  1. Doom - wow you have some really good ones there! I can honestly say I remember every one of them! Awesome you got to see them. The Tie Domi fight with a fan is hysterical.

Flyers97 - Ah, the good ol sens brawl. I still look that up on youtube from time to time. Great game! Down goes Spezza!

Vincent - Can't say I've ever experienced a Flyers playoff game, but I'm sure it was insanely loud. That's awesome

  2. The sixth game of the Stanley Cup Finals between the Flyers & the Oilers in 1987 at the Spectrum. I won the ticket in a raffle at my job. The owner of the company

bought dinner and all the drinks for me and 2 others. We sat down the end where J.J. D. scored the game winner. I had been to many Flyers games since 1974,

but never heard the Spectrum rock like that. It was the loudest I've ever heard (including many rock concerts). When we left you would have thought that the Flyers

had won the Stanley Cup. It was fricking crazy!!

I still have a video tape of that game somewhere that my dad made. I know watching it on TV was one thing....being there, I heard, was insane!

    Flyers 6 Lightning 1

It was the most memorable to me because I got stuck sitting with 6 guys who were Leaf fans catching the game because they were there for golfing(insert joke here) and to catch the Superbowl. It was not a very fair verbal battle as the Leafs were absolutely horrible that year and it did not take long to quiet them down. The Flyers absolutely owned the lightning and the best part of it was in the bar after the game in downtown Tampa, I got to meet and and shake hands with Bob Clarke. That is a memory I will carry with me forever.

Very nice! Did you bust his balls at all or was just a quick "hey, nice to meet you?"

  4. And thats the biggest surprise to me, how much O this team has produced. I was not in too much of a panic about losing Carts and Richie, but I was concerned that goals would be harder to come by. I just kept saying how the D and goaltending would be good enough to overcome the drop in goals. Goaltending and D has not been brutal, but it has not been stellar by any stretch either.

This was also a concern for me, but I didn't think it was so much as the quantity but the quality. I felt that with the talent we lost the types of goals we would be getting would need to be those "dirty goals" created from rebounds and crashing the net. I am still dead wrong as I can't believe some of the goals I'm seeing from this squad. Some have just been absolutely executed perfectly and have me saying "wow, that was nice". Its nice to see the offense still cranking out some pretty goals. As long as we get more than the other team we can't lose, right?

  5. the propp, kerr, poulin, howe mccrimmon team was the team that cemented my fandom. the late 80's team could have won a cup were it not for gretzky's oilers being at their apex too. i'm with you, those guys deserve some recognition from management.

You and me both!!!!!...I was born just after Cup #2 was won and the Poulin Propp and Kerr teams were my first exposure to the Flyers (and hockey) and I fell in love, really hard with them as an 8 year old boy. I have loved the Flyers ever since but never as much as the 1985-1987 teams. Those guys were bigger than life to me and they captured my immagination.

If they ever invent the holodeck (as seen in Star Trek the next generation) I plan to program it to re-live through 1985-1987 to feel what it would have been like to win those cups vs the Oilers (and to save Pelle's life too).

That team with those players mean a lot to people like us. Those teams in the 80's were the reason for many of us becoming flyers fans and a big part of the way we bleed orange and black. The blog article I wrote "I am Rick Tocchet" kinda sums up a lot of this and made us into who we are today as fans.

  6. @aziz, you realize this means that people, unless told otherwise, cannot distinguish between you and Kuato's writing, right?

    Not good!

Well if he would have used the 3rd person I would have caught on right away. I usually just ignore anything from Kuato since after I'm done reading his posts I want to stab my eye with a fork.

  7. I don't think twodocks was trying to predict, but rather share his excitement and optimisim with the board about this team. I agree with you that 13 games is pretty early to show what a team is capable of, but there are a lot of positives and intangibles that make up this team. Maybe it's the energy some of the rookies are bringing to the table. Maybe it's Talbot playing "Lappy" like. Maybe it's the lighter locker room. There is no formula, but we all can see a differnet squad on the ice this year then teams in the past. There is reason for optimisim and excitement, but there is still a long road ahead for this squad. The potential to be a special team is there, but its still too early to give them that title. When March comes around and the rookies are still putting up good numbers and playing they way they are now, I'll be more apt to jump on the special bandwagon offically. Right now, I'm just excited for the possibility and enjoying watching the flyers play.

  8. The only thing that worries me is that we give up a lot of goals. Not so much a problem in October, but let's see if they can tighten up defensively as the season goes on.

That's exactly my thinking that goes back to sloppy play in our own end trying to get the puck out or being too cute in the neutral zone. It seems they become a different team once they have the lead and get "lazy" with their play. I'm not saying the effort isn't there, I'm saying the passing and crisp flow seems to be lost a little which is why they end up letting in a few bad goals.

  9. There is something special about this team and we haven't even seen a "perfect" game from them yet. By perfect, I mean crisp passing all game and not remembering how to break out of our own zone. We're winning games but we're still giving too much to the opposition. If they work for it and get a goal, fine....but I hate seeing break downs that should not happen resulting in a goal against.

I still don't think we should trade Schenn yet as we have yet to see what he can really bring to the table and his value is pretty low right now. Maybe by the trade deadline we'll see how the cards fall, but I expect this team to be pretty close to firing on all cylinders by then.

  10. The chat does limit the threads, but it was quite enjoyable! I never really checked the threads during the game on philly.com and always looked at the different topics the next morning. I don't think we'll be loosing anything of value since most of the topics deal with a post-game discussion on "we should have done this"...."Why did Lavi do this"....."where is JVR". The live in game chat worked really well and made watching the flyers (even the loss) more enjoyable.

  11. What can he do when they play soft like not taking the bodies or clearing the crease? How about clearing the puck right up the middle without looking. I don't think any coaches teaches that. You would think Carle and Coburn should be playing there asses off in their contract years but they are the main culprits with bonehead plays night after night.

This is the most glarring issue I see thus far with this team. Exiting our zone cleanly or even just getting the puck out! Not all the blame falls on the defense though. I see some forward players standing around and not moving their feet. I see some leaving the zone way too early. It's difficult to make that first outlet pass when some forwards aren't swinging or are out of position. I'm sure this will get better, but you're right.....sending the puck up the middle is a hockey no-no!

  12. From CNN news alert:

Penn State University's Joe Paterno has announced that he will retire at the end of the season after 45 years as head football coach.

The resignation comes after a child sex abuse scandal in which one of Paterno’s former top assistants, Jerry Sandusky, has been charged with seven counts of "involuntary deviant sexual intercourse." Sandusky is accused of forcibly sodomizing young boys. One of those cases allegedly occurred in the shower of the Penn State locker room. A graduate assistant reported that incident to Paterno, who alerted the school's athletic director but did not talk to criminal authorities. Paterno has not been charged in the case, but he faced widespread calls to resign for not fulfilling his moral responsibility.

Paterno has the most career victories of any coach in major college football history with 409 wins. His contract was set to expire at the end of the year."

  13. I think he did.

Maybe I'm just seeing it differently. I do remember seeing a few games where he didn't look like himself after that hit, but maybe he was injured. I think he lost a little of that mean streak last year that made him so popular. Was it because of the the nagging injury....maybe....

I'm not ripping on Richards by any means. I like the guy. I'm hoping Cout's can become a bigger version of Richards. So far I like what I see in the kid.
