with no call? The NHL as a whole would do themselves a favor by reviewing questionable calls and fining the divers.
  25. Well he had 4 goals and 3 assists and was a plus 4 (FWIW) in the 09/10 playoffs. Played 23 games in the playoffs so I don't think he was a scratch. Pretty good numbers for a 4th liner......Jody Shelley on the other hand, had 2 goals and 2 assists for the WHOLE season. Yeah, I think I can confidently say Asham was not moved for his lack of performance.....
