  1. wow glad I went out instead of watching that turd of a game... I saw 5-1 and figured it was prob 3-1 with a couple EN tacked on. Not so, 5 legit goals and Bedard without any. Joey Anderson for chrissakes the guy hasn't scored since like November. well this is supposed to be an evaluating year so maybe we found Ersson's limit...30-35 games maybe? OTOH he is a rookie and this has been a trial-by-fire for him, more so than for the rest I guess. Flyers lose 5-1 at home to Chicago ... when every point ... blahblahblah... Well maybe they'll find their 2nd-wind in time who knows...
  2. missed shots and turnovers... the Flyers again don't look ready to play... not in sync with each other at all.
  3. Pardon me I'm twitter-illiterate does the "aha" at the end mean this a joke? I can't believe the Flyers need to win out just to get the 8 seed. Or maybe he's saying if the Caps and the Wings both win all their remaining games the Flyers need to do the same, and if they do they get the 8 seed? But can he do better? Will his body cooperate? I think you're right to say Couturier's not "washed up" but for me it's more of a hope than a conviction. After a grueling camp then 70+ NHL games under Tortorella his body may be telling him "stop!" He could be washed up. If he finishes his career the way he started, a solid 2-way 3C who occasionally skates against top lines, kills penalties, wins important draws - the Flyers will get their money's worth out of Couturier - or maybe "break even" we can say. Nothing but a miracle resurgence will ever justify his contract. If the Flyers get 18mins a night out of him as a defensive forward that's probably the best we can hope. But that's not a given and won't be a cake walk for Couturier. There's already guys on the roster better suited for 3C. Poehling and Cates are both better skaters and are not far behind Couturier defensively.
  4. Is this the Kiss of Death for the Flyers? Probably not. Last night wasn't about being favored it was being unprepared (or unwilling) to give100% effort the way they usually do. And Primeau played really well. Yeah the Flyers' PP is the real Kiss of Death. They don't give up a ton of shorties but that's about the only good thing you can say about it. I'd love to see Foerster (19 goals) get a HT, pass Bedard (21) and Rossi (20) for rookie goal-scoring.
  5. The Canadians deserve some credit - about 20% IMHO - Flyers are just lifeless...
  6. Well that was one of the worst periods the Flyers have played all year. PK still struggling gives up the first goal...Standing around, letting the Habs just run through them...2-0... now another penalty ... Attard trips up his man on the wall. Flyers aren't skating - bound to take penalties. edit: 30 minutes into the game Flyers have 7 SOG. But I won't be surprised if they come back to win it ...
  7. After LOL I thought of the deal Briere made with Owen Tippett this year... made me appreciate it all the more. It could've been another Skinner. To be fair (IIRC) Skinner got his $72mil after the 40-goal season - the only 40-goal season so far. Maybe it's a blessing the Flyers only had Couturier and Frost dealing to Tippett this year. Flyers' fans have renamed it Tortorella hockey this year. It's probably fair but is it a knock? I'm not sure. Can teams sustain their style into the POs? Is the stamina required unrealistic? It's an interesting question. I don't know if there is an answer. So much goes into winning the Cup...
  8. obviously you don't like the guy - that's okay of course. But after the shorty the Rags scored last night you posted something like "Ersson sucks" (paraphrasing) - on a perfect saucer pass across where NO goalie unless it's pure luck makes that save... Tortorella has Ersson and Sandstrom plus flunky or 2 in Lehigh. How is he playing favorites with his goaltenders? This is interesting but I admit I don't understand it. Maybe you will elaborate?
  9. actually I hit the Uggh! icon... for all the reasons @CoachX has said. Changing HC now, after the year they had, looking forward to maybe the POs, certainly to next season... Unless Tortorella quits changing coaches would be the height of stupidity by Flyers' management. Not putting it past them but I sure hope they don't. Let him coach till the contract is over - 2 more years.
  10. Definitely. and some others too who stood out - Tippett of course for the goals, TK for finally getting back to his game ... and your fav and mine Morgan Frost! lol... what can you say the kid deserves praise he's been all over it every night. I don't love seeing him go in alone with 3 defenders stacked on the blue line but he's around 50% or better at getting through and making a play - whereas before he almost never maintained possession. It's getting to the point where his line / whoever he's skating with - they need to keep up with him instead of the other way around. I admit I didn't see that coming...
  11. Brad Shaw is acknowledged around the league as a talented coach. Tortorella gives him credit for Zamula's development and York's - and that's saying a lot. But why do the Flyers need to change coach? If Tortorella wants out that's one thing but I hope nobody is thinking of changing coaches until Tortorella's had enough of the Flyers ... or the Flyers have had enough of him.
  12. yep. And it’s out of character for Tortorella he’s been preaching “safe is death” or something like that all year. the Rags are 8-1 in OT this year for obvious reasons but keeping your goal scorers on the bench is like handing it to them. You’ll never stop their best with the Flyers’ best defensive forwards, not with that much open ice. The only chance is to win the draw and then attack the net.
  13. It’s ALL about puck possession in OT you have to put your best FO man out there… otherwise…duh. You don’t touch the puck and it’s over. Stupid.
  14. Yeah plus Poehling was gimpy on that last shift in the 3rd no way he should been out there. Loses the draw….Couturier your best FO man watches from the bench.. Someone has to ask Tortorella WTF?
  15. Rangers 7-1 in OT Flyers 5-6… Make that 8-1. Damn! Flyers don’t touch the puck once and it’s Game Over. 3-on-3 OT is a joke.
  16. 7 … wow… wild game love it! Love it even more if the Flyers can WIN it
  17. I agree Mojo up until that one. Lafrieniere’s 2nd ….their 5th Ersson just unprepared . Great block off the initial shot by TK I think and it looked like Ersson relaxed wasn’t ready for Lafrieniere to shoot. edit okay Flyers one more …..YES,!! They score! Foerster beautiful follow-up tap-in.
  18. yah it sucks the ref bought that head fake... terrible overacting and the ref still bought it. Trocha should've got embellish call ...
  19. Let's hope so...Ersson in net is a good start but the Rangers have the Flyers' number.
  20. Haha so true! Soon as he's off the ice they score... sure why not Reinhardt gets his 50th... I hate to blame the goalie when you only score 1 goal but if Sandstrom makes that first save...feels like this was a winnable game with better goaltending.
  21. Verhaeghe scores the backbreaker- and it's another one "Sandstrom would like to have back" ... 2 soft goals out of 3 ... Meanwhile the Flyers keep missing the net every other shot... if they hit the cage Stolarz comes up with a big save. Frustrating game... edit: PP goal 6-on-4 ... nice to get one but it feels like Sandstrom will give up another softie before it's over. OMG Poehling wide open net ... unbelievable . That was the story of the Flyers' night in one play right there.
  22. What a surprise...Sandstrom "would like to have that one back" ... hopefully that's the only softie today but I wouldn't bet on it. Great to see Foerster go right at Tkachuk for that cheapshot trip after the horn. edit: Oh jeez they can't be serious - a Cats' PP after Tkachuk started the whole thing? That's is some shabby officiating. And Tarasenko scores .... love the Power Kill but sometimes ... burned them on that one...
  23. heard a bit of the studio guys postgame yesterday and both Hartnell and the other guy said "you have to" start Ersson today. I don't doubt he gives the Flyers a better chance than Sandstrom but I'd be surprised if it's Ersson again.
