  1. Another way to look at it though is that the combined salary of Mason/Bryz is actually pretty reasonable for starter/backup combo, so what does it matter who the actual starter is? If we're paying 7.5 mil for our 2 goalies but our expensive goalie is on the bench, I got no problem with that. Also, Bryz's value has never been lower, but if he manages to have a big bounce back year next year, more options open up - if he is playing REALLY well, then myabe keep him, if he is playing well enough to attract interest from another team, then move him. (Obvioulsy I have zero faith that this scenario would actually take place, but it is possible.)
  2. The other side of this system prevents a truly bad team fromfaling too far from a top spot. How pissed would you be if you were Florida or Colorado and slipped all the way from the top pick to the 10th pick in a lottery and a team that really didnt need nearly as much help as you got the top pick?
  3. I think a team can only win the lottery and the first pick or nothing at all, so say we finish with the 8th pick, we either win the lottery and pick first or we stay in 8th *unless a higher pick wins the lottery and bumps everyone back one spot in which case we get bumped to ninth. Note that with the Flyers luck I fully excpect the latter scenario to happen.
  4. might as well throw Pronger on that list for good measure!
  5. Fair enough. I think those of us who have seen a bit of Laughton (not that I've followed him for very long) have seen a lot of potential in skill development to go along with a ton of heart.
  6. I think you missed my point. I just think it is early to be evaluating Laughton's ceiling. But ur right, if I'm Florida I dont do that trade.
  7. I think many people would have said the same thing about Kunitz years ago. (referring to how he has worked his way up to being a top line forward, not necessarily the players position on the ice.) You never know what a player will develop into until you get him some minutes and some talent to play with to build his confidence. Kunitz is now playing at a level of 1st or 2nd line forward, irrespective of who is on his line.
  8. Oh good, I get to win an argument with a Pens fan now! (It's all I got since my team has crapped the ice this year.) Is the word "ever" a negative in Pittsburgh? Because I believe that everywhere else in the free world it a just an adjective of time and has no positive or negative meaning. So your sentence - "the Flyers can never ever never have a 2nd round pick in any draft." would translate to "the Flyers can never, in any amount of time, occassionally not have a 2nd round draft pick in any draft." So no, that is not a triple negative, hence a positive. I will be scanning all of your other posts for grammatical errors. As I said, it's all I got right now.
  9. Good positioning and hope the puck hits you is about the only thing a goalie can do in that situation. By the time he finds the puck coming through the defense there typically is not enough time to make a reaction save. I disagree with you about the D-man though. As a denseman, if you know that a forward is going to use you as a screen for a shot, you have 2 choices - do your darnedest to block the shot OR let your goalie see the shot. Standing upright continuing to track backwards with the forward is the worst thing you can do in that situation.
  10. What are these 2nd round picks that you speak of? Never heard of them. And does your double negative mean that the Flyers will actually get one of these mysterious and magical 2nd round picks?
  11. Well, we have 41 pts with 5 to play. We need to lose the next 2 games (NJ and NC) in regulation to give us a good shot a finishing below them and if we lose a couple of our other games we still have a shot of finshing in the bottom 5. I think the bottom 3 is probably out of reach now but I never really thought we'd get there anyhow. I think we will finish low enough that if need be, Homer will do what it takes to trade down to get the guy he wants.
  12. Damn!! Playing Gervais was giving us a legit shot at a top 3 pick!
  13. I would encourage you not to do this as it will only fuel your anger as it does mine. I watched a little yesterday and a little today. I'll probablt check back in tonight to see if there is any updates and prgress in finding those responsible, but watching that foorage over and over again isnt good for any of us. It only deepens our secondary trauma and our anger. It also deepens our sadness but that is a very necessary emotion to feel right now.
  14. Just when you think we have seen the lowest in human kind some piece of human garbage takes it down another notch. Apparently the little boy was a huge Bruins fan - I am so glad that he got to experience the thrill and joy of his team raising the Stanley Cup before his life was cut so tragically short.
  15. After seeing pictures of the victims of yesterday's bombing, especially of the 8 year old boy that was killed, I have so much anger and hatred in my heart that in my opinion if we ever catch who is responsible for this alive, torture with the highest level of excruciating pain for the longest possible duration until death seems the only appropriate punishment. Today, I wish our country believed in and practiced those techniques. "Tomorrow" I may not feel that way, but that is how I feel today. (Thanks for letting me vent some of my anger.)
  16. The fact that potential NHL goalies dont want anything to do with the Flyers surprises you? This franchise has mismanaged their goalies for 20 years! If I were a goalie, the Flyers are the last place I would look to sign.
  17. Look at it this way - this is the best year to have crapper season. This season is a joke and should never have been played in the first place. I couldnt give squirt of piss about this season and think it is an insult to the greatest trophy in sports to hand out the Cup this year. So in my eyes, we sacrifice a meaningless season but still have one of the best drafts in recent memory and I think this team has a nice bounce back next year (not necessarily due to the draft) and have great young core to build with. If we can draft well and keep the core in tact, I think our beloved Flyers could be REALLY strong in a couple of years.
  18. how on earth do you blame that goal on Mason?? It was a fluke goal. It happens.
  19. The draft reports I have read say that the top of the draft consist of players that could have a very quick impact on the NHL. Obviously that is subjective and surely you would think it would take most of them a year or two at least to get there feet, but this is a draft that hopefully eases the pain of a terrible season that shouldnt have ever been played in the first place.
  20. This smells of a heavily acohol influenced post.
  21. Here's a thought.... if the Flyers amnesty Briere and buy him out to the tune of 3.3 mil, does that money count against our cap? If not, what is to say that the Flyers couldnt just resign him to a much more manageable cap hit? I think he's got a couple good playoff runs left in him and he would probably take a home town discount to keep his family (kids) rooted and could retire a Flyer?
