  1. First, let me say I'm not anti-Hart.  I believe Hart is and will be the goalie for the Flyers for the next decade.

That being said, games are running out in this shortened season and the Flyers need to put out their best team every night.

We all know that Moose is subject to injury the more he plays but maybe it's time to start giving Moose 2 out of 3 games moving forward until Hart's game comes back.

  2. I've got a question for anybody that wants to answer about the upcoming seasons and defense.

    9 Ivan Provorov - 53 Shayne Gostisbehere
    6 Travis Sanheim - 61 Justin Braun
    8 Robert Hägg - 5 Phil Myers

There are players that have a more realistic chance to stick around.  So here's my order from most to least important:

Provorov, Myers, Sanheim, Ghost, Braun, Hagg

Coming up is Zamula and York for sure.   Wylie, Millman?

    1) What's the realistic timeframe we see Zamula and York?

    2) Who do they replace?   Can York come in and replace Ghost in 2 years?   Zamula takes Hagg's spot?  Next year?

For my money, Farabee is untouchable.  The guy is going to be a star

Star eh?  🤨   I was tough on him in the beginning of the season and @flyercanuck said he was coming along nicely.  FC was right, I was wrong.  He is progressing better than I thought.   Star though?  I sure hope you are right.  He's got a shot that's for sure.

  4. I saw it talked about in another thread and thought it deserved it's own thread.  There is some rumors around a possible trade for the Preds Ekholm.  This article talks about three options:  https://www.ontheforecheck.com/2021/2/22/22294487/nashville-predators-trade-rumor-mattias-ekholm-philadelphia-flyers-boston-bruins-carolina-hurricanes

    Quote

Trade 1: Erik Gustafsson, Morgan Frost, a 2022 first-round pick and 2021 conditional second-rounder for Ekholm (the condition being related to playoff wins and having the option to turn into a first-rounder).

Trade 2: Scott Laughton, Nolan Patrick and a 2021 second-round pick, with Nashville retaining a bit of Ekholm’s salary.

Trade 3: Shayne Gostisbehere, a 2022 first and 2021 conditional second for Ekholm

    IMO....

    Trade #1 is a non-starter.  Frost shouldn't be involved

    Trade #2 is interesting but a over-payment
Trade #3 I would definitely think long & hard about.

If they're going to keep playing these gimmick games just make it ALL gimmick. 3 hours of shootouts on outdoor rinks...last goal wins!  If it's cloudy that day just give fans laser pointers to aim in the players eyes.

It needs to stop.  Isn't the point of this whole charade to bring in the 'casual' viewer?   People that wouldn't normally watch a game?    Well, if I was a casual watcher and I tried to watch the first period I would have turned it off in the first 5 minutes.  You couldn't see the puck at all.  It was dumb.  /rant

Foerester , Ratcliffe, Allison, Laberge and Brink

    Foerester, Ratcliffe, Brink and York.

That's 4 that I think have the best shot at filtering in within the next 1-3 years.    Foerester and Ratcliffe's shooting/scoring abilities are much needed.   York will help on the back end.   Brink should bring some gritty-ness.

Remember not to long ago when we had a Captain who played like this.

I still get goosebumps from watching this.  I miss that team.

Did you notice who is screening the goalie on Coburn's shot then comes all the way back behind the goal line, makes the pass for the primary assist?   Without our current captain, Richard's doesn't make that play.   Just saying.

They’ve been outshot in 8 of 10 games. They are winning games when they aren’t playing their best.  I’ll take it.  Maybe this is an effect of not having any preseason games.  We are in for a treat if they start playing with a little more consistency and getting more shots.

That's the thing. good teams find ways to win even when they aren't playing their best. And clearly they aren't playing their best however we've seen it in flashes over the past two games. With Boston next this is where they could turn it around.

That may have been the ugliest, least deserved win I've ever seen the Flyers get. Everyone sucked except Hart and Prosser. I don't think I've seen worse passing at any level.

     It's a win...we'll take it. They can't play worse than that...can they?

I thought the 2nd Boston game was worse passing.  Guess we have different eyes.   Good to get the points.  Saturday might be ugly.

  10. If not for the crossbar it would have been an OT game.  There were some sustained periods of actual Flyers hockey but it wasn't looking good in the first period.  2nd was better and they held their own in the 3rd.

I don't understand their breakouts.  Hagg/Braun/Freidman and even Sanheim on occasion were just throwing it up the boards for a turnover way to often.  There was one controlled breakout that looked good and even JJ/Jones said something like "That's the way you do it".  The fact that there are that few decent breakouts is concerning.   I'm assuming that's just not following AV's system?   Is it them still getting their legs?   Concerning nevertheless.   Maybe it really easy they aren't in form yet because the dump and chase they excelled at last year isn't resulting in sustained pressure this year - yet.

I know I'm all alone on this but I'm still not sold on Farabee.  A majority of his goals are either open nets where others do the work or it hits off him.   I'm aware that he needs to be in the right spot, get to the dirty areas and all those other hockey words.  But I've still not seen him create for his line mates.  Which is fine but if you don't create you need to be a finisher.   And I haven't seen that yet either.   I know he's young and has only played 59 games in the NHL.   I'm totally routing for the kid and want him to succeed but all I'm saying is I don't see what other see - yet.     /rant
