Yah... I think it is highly unlikely, but there's also the defensive move of not letting the rangers get him. If the rangers get him... That's game changing for several years to come. But, yah... Very very unlikely. And, yes of course... It does not fix our biggest issues.

Yah... He's a pretty solid D pickup for this team. Size and is responsible in our zone. This team's overall D is in disarray right now. I was at the game today... First one this year, and let me tell you, that 3rd period was not pretty.

while i agree that nash is not what we need now... if you're on his short list, you have to think about long term nash implications. he's a franchise type player and there's not many of them that come along. he does have a hefty salary, so obviously ANYBODY in the league will need to dump salary. but, he would make any team much better... 527 pts in 649 games for a consistently sh!tty CBJ team. imagine him playing with giroux for the next however many years. i would think that salary dumping would be part of any deal that any team makes. columbus will have to take some salary back. so, let's just dream out loud here... CBJ is looking for 4 pieces to any trade for nash(apparently). what if the flyers could offer CBJ bryz, JVR(who, incidentally is locked up for the same term as nash) prospect(harry z?) and a high pick. i'm not sure what we have left there, but it would probably need to be our best prospect and highest pick. in return, we'd get nash and take on steve mason's $2.9m for the remainder of this year and all of next year. they get a goalie that they might believe can be capable of getting him into the playoffs(at some point, not this year obviously), which is something they sorely need. LA can offer bernier, but they really can't afford to give up scoring as much as we can. who are they gonna give up to make enough room(jack johnson?)? they're almost up to the cap as much as we are right now. of course that entire idea rests on bryz waiving his NMC and whether they'd want our junk goaltender, but is that really a stretch to think that if the flyers asked him he would say yes? in that scenario, we'd be taking on just $770,000 more in cap space starting next year. with JVR's cap hit this year, i think we'll be cap compliant. CBJ gets a chance at solidifying their nightmare in net and one of the top prospect players in the league today plus our highest pick in the deep draft this summer. but, of course they'd be taking on more OVERALL salary w/ bryz ludicrous deal. we'd get nash(holy crap) and take that loser mason off their hands and make him our backup(only one more year on his deal). of course, that's likely not be enough to get the deal done. they might not have any interest in bryz and he might refuse to waive. remember.. i'm dreaming here. LA has $3.1m in deadline cap space(capgeek.com). who knows what CBJ would want from them, but Bernier would be a good bet. that's only giving up $1.25m. would LA part with Bernier, Brown or Richards, jack johnson and prospects? would CBJ even take richards? that would be HIGHlarious if richards and carter ended up in CBJ together. the Rags actually seem a more likely destination, which is very scary. they have nearly $7m cap open at the deadline(capgeek). if they offer up Dubinsky($4.2m for 3 yrs after this one), it's still gonna take more than that, they'd easily have the room. rangers always find ways of pulling off Sh!t like this too... maybe they'd throw in McDonagh($1.3m bonus eligible, though really $425k for this yr and next). that would be an interesting offer for nash. and of course they'd probably need to add some combination of pick or prospects. they've got some depth in their wings and defense, so CBJ could take their pick... BUT, they have NO future #1goaltender to offer. of course... it's also likely he goes nowhere before TD and we'll pick this up again this summer with exponentially more possibilities. but, the point is.. it's kinda homey's job to at least kick the tires on the possibilities. are we winning the stanley cup this year? NO. management could realize this right now and start planning for the future again.

great fight... it was my opinion that sestito won it. he was owning him the entire fight until the very end when kassian did land a good one that did seem to knock sestito off-balance. so i could see the rationale for thinking kassian won, but i'll go with @radoran on this one... sestito won it on points for sure. as for his injury, he was wiping his mouth as if he took one in the chops, maybe that was hitting the ice. but, several of the press commented that he was flexing his hand as if that's what was hurt as he was coming off the ice. as soon as he got up, it looked to me like his arm or shoulder was hurting... so who really knows. all we'll ever hear is 'upper body injury'.

well, it seems to be pretty common knowledge with the hockey insiders that homer is certainly kicking the tires on a nash deal. of course, it's also pretty obvious that the flyers are one of the outliers in the play for nash... so it's very unlikely. but, i'm sure homer is working the phones and some of the things he's talking about could be major shakeups. that's how homer rolls. so, it just seemed to me that he was trying to give the press some verbiage for their columns without divulging too much.... that's all. these guys always have to be very careful what they say... especially in philly(i'm looking at you bryz) because the press is so rabid, you just never know how things might be construed.

i agree with your points about carle.. i don't think anyone's worth $5.5m, but that's just my personal opinion. D men just seem to be like real estate was in nyc(before the bust)... their price just keeps going up and up and up. yah... i'm sure it will come down to what teams he's willing to go to and if what they're willing to give up is enough. i mean.. otherwise, they could just stand pat and they'll have a much larger bidding war. i think his list will open up a bit in the off-season. right now he wants to go to a contender NOW. over the summer, he might widen that for several reasons. but, what will be very interesting is if he does go before the deadline... is it LA or NYC. and if it's neither, do one of those teams go after jeff carter!? dun dun dun... party guy reunion in LA. CBJ could really use a goalie and LA has a good one sitting on the bench. they really need scoring, so a deal would make sense for a number of reasons. maybe there could be a 3-way deal where somehow.. someway... we end up getting Jack Johnson. a little underwhelming this year, but he's still young and could develop. i'm not sure of LA's cap numbers, but they've got to be close(too lazy to capgeek it right now)... so i think they'll need to lose salary if CBJ are looking for prospects and picks.

it seems it's pretty obvious it's a total waste if your team is not one small piece away from completely the puzzle. teams the like the flyers are a bit more than one or two small pieces, so why pay premium prices? having said that... i love the drama around the trade deadline and who are we kidding... who doesn't love a huge trade? i think columbus would be fairly stupid to deal nash before the deadline as there's only so many teams he could go to. when the summer comes, that opens up many more teams. especially teams that might wanna make major moves because of failed PO runs.

if a team is willing to pay him $5.5m, then he's suddenly worth $5.5m. unfortunately, it will drive up the price of D men... but, i think it's headed that way anyway. D men are a valuable commodity. especially ones that can eat up minutes in many different situations. i really don't understand the disdain for carle on this board. he's a good defenseman. sure he makes mistakes... they ALL do. did anyone see the turnovers by chara and gill last night? do you hear boston fans thinking chara is overrated? he's a good skater with offensive ability who can play in all situations. that is a valuable D man in this league.
