  1. Justice from above. Or below? either way, Flyers brought down to Earth. Breezy played great first two periods so he cannot be blamed. Not when you are outshot that badly in period two. ,Ill bet there are some sad faces here tonight. Marty Broduer is ageless. But he is a classy guy. After the game interview and all. have to give them credit. I never thought the Devils would be this good this year. They continue to surprise. Not saying they win the series but they will not go quietly

  2. @Miller Time

I think they should let you swap him for another player while he's suspended. Say..Derek Roy?

Funny you mention Roy. My money says he could be dealt. But those number one picks we will cash in and we will be a monster. I don't agree with not being able to substitute a player in my fantasy team. I am going to get whacked by a point by Digity over this perhaps. i have him in my crosshairs. I believe you are in the dust homer.

  3. Haha r u trying to spin the theory that the oilers knew a new sabres owner would come in and allow them to spend so they jacked up vaneks contract to handcuff us??? Sabres screwed themselves by not signing drury and Briere. Think if we took the 4 first rd picks...

Strongly disagree. Not signing Drury was the right move. And giving into the money Briere wanted was not good either. Vanek we could not lose. We have a solid lineup that will only get better with maturity and Darcy will make a move with those first round picks. We will be a monster next year. Ill write it in blood

  4. your are correct but i am a mod and hence allowed, expected to view and post in any forum i see fit. just don't understand you crying over something that happened 5 years ago.

It may come back to bite us now. Paying Vanek more than he had coming and having to keep Miller and now we have the green light to spend like drunken sailors. So Its coming to the surface. It was a dirty tactic.

  5. @Miller Time

"This is not the Flyers forum. I have a legitimate complaint against Edmonton's upper management and their dirty tactics that are haunting us now"

I don't really get this at all. Why is this dirty tactics? Vanek was a RFA. It is perfectly within the rules of the NHL CBA for ANY team to sign a RFA to an offer sheet. Nothing dirty or illegal about it. If buffalo did not want him to be exposed to the open market, they should have signed him to an extension PRIOR to him becoming a RFA.

On top of that, you make it seem like the Oilers management had targeted Buffalo with some malicious intent to purposefully drive up Buffalos cap. The reality is that Edmonton coveted Vanek and thus made him an offer under the rules of NHL CBA. Under the terms of the CBA, had Buffalo choose to not match Edmontons offer, they would have been entitled to Two first-round picks (11th overall in 2008 and 9th overall in 2009) , a second and third (Buffalos choice for 2008 or 2009 on 2nd round and 3rd round picks). Certainly that is pretty equitable compensation for Vanek.

Lastly, while you portray Edmonton to the this big bad mean organization, I find it humorous that you do not turn ANY attention towards Vanek who had culpability in the situation by signing the offer sheet to begin with.

The perception by the majority around Sabreland was that they deliberatley jacked up the price as they knew we would match any offer for Vanek. I stand by my allegations. You have your opinion and I have mine.

  6. What are you going on about now??

    a) What are you talking about being dirty on the ice?...

    B) Buffalo didn't have to match edmonton's offer... and in fact, maybe shouldn't have.

    c) what are polotics?

    d) Your team is so bad, you're bragging about beating the 2nd worst team in hockey?

    e) You probably shouldn't call other teams 'stinky' when yours didn't make the playoffs... frig, over 1/2 the teams do!

    f) They're called the oilers b/c.... get this.... oil is one of the natural resources in the area!

    g) god forsaken tundra!?!.... dude, you live near buffalo!

You should have a blog... lol... almost said it without laughing.

    halibut2.jpg

I am talking about their deliberate attempt to drive up our cap. You have not won anything yet. We have been to two eastern conference finals in this decade so your sucess is not better than ours. Our future is very bright. We have alot of talent. you beat Pitts. Congrats.

  7. I put the hundred year curse on this once proud organization. They tried to be dirty on the ice and it did not work. So they became dirty off the ice a few years back. How? By jacking up the price on Thomas Vanek knowing full well the Buffalo Sabres would match any offer that came down. Thanks to the dirty polotics of this stinking organization we will have to do some nifty bargaining to accomodate Vanek's contract and take step forward. We did get a little vindication going in there and beating them 10-2 in their building and running McTavish out of his job and onto the CBC network. I was there this year when we pummeled them once again. Your team stinks and like the Islanders it will stink again next year. I can already smell the stench. Where in helll's creation is this God forsaken tundra anyway? Why do they call you the Oilers? Because you are all lubricated 24/7 to deal with the bitter cold.

  8. There are legitimate criticisms of Ruff's coaching style - and they are criticisms you will hear about just about any NHL coach out there.

Ruff's "stifling of talent" has taken the team from the 47th media market in the Country to the Cup Finals once and the Conference Finals three times during his tenure and playoffs 7 of 13 seasons - with the proviso that ownership was bankrupt, changing and cheap for large stretches of the "bad times."

The "talent" that hasn't been realized has been, who exactly? Danny Briere? Chris Drury? Brian Campbell? Ryan Miller?

If you thought that Derek Roy and Tim Connolly were going to be the next Briere and Drury, I can see where you wre disappointed. But of drafted players, you can add Gaustad (7th rounder), Pominville, Vanek, Stafford, Ennis and Myers. Throw Gerbe in there (5th). Enroth. Possibly Foligno, Adam, Weber, Gragnani.

Yes, they've missed the playoffs three of the last five years, but with a new management that's willing to spend money and get real talent instead of reasonable facsimiles he has demonstrated his ability to succeed at this level.

My point in this situation is that simply changing the coach isn't going to necessarily change everything and if you look at other teams around the league who have a parade of coaches through their benches while not achieving the success Ruff has in his tenure, you may very well be better off with the devil you know.

So are you trying to say this team has no talent? They were 30-14 when Erhoff and Myers were both in. When healthy they can beat anyone. You are going to see just how close they are this Sept. I say that they get rid of Weber and perhpas try and trade Derrick Roy? I say they will trade the two number ones they have for an established player. Maybeb lure Parise or Nash or Bergland. I want Bergland or Nash over all. They have built a good foundation. They will go into next season meaning business. Would you rather be in Toronto or Montreal:s shoes? I think not.

  9. Really?

-Ruff doesn't seem to maximize the talent he has - rather he dumbs down the talent to make it fit the style he wants.

-Ruff changes the line-up every game, which means NO consistency.

    -Ruff sucks at managing goalies.

-Ruff is a players coach and is too close to these players.

-Ruff plays favorites to the detriment of the team.

    -Ruff misuses timeouts

-Ruff can't keep a line together to save his life.

I think it's reasonable to start seriously questioning why all this "talent" the Sabres supposedly have is never realized.

It's not a new theory - but to me, there is only more and more validity to the assumption that Lindy Ruff's 'system' smothers the natural talent of the players, dumbing them down to a mediocre, generic product of a team. There are no stand-outs (other than Miller). There must be a reason the 'system' is so hard to play for some of these players - because it's not their natural game.

I am sure I have seen you on the Buffalo News? Anyway, you are dead wrong my man. Ruff knows how to shorten his bench and how to bring out the best in players. If a guy is not doing the job he is going to be in Lindy's dog house. IE a seat in the press box. One finals appearance, two Eastern conference apearances, several division titles. Lindy Ruff, you will not find a better coach. You will NOT. And you will see next year just how good he truly is. Darcy is going to cash in those number one picks and I mean for a player that we can win with now. We just missed. The injuries to Miller, Myers and Erhoff did us in. And Ennis. Huge losses. Make no mistake Darcy is building a monster. How would you like to be Toronto or Montreal right now? Or any of the other teams siitting home? Erhoff was playing great hockey and then that knee injury sealed our fate. And Myers injury too. We must now get McNabb up and Foligno of course will be a Sabre for good next year. Hodgson will pay off. Now I know you will not give in on Lindy. So I ask you another question. Do we keep Brad Boyes? Derrick Roy? I say we deal Weber if we can. If we cannot we keep him for depth and use him against teams that intend to bring the physical game. We will not be sitting home this time next year rest assured. Better days are ahead for us. Great days

  10. I think Buffalo did to much last year with Leino, Regher, Ehrhoff, and Adam all new to the opening night roster. I would make one move target Parise or trade up in the draft for a big player. Parise is going to cost you 7+ million easy, which means someone has to come off besides Boyes, Hecht, and Roy. I was never a big Nash fan and I'm still not to much for a player that has not done a lot. Then they maybe need to make one more small move get a 3rd line center or winger, like Chris Kelly, Brandon Prust, or Ryan Clowe. Hodgson and Ennis are your top two centers. Curious to see what they do with PK36 and Adam. Luke could be used as a trade asset to move up in the draft.

Agree with most of what you say but I love Nash. What do you expect him to do with the lack of support around him? Put him in a Sabres jersey and look out. If he is not within reach I am sure a good size talented player that can crash the net and screen the goalie will be enough. Witth Miller and this defense the sky will be the limit if we can stay healthy. When both Myers and Erhoff were in we were 30-14. This team still only missed by three and of course sat Miller once out. Far bettter than most teams that did not get in. Just look at the mess in Toronto and Montreal and thank your lucky stas you are a Sabres fan. Great days like on the horizon. I am certain of it.

  11. Pegulaville, I think Darcy is better to trade those first round picks for an established player. With those two number ones and a player we can get someone very good. Do you agree? I would want Parise or Nash. But do not know who else is available. Wish we could get a guy like Bergland too. St Louis is loaded and I expect if they go far they will have to lose some players. They may be a team worth looking at a deal with?

  12. Some in Buffalo do not agree with this. I happen to think its the right move all the way. Let Darcy finish building this team with his picks in June and use them in trading for a forward. When healthy they can beat anyone. Just look at the record when Myers and Erhoff are both healthy. I am delighted they will be back. Neither of our top defensemen would have been ready til round two so probably a blessing we did not get in. Washington sucks. I stand by that. And so does Boston right now. Ripe for the picking. The winner of the Flyers and Pens will be tough in the East. But the Rangers seem to have Philly's number? And so does Boston. I think Philly would beat Boston. I believe Rangers are more dangerous to them than Boston. Devils cant be counted out either. I still think St Louis or Vancouver will win it all. We will see.

  13. There is much finger pointing on the Buffalo News and alot of know it alls that know nothing in my opinion. I have stood up for Lindy Ruff and I stand by that firmly. Here is a rock solid statistic that backs my claim that the injuries did us in. the one on Miller by Lucic was huge but just part of the story. When Myers and Erhoff were both on the ice the Sabres were 30-14-3. When one of them was missing they were 9-18-8. Do you think that is just coincidence? No damn way is it. Derrick Roy has become a cancer in the locker room. He even said Lindy should not have said anything publically. Poor Derrick. Being chewed out. Vanek at least accepted his scolding and said it was deserved. Good riddens Roy. Your time here is done. Do you see that door? You are going to be walking out it before Lindy Ruff is. Know that fella!! We barely missed and we are a better team than Washington by light years when healthy. We will cash in our two number ones and make trades. I say Roy and Weber for starts are goners. We will be back and will be in the dance next year. I will lwrite it in blood.

As to your Flyers, good luck. You will need it as Pittsburgh has golden boy and he will get all the calls if you as much as touch him. Bettman sucks. And so does Shanahan. Hey, the Orioles are off to a good start and have a good one two punch with their starters. Their lineup is solid. There is hope. Same for my Bills. Like the song goes. "Ill see you in September".

  14. I must admit this is all very funny. That Buffalo Rick pic. But hey, I am a hell of alot younger. And you cant have it both ways. A flyers win and the Sabres make it. If we lose tonight we are in trouble. But if we lose in OT, then you can possibly get both. If Florida can win one in Wash. I wont hold my breath. We may have to win out. And hope for Cam Ward to stone the Panthers

  15. I was hoping he'd say "He is not mass murder".. LOL.

Ya ya, you're missing Myers and Erhoff, We're missing Pronger, Meszaroes, Grossman, JVR, Briere They'd be your five best players. Either you're a playoff team or you're not. As for laichs guarantee...big deal. It's more difficult to do what the Leafs are doing, missing them every year, than it is to make the playoffs.

Myers and Erhoff are worth more than all of those turkeys together

  16. When Ryan Miller heard of Laich's gaurantee that Washington would be in, he responded with a clever phrase. "he is not Mark Messier". Man is that an understatement. So where were they last tuesday when they played the Buffalo Sabres head to head? They were a joke. Ran out of their own building. The Sabres are the better team. Make no mistake about it. The problem for us is Myers and Erhoff being out. No small potatoes. We have to now hope Ryan stands on his head once again. And I am expecting Florida to be fired up over those comments. Its a slap in their face too, lets face it. You do not want to say stupid things like that the night before you play an opponent that has given you trouble to begin with. I am hoping some way some how Buffalo and Florida both get in and the goon infested Capitals go home led by that marble head coach Hunter. We do not have to win both to do it. Not if the Rangers or Florida are able to beat Wash If the Rangers come to play, I like their chances big time of beating Washington. I see no reason they would lay down.

  17. The injuries to Tyler Myers and Christian Erhoff could not come at a worst time. The Sabres showed last night they have alot of heart and never quit. Now we learn Myer's injury is worse than we expected. He will not be ready to play unless we can first, get in, and second, win the first round. Erhoff would be available if we get in. But we must go on the road and defeat two very good teams in Philadelphia and Boston without our star defensemen. It is possible we need to win only one to get in if Washington should falter and lose their two games. According to their loud mouthed fortune teller, they cannot lose. I wonder how that will go off in Florida? Or in NY? We must try and win our games. We can do it. But without Myers and Erhoff, the task will be daunting to say the least. Ryan Miller will have to be superman most likely. He has worn the cape before and worn it well. Dig down deep Ryan. We need you. I do not want the season to end now.

  18. @Miller Time

I hope either Seattle or Quebec. I noticed that on Center Ice as well regarding the cities in consideration. I think Seattle will have a stadium completed before Quebec, but Quebec has the old Pepsi Le Colosseum (SP) that can house about 15k fans.

Logistically I think Seattle makes a lot of sense and the Pacific division can get re-formatted to:

    LAK

    ANA

    SJ

    VAN

    SEATTLE

Not too sure how big of a hockey bed Seattle is. Then again I wasn't aware that the Yotes were selling seats. I am basing this off of a article that I read stating that the Coyotes were last in the league for attendance.

    http://espn.go.com/nhl/attendance

There will be lots of whining in Canada if this does happen. I believe Seattle could draw from Portland as well. And some Vancouver fans would make the trip too. I do not know how far it is from Seattle to Portland But I do not think its very far. KC also is in the mix I would assume. But I think the northwest is a better draw. They have the Blues in Missouri and they are very sound.

  19. Typical back room BS. This team needs to be sold and moved.

Is Gary Bettman so proud that he cannot admit that he made a mistake with placing a franchise is an area that cannot support the team? Now the tax payers who couldn't give a rip about this team have to flip the bill?

Let is get dragged through the legal system and maybe the result would end in Gary Bettman collecting unemployment.

Sell the team and move the franchise to an area that can support a professional team. Both financially and fanatically. Cough, cough, Quebec City Cough, Cough!

I do not know but recently on Center Ice the place has been packed. The fans have supported the Coyotes. Its Dallas that is a joke. They win and cant sell. same for the Devils and Florida. Empty seats more than in Glendale. I do not get it. But if they are to move I have heard Quebec City being in the lead. But Kansas City and Portland and Seattle keep getting mention too. I just do not know the answer. I know one thing, Bettman, NO GOAL-SKATE IN THE CREASE FELLA!!!!!!!!LOL

  20. I guess my opinion on the Rags is colored by the 7 straight losses the Flyers have against them. Friggin Lundqvuist. Sometimes a team just has your number.

Little chance of Buffalo getting the Flyers. Philly would have to win the conference, which I would have not seen as a possibility even before Bryz and his mystery foot injury

The Sabres are grabbing alot of headlines today. All over. And deservedly so. I know Miller would love nothing more than to knock Boston out himself. But its very uncertain right now. I think it comes down to how Ottawa finishes? We do not play them. So If they can keep winning and stay ahead of us, then its probably the Rangers. I have no fear of the Rangers and I know the Sabres do not either.
