The Flyers are not playing well right now, to be sure. Except for that second period in last night's game, where we were all over them and just didn't score. Last time I checked, the Isles are a pro hockey team made up of pro hockey players of various talent and character. They are well-coached. Probably one of the best coached. 

 

So the line between winning and losing is very thin. Let's just calm down a bit. It's exhausting walking up to the ledge and back again every game, every shift.

I'm calm.  I predicted Islanders in 6 and I'll stick to it.  I'm just shaking my head at posters underestimating the Islanders.  They were one of the best teams in hockey through the first half until they got hit with a couple key injuries.  I wish the Flyers played with half their grit and skating.

I will say that Varlamov looked mortal last night; he gave up a several big rebounds but no Flyers were ever in position to get them, which, again, is one of the Islanders' strengths.

Also, despite the Flyers controlling play in the second, I only recall about 2 real chances from in close.  Everything else was way outside.

And lol that we'll throw in JVR to sweeten the pot.  That's like trying to trade-in a used Lumina and saying I'll throw in my non-running Yugo to sweeten the deal.

Sure didn't look like MTL was desperate for defense to me.  If they were, why would they want Ghost?  He plays offense, not defense.

Ghost is terrible.  Guy can't defend at all.  If they start cycling him he is useless.

One thing that gives me hope is that the Capitals didn't worry me at all.   They are a shell of their former selves and Holtby has been terrible, so maybe the Islanders' 4-1 series win doesn't say much at all.

The Islanders are very, very tough.  We might have the edge in goal and maybe on D, but they play Trotz' system to the T, which can make up for it.  They have the edge at forward and they play harder more consistently.   If I had to bet, I would guess Islanders in 6.  Hope to be wrong.

Pitlick I could see, but Grant may get paid more than he is worth.  At $700k he is a bargain.  He had 15 goals this year in a shortened season so you could end up paying $1.5M per year for multiple years for a guy who may never score like that again.  I think you rely on guys like Bunnaman to  pick up any slack and reassess mid-year.

Sorry, but officiating has been fine and a complete non-factor.

I want to give a shoutout to the under-appreciated Raffl.  He does it all: plays extremely hard, kills penalties, blocks shots, plays up and down the line up (and wing to wing), can play a power offensive game,  and scored a sweet goal.

Vigneault mixed all of the lines, huh?  And sat JVR?  He ain't foolin'!

They look a lot better.  Couturier should have had one there.

Sure, I could see getting a 2nd and 3rd, maybe a little more, for G.  You're not getting a proven young player for G or for a 2nd and 3rd as others seem to think.

Picks and prospects you are supposedly going to get for players (G, Voracek, JVR) we don't want anymore.

All I'm saying is, you trade Giroux, Voracek and JVR, you're not getting "young proven pieces".  Period.

Flyers fans are the worst.  They want to blow up the team, but think they will get gold back in return for the very guys they want gone.

Can we end the ghost experiment?  We don't need an undersized forward playing defense.

Yo, meme, boy:  fortuitous in that the "best" team in the conference just may have lost their best defensemen on the way to a 0-2 period.

That might have been the best/most fortuitous period of Flyers hockey I've seen in 25 years.

I would have one of our 4th liners take a wack at the back of the leg of McAvoy to send a message.  

That didn't look good for Raffl.

No team can afford to pay $4.5M to their 7th D.  Even if he would be a 5th or 6th D on another team, I don't see anyone giving up more than a 3rd for Ghost at this point. I would take that because I don't see him ever equaling his 1st or 3rd seasons again.
