There's a kernel of truth in what you're saying... ;-)
lol..good one
-
If i am GM would go for solid physical defenceman Volchenkov type of player.
What about Bourdon, Marshall, and Walker?
-
right now he's getting paid NHL dollars to eat popcorn in the press box
I hear he's very good at eating popcorn though..
-
It doesn't make much sense to pay him his full salary to play in the NHL either.
So your going to pay him 1.1 million to play for the Phantoms?

Shelley doesn't have a 2 way contract, therefor the Flyers would have to pay him his full salary to play in the AHL, which really wouldn't make much sense..
-
Of course they can score.
Jody Shelley scored two goals in a game once. True Story.
Then Homer gave him a 3-year, $3.3M contract...
But did he do a toe drag backhander?

Good trade for both I think. Johnson is a solid top 4 dman with a decent cap hit and signed through 2018. At the age of 24 he is just coming into his prime. I would love to see Homer pull the trigger on that trade.
I agree good trade for both teams
-
JVR will make $2.5M next year. His cap hit will be $4.25M.
Johnson will make $3.5M next season with a $4.35M cap hit through 2018.
Did you factor in Carle is gone next year also 3.5 mill??
-
Bob should have been our future. I agree. But when you go and sign someone else for a 9 year $51 million contract it is a pretty clear message that the organization opted for a different direction. Unless Bryz waives his NMC or the Flyers decide to do a buyout Bob is not the future.
But they kept Bob which indicates he was the fallback plan, which will take effect now.. Teabagger will be bought out in June
-
done, do it Homer... JVR will make 4 mill a year next year,
-
Carle will be gone next year anyway as a FA, might as well get something for him..
with that said Leafs don't have much cap space
-
the ironic thing is the Schenn brothers could be traded for each other.
Leafs have been searching for a #1 center and the Flyers are loaded with centers including Brayden
-
Any suggestions? Does anybody want him?
Bob is our future, he's untouchable imo
-
Some people were riding him with the usual "bust' label reserved for every young player who doesn't light it up his first few games, or even year in the league on Philly. Just wondering if his 2g and 2a in his last 5 games are changing any opinions? Not saying he's been great, but the kid can obviously play in the NHL and can only get better.
It amazes me how much he reminds me of Richards, from a playing perspective..he's like a clone
-
Considering our lack of size at center, why not try Voracek at center? He has size, strength, skating and top playmaking ability. He is more of passer than a shooter and his playmaking might be even better playing in the middle. He will have more room to create plays , and can go up against some other big centers
I think this is a good suggestion..especially since Jake seems more of a playmaker than a finisher.. with that said we seemed to be fine at center.. but Briere has been effective on the wing in the past..
-
sure, why not. they came within a game the year they backed into the playoffs on a 82nd game shootout win. stranger things have happened. for example, carolina won a cup. make the playoffs and anything can happen.
anything can happen, but realistically it won't
-
buyouts can only happen in the offseason....during a particular week in june, as i recall. to the extent that a buyout of bryzgalov is possible (and who knows), there would be plenty of time to deal with the backup question.
I think Bob is our future anyway, we can always get a scrub to back him up...
-
because 16 teams are cup contenders come april, and there are decent odds jagr does another stint with the flyers after this season. there is nothing so wrong with this team to throw in the towel and start selling.
so you think the Flyers can win the cup?
-
Let's see how they finish up the year. The kids are going to learn a lot.
But I guess right now I would say if they get a #1-2 dman and Bryz continues to struggle, I'd try to trade first, buyout 2nd.
So if you want a buyout, who do you have playing goal? Bob? who's the backup?
unfortunantly it would be Leighton, but he can't play much worse than Breezy.. therefore I would give Bob 90% of the starts for experience..

I don't believe they are. They are fine up front but they really miss Pronger's minutes. His absence will have the effect of wearing out the rest of the defensemen, especially Timonen and to a lesser extent Carle and Mezseros. I would also say that the Lilja signing isn't working out too well, so they have problems up and down the defense corps. Obviously, goaltending is a huge issue.
In terms of moves, I think they need to focus solely on the long term. Any expensive "tweaks" to make them a little better or a little more likely to make it out of the first round should be off limits. They are kind of limited given their cap situation and the uncertainty about Proner's future. I suspect he's done for good and his cap space opens up, but we'll see. The CBA expiration also diminishes the chance that they will do anything major. This is good news because they need to avoid doing any more harm for a while. I could see them trading for a defenseman but there are not a lot of forwards on the current roster I would be much interested in moving, including JVR.
Once the new CBA is in place, they can decide if they want to get rid of Bryz based upon how the rest of the season goes. It would be humiliating for them (and Bryz), but if there is no improvement between now and the end of the season and the new CBA allows for a one time buyout without a cap impact, they will have to take a hard look at it. I kind of doubt they would ever pull the trigger on that but who knows.
agreed

@orange_crush - I didn't think the Flyers would be Cup contenders before the season started, and now I think they just might be. They've exceeded my expectations so far and I'm happy to pretty much let things ride as they are and see how the season turns out. This team can be frustrating at times but overall they are a lot of fun to watch, more so than any Flyers team in recent years. I would not even think about trading Jagr, I think he's adding a lot to the good chemistry the team has and is a good role model and mentor to some of they younger guys like JVR and Voracek (big guys with skill should be learning from one of the best big skilled guys ever). Jags looks like he's having a ton of fun and if he holds up I would definitely bring him back next year if he's interested.
I agree the Flyers have been alot of fun to watch this year, but realistically there not cup contenders, therefor why not trade Jagr and get some picks/prospects before he leaves as a FA
-
it turns out that we were correct about the youth going through growing pains and being inconsistent
Really? JVR, Giroux, Hartnell, Simmonds, Vorecek are all having career years. Read and Courts are both in the running for the Calder
I don't think there are any growing pains, it just poor goaltending..
-
My frustration gets the best of me and I say I want them to start Bob or play the hot goalie.
But then I think of the big picture. This team isn't built to go past the second round (especially with Pronger out) unless there is some really favorable match-ups similar to 2010.
Let Bryz have the rest of the year and the playoffs to work through whatever he has going on. A buyout mid-season doesn't really gain them anything.
So if Breezy struggles for the rest of the year, do you buy him out at the end of this year?

maybe they can have Shelley beat up Teabagger and put him on the IR for the rest of the year..that's productive
