  1. Prevent d never wins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Amen.

If you're winning, don't take your foot off the gas.  Why pass momentum to the other team?

Many, many years ago, I was a 14 year-old high school football player.  Our coach, (who was my girlfriend's father) ordered us into a prevent defense against a team that we'd dominated.  I knew that it was a stupid move then, and 64 years later, I haven't changed my mind.

If you've outscored a team through a couple periods, don't change your game plan.

    Dumb, dumb, dumb

  2. I'd have to agree...

Now all the Sabres need to do is get the RIGHT collection of veterans to help change the culture of not only the locker room, but also, how the team is perceived by the rest of the league.

Sabres should (and probably will) unload whatever vets they have that have value at the trade deadline, see what their young players can do the rest of the year, THEN make some smart signings in the off season regarding vets who don't mind being part of a program that is helping to build a good, solid young foundation.

All with Nolan leading the way on this behind the bench.

Good points. Sad thing is that few of their vets have much value in the trade market. I hope Sabres stick with a sensible plan of replacing vets with eager youngsters, and not resort to a selloff of the future.

  3. Ted Nolan is an ideal choice for the coach of the Sabres.

This collection of third-rate veterans and promising youngsters need the support of an advocate coach.

Pat LaFontaine picked the right guy.

  4. ah yes why did we have a lockout ? -- so the Owners would keep a larger share of the profits

    Yup.

Doesn't it make you mad when Gary Bettman refers to hockey as "our game"?  His "game" is to fatten the bank accounts of the owners.   Sometimes that helps the players, but it usually screws those of us who buy tickets.

  5. And one of the best names in hockey!

I think so too.  And, I also think his name will help him.   It's memorable, and that doesn't hurt when you're an athlete.

When he first came here, he told us to call him "Z".  He didn't think north Americans could pronounce his name correctly.  He's probably right.  I notice his teammates call him "Z".

  6. I've seen P.K play 5 times this year. He *is* a changed man. His hustle on defense is nothing short of amazing. He still has a way to go maturity wise, but damn...he is straight up desperate to get the puck out of his end. At this point, the bashers are just bashing without really taking the time to watch him closely. He has this nice mean streak when defending in the defensive zone, he's been surprisingly physical and seems to really enjoy separating opponents from the puck. After all, the guy is built like a brick **** house, it takes dedication to look like he does. His workout regime must be outlandish. That's a lot of body sculpting for a guy who is labeled lazy and uninspired.

P.K is the real deal, and only getting better. The cost of acquiring him, from a Flyers perspective went way up from our pipedream Coots for P.K potential trade that had everyone all worked up last summer. As good and solid as Coots has been of late, P.K would demand much more than Coots. I could see Voracek, Coots, Cousins and a high pick....or something very close to that package (maybe 3 of the 4 mentioned with Jake being a certainty) . Of course, I would never want the Flyers to give up that much in a package, but DAMN...would his slap shot be NICE on our top pp unit!!

People that think he is lazy and selfish, well, they are just not watching close enough. He has grown by leaps and bounds in the past 12 months. The kid is a warrior with some of the highest top end speed in the game today.

    Amen.

I dunno why some are so critical of Subban.  All you have to do is watch him play.  He's a pistol.

  7. That's my boy.

He came all the way from Latvia to Burlington, Vermont when he was just 15 years old.   Within a few days, he fit right in, which can be hard for a kid that young.  He's an absolutely great kid.  My children went up to see him play against Canadiens Saturday night.  I had a ticket, but couldn't attend.

I'll watch him and my grandchildren no matter if they're good or not.

But, it sure is a hell of a lot more fun when they shine.

  8. He had no business in the NHL this year and they screwed up his contract status on top of it. Too bad.

I think that sometime down the road, he'll be an NHLer.  But,  he's nowhere the player Buffalo expected.

  9. I do not know how they can justify trading Thomas Vanek to the stinking Islanders.

That was a bad trade.   I don't think LaFontaine will repeat mistakes such as that.

Watched the Montreal game last night.   Same old story, Buffalo has too many guys who are agonizingly slow to react.

I admit that I'm biased toward Z, but,  if everyone on the Sabres worked as hard as he does, they'd have more than 7 wins.

Plus, how did you like that dangle through Subban and the subsequent goal?
