  1. @GreenMan. Yes, to me Carle + Bob > Bryz.. Without Bryz and his contract the Flyers could have kept Carle and have had more money to sign a FA this off season. Just my opinion. Agreed though he is not the next Brodeur. Either way, what is done is done.
  2. @TedZep. Sorry not trying to compare. I just like Bob's storey. A young undrafted kid playing in Russia comes over to the Flyers, learns englight, goes from a #1 to a #2 , get married to his russian girlfriedn (if I remember correctly) then traded to Columbus. I think it is a good storey and I always liked his attitude playing with the Flyers.
  3. I think it was a hockey hit. Listening to Steve Weeks on the hockey channel and that is exactly what he said. I am fine to see if differently than most here. I will be interested to see what happens as I don't think this is a slam dunk suspension but I've been wrong before.
  4. I wish the Flyers had stuck it out with Bob; but this is not a thread about bemoaning trades using hindsight.. But like so many ex-Flyers it looks like he is having some recent success and I am happy for him. I might have to watch a Blue Jackets game just because I am curious to see him play. From NHL.com Who's hot: Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky was brilliant again Thursday, stopping 39 of 40 shots over 65 minutes. Over his past seven starts he's 5-0-2 and has allowed one goal or fewer six times, including two shutouts. His save percentage is an eye-catching .971 over that span.
  5. AMEN! Carle logged the most minutes of anybody last year. But they give Kimmo, as good as a defenseman he was, more money on a 1 year deal.
  6. Gus being that guy would be huge. Being a GM is managing a game of assets. We traded assets to get Pronger and Carle and got no return. That is a capital loss that is to be carried forword. Hopefully Gus can be our capital gain. It certainly would help.
  7. On the first goal Couterier sent a soft backhanded pass through the middle of the neutral zone that was easily picked off. He is just as much to blame. The rest is history. OP- good post.
  8. Well, 5-1 in the 3rd for NJ and the Flyers have nothing. What can you do? A lot has been said about trading Briere and Kimmo and that is fine enough - don't know if it will happen. Most are calling for Bryz to go but some, self included, see there is no viable alternative. A lot want to run Cobourn out of town but I disagree - look at what happened when the Flyers did that to Carle. Honestly the Pronger trade/injury combined with letting Carle go has set this team back a couple of years. Injuries happen - tough to swallow but it is part of the game. I wouldn't mind the Flyers making a commitment to a semi-rebuild. I don't think the flyers need to clean everything out. But I think the Flyers will need to get worse to get better and that is a bitter pill. Yes I still think there is room to get worse. But you know what? It is not the end of the world. If it means I get to see the Flyers lift the cup in my lifetime then I am ok with it.
  9. Reading Meltzer is a morning tradition for me. Grab a coffee and read what is really going on with the flyers. It sure is a treat to have somebody like him writing on the Flyers. Having this forum with most of the old philly.com posters is pretty nice too.
  10. @BearOnIce I agree, however from the Owner's point of view I would want to put out the best product I could every year and try to win the cup. If not for the fans but for the $$$ - it is an entainment business. Anyway I believe Snider painted Homer in this corner so he had to make the Bryz deal. But back to the point of the tread, I don't have a problem with what Bryz said. Hopefully it can light some fires. Can't wait for tonight.
  11. honestly I dont' have a problem with what he said. In fact it is about time somebody stood up and faced facts. Just my opinion.
  12. Well we wouldn't have had today's defense as Bryz wouldn't have been signed to there would have been more money to keep Carle so who knows. Nonetheless i was a Bob fan and though the team went the wrong direction. If so this was because of Snyder not Holmgren.
  13. How can the GM take away Jagr and Carle and expect the team to be better? We complain about the defense and Carle logged the most of any dman last year. The GM has set this team up like this it should not be the coach's fault or at least not entirely.
  14. I know this thread is about Bryz but I am surpirsed I have not seen Emery's name as a possible replacement. Guy is having a great year as a "backup". Anyway, the Flyers simply don't have the assets, contract space, etc. to rebuild the d and g positions in one year. I think we are stuck with Bryz for another year. It is what it is. FYI I would have signed Dan Ellis before Boucher or Leighton. Water under the bridge now.
  15. @rad Was the caps player not trying to score? Was he not trying to make a move? If so that means the whitsle had not gone yet and he is fair game - period. If he didn't want to be hit he should have just dumped it in. Why should the flyers have to throtle back if the caps are not? I see no problem with a clean hit between the whitstles. I think we will need to dissagree. Cheers.
  16. We have Bryz with a star wars mask. The force is strong with this one. Need no back up, the Flyers do.
  17. Because Pierre is a moron. A nice guy but a moron nonetheless.
  18. I didn't know Bill O'Reilly was played hockey. Do you think Fox can let him go?
  19. He was in great defensive position all night long. He was always in a position for the dman to make an easy break out pass. The 3rd line played well and was good to see.
  20. Just waiting for the new line combination post in 3...2...1...
  21. now he just needs a mighty ducks helmet? Or what about Bob the builder? <- just in case it wasn't obvious
