i wish i was that guy Ed Neary's dad so i could call him into the living room and say, "Ed, can you come here for a minute?" and then molly-*** the sh!t out of his head for being such a moron. in all seriousness though, this is really what I come to expect out of certain philly fans (not *all* philly fans) these days. I sat in section 429 at the WC next to some guys from North Jersey and plenty of other NYR fans as well as a lot of corporate "guests" (the "let's go, hockey!" fans, as my cousin so aptly said) and had no problems among them. however my experience at the WFC tells me nobody should be surprised by this kind of bs in the video. Alcohol, youth, and team affiliations have a bad way of mixing. I took my brother to two games two seasons ago and one ended with some jackass punching some girl's dad in the parking lot because the girl had the stones to tell jackass to "knock it off" after he was chanting "f**k the Bruins" for several minutes while we were all walking away from the WFC, and then ending it with "I'm from Philly, motherF**ker!" (all involved were Flyers fans, by the way.) The second game STARTED with some drunk sh!thead and his 65 year-old (I'm guessing) dad trying to fight us before the puck even dropped because they thought the cashier lady was taking too long ringing us up for our beers. My brother and I have been hanging out in Philly going to hardcore shows since the mid-90s and both quit going to them and associated clubs since the early 2000s when a remarkable rise in the level of violence (not just the number of fights, but the intensity of them) became the norm. We (especially I) were no angels ourselves when we were going to shows, but something clicked when we started seeing the shift in the level of violence in fights in this area, not unlike what happens in the video. Unfortunately, this seems to be the norm now for Philly warfare. I dated a girl this past summer who lives 3 blocks from Genos and one summer night while walking to the CVS to buy a toothbrush, I walked past no less than four fights, two of which involved at least a dozen people (it was a weekend night). Philly PD should know this is a hot spot for this kind of bs, especially after high profile and competitive games like this. We've all been there in the stage of life where we just wanted to FSU (no reference to the "gang") and cause trouble. But to have something like this happen after the WC at such an obvious hot spot for conflict is partially on the PPD, but mostly on a few morons from our city. Philly fans get a terrible rap and mostly for media hype, but also for good reason. How many fans of sports teams get stabbed by fans of the same team? How many innocent bystanders get puked on by drunk morons from Cherry Hill (and rightly mopped up by fellow fans)? How many Santas get booed (ok, he really actually deserved it). We all get a bad rap and it's because of things like this, kind of like how Carcillo continues to do stupid sh!t and his punishment is exacerbated by reputation. It's no secret why fans from opposing teams treat our general good moods and acceptance of them as the exception rather than the rule.
