  1. Boy, I respect the Hell out of that post. I don't agree with the Carle thing, but I appreciate someone finally standing up and saying "didn't like him then, don't like him now." Haven't seen anyone doing that.

(Sorry if that sounds condescending or whatever. It's not meant to be. I really just found it refreshing)

I appreciate it. Carle just is not a good defenseman when it comes to playing defense. Not in the crucial moments when you needed him to just make the simple play, to not turn the puck over. He's not a bad hockey player by any means but without somebody like Pronger there to bail him out his flaws became extremely noticeable. Tampa fans weren't happy with him last year either. Would he benefit us on the breakout? Yeah. Would he shoot a puck faster than 2 mph? No. Could he help our horrid defensive play? Not much. Just not a big Carle fan. I don't blindly hate him but he did enough to warrant me not wanting him back, especially with that salary.

  2. Coburn is literally the new Carle. Full on scapegoat. Fans seem to hate him while he's here, and sure will miss him when he's gone. And blame Homer / the new GM for it.

I disagree. I think Coburn is flat-out terrible most nights. I don't miss Carle either. We need a PMD but Carle's defense was so horrid and I saw him blowing coverage or getting out-skated so many times that I would have traded him for a Butterfinger. Sadly, we got less than a Butterfinger for Carle.

  3. Funny how every Avalanche fan is up in arms about this trade. They love Downie and didn't want him gone and Tampa fans seem to have a lot of good things to say about him. A lot of people think Homer fleeced the Avs big time on this trade, yet this board is just filled with blind hate for Downie.

  4. I will also agree that Coburn is useless. He hasn't looked good since he got injured from that puck to the face. He's gotten worse every season since then and while you can't point fingers when the whole team is playing as badly as it is, Coburn just flat out sucks now. Grossmann is also overrated but that's a different conversation.

  5. Vanek sounds nice and could be a legit scorer to play with Giroux but I wouldn't want to give up too much for him. I wouldn't want it to turn into a Rick Nash situation where you give up a lot of heart from the team for a star player.

Like I said, no to Hemsky. He seems like a Zherdev type of player from what I've read on him from Oilers fans. Yakupov is really the interesting piece and I think he could be really great but the whole Russian thing and work ethic questioning make me wonder if it would be worth making the trade. It could go amazingly for the Flyers but it could also backfire horribly.

I'll be okay if this is all a bunch of BS (which it seems like it is) but I do think a major shakeup may be coming in some shape or form.

  6. I definitely would not want Hemsky. He's talented but we've had enough disappearing acts on our team recently. Not sure how I feel about Yakupov. Some people have questioned his work ethic but I don't know too much about him

I'm not all for trading Couturier though. Sure, he hasn't looked great like the former #1 prospect he was "should" look but he's only the same age as me and has played on the 3rd/4th line his whole time in Philly. I also love the heart Simmonds brings to the team and he's a pretty good player.

  7. Apparently this guy doesn't have a great track record but I figured I'd post it since there isn't a lot to talk about other than this team being bad.

  8. I envy you. You're not old and bitter yet!

The only time the Flyers sucked for a prolonged period was when I was born so I haven't had to deal with too many bad seasons, just the usual letdowns but at this point the Flyers and Eagles don't bother me when they suck or blow the game. I just laugh and say "typical."

  9. Geez....Is it going to get that bad this year that I hope we lose again for a great draft pick. I never that I would go thru that again. When is McDavid available?

The 2015 draft, so we still have two more seasons.

  10. Lavi first. I like that Holmgren didn't blow up the team this off-season and only had so much to work with without doing anything stupid. I like the first two draft choices a lot too. Some of Holmgren's big mistakes are definitely a part of Snider's doing.

I like Lavi but he doesn't seem to adjust well to the opposition, though he can only do so much with the players he's given. It just gets tiresome to watch the team come out flat every single game. That "comeback kid" thing we had in 2011 was a lot of fun to watch but it doesn't work in the long-run, like the playoffs.

All of that being said, I'm not sure who would be a good replacement as head coach (I don't really want one of the assistant coaches stepping in) and I have Homer on the hot seat as well. He got a few decent pieces this off-season but not necessarily what we needed, but there also weren't a lot of options.

I honestly think this team's success is going to heavily depend on how B. Schenn and Couturier play/develop. Now is about the time that everybody was expecting them produce and Couturier was pretty awful last season and was a defensive liability. I don't want either one traded because they're both so young and have shown flashes of their brilliance.

  11. At worst Emery will give us steady, better-than-most goaltending and Mason will crash and burn. On the more hopeful side Mason returns to his rookie form and Emery is outstanding. If it's something in between we'll be okay with that. Like someone already said if the Flyers do poorly it won't be because of goaltending it'll be because Lavy refuses to hammer into the guys the concept of TEAM D.

But I don't know how anyone can say we're not better than last year on paper. Vinny for Briere? come on. Emery/Mason for BryzAster? please, not even close. We blew money on an old guy on D who's supposedly our "puck-moving specialist" and granted he's pretty good at that. I would've rather seen younger guys take Streit's roster spot but on paper it's not a bad-looking bunch of D-men.

I'm looking forward to this year. I get the feeling it'll be Lavy's last if we don't go deep and by now even he must see the weakness has been Protecting the Net as a team. If he makes the adjustement and doesn't wear out the hotter of the 2 goalies we should have a good shot at April and May...maybe even June!

I think Mr. Lavi is gone by the midway point if the team is in the bottom 5 of the East.

  12. think we're going to be pretty crap this season. You don't lose every game of the regular season and say it's not important. Obviously anything can happen and one of the goalies can get hot but right now I'm not feeling too good about the team. The defense looks pretty bad on paper and some of the forwards still aren't performing. If Hartnell doesn't step up to how he played in 2011 then I think there are going to be some problems. I know those were his career highs but he actually played well too, it's not just a matter of putting up numbers (though we need those too).
