  1. Well... At the end of a 12 hour shift and trying to find something interesting to focus my mind on, I thought she was trying to sound street wise and confused the issue. I actually thought I was helping!!
  2. It means to "ante up" like when you're playing poker and you make the initial minimum bet to play the hand. They "anted up".
  3. I'm all for Weber. I think everyone would love to have him. But even if you got him, Carle is probably the last guy if dump from your current roster. Will be interesting to see down the stretch...
  4. I know! A lot of you guys get on him. That article posted previously pointing out his stats and why he was your best D man though is a keeper. I think some players are just polarizing.... Either loved or hated.
  5. I'm with him on Carle. I think he's the best you've got as a two way D.
  6. You're right in that Jagr has always wanted to be "the man" and until the past few years he deserved to be. But I think that's just another side of bolstering his ego. He's tame compared to how he once was though!
  7. Penguins Trade Rumors: Jordan Staal Trade Talk Intensifies By Brendan Porath - Newsdesk contributor The Pittsburgh Penguins are reportedly entertaining trade offers for Jordan Staal. +1 update and 0 comments below. Update Jordan Staal Trade Rumors: Penguins Center Focus Of Pre-Draft Trade Talks Pittsburgh Penguins center Jordan Staal has been one of the bigger names at the heart of this offseason's trade talks. The Staal rumors warmed up again recently, with Rob Rossi of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reporting a particular offer the Carolina Hurricanes have put on the table for Staal. Ray Shero may have a decision to make in advance of this weekend's Draft. Kevin Allen of USA Today considers Staal, Roberto Luongo, and Rick Nash the three biggest names who could be on the move during Draft weekend: With the draft in Pittsburgh, the Penguins would love to have Carolina's No. 8 pick to make a splash for fans and to give their prospect list a boost. The Hurricanes also have some desirable defensemen, including last year's first-rounder, Ryan Murphy. While Rossi's report confirmed a potential deal, the rumors surrounding Staal will only heat up as the week progresses. Jun 19 8:00a by Brendan Porath Original Story Penguins Trade Rumors: Jordan Staal Trade Talk Intensifies by Pat O'Mahony The speculation has been out there for months, and possibly years, concerning the future of Jordan Staal and the Pittsburgh Penguins. With their depth at center and the impending contract extension of captain and superstar Sidney Crosby, the Penguins are nearing crunch time concerning the future of Staal. Some speculate that Staal could command at least $7 million a season, the Penguins may not be in a position to play hardball with the two-way center. A trade may be the only answer for GM Ray Shero if the Pens cannot extend Staal this summer. Last night, trade talks became more concrete when Trib beat writer Rob Rossi cited an unnamed league source who claimed the Carolina Hurricanes are offering Justin Faulk, Brandon Sutter, and the No. 8 overall pick this season, for Jordan Staal and Paul Martin. As always, this should be taken with a grain of salt, but if true, the Pens should really think about making a deal like this. Being able to bring in some young talent and emptying Paul Martin and his salary on someone else are a plus. Yes, Jordan Staal is extremely talented and deserves to be a first-line center somewhere. Unfortunately, he'll probably never get that chance with the Penguins. I'm not in the "trade Staal" camp, but a deal like this cannot be overlooked. I would rather get something in return for Staal now rather than watching him walk in free agency next summer. For more on the Penguins, check out PensBurgh. Jun 18 2:29p
  8. I've argued from the start Jagr will go where the money is. It's just always been him.
  9. Of course, but my point is they may not lose Weber if they have to see Suter go. I'm sure they'll try to resign them both, but as you said its not always possible even with a higher cap.
  10. Plus the Preds made a darn good season out of this past year. They were legit contenders. They'll fight dismantling as much as possible.
  11. Toronto is a bad enough team that a guy like Staal could be #1 center, and if placed with Kessel and Lupul I could see him doing well. He wouldn't be saddled with being a shut down center so much against opponent's number 1's either, which is where I'm frustrated with him. I think he has offensive talents he's just overrated defensively.
  12. Oh and sorry for the confusion. 12 hours sleep in four days with 16 hour shifts turned what little brain I have into mush. I think I'm better now... Maybe... I dunno why I was thinking that but Mojo's memory snapped me back.
  13. You're both right. Lol. Scuderi left the next year to free agency. he was a solid D man for us but LA came up with the big $$. As for Johnson he was the best backup i thought as well but this past season he just lost it. No rhyme or reason.
  14. Even if they'd done it at the end of the regular season these guys would never have been mentioned backing into the playoffs. They had a damn good roster on paper at the start of the year. They just found the right time to start performing as a team it seems.
  15. The article posted earlier about Carle made it pretty clear he's one of your best defenseman. In my opinion he Is your best. He's certainly the only one I don't like seeing carry the puck into my zone. Nobody else you have is a threat offensively as Timonen's best days are behind him. Defensively I think he's second only to Coburn.
  16. Actually the Pens won the Cup the year after Scuderi got high priced in free agency to LA. His last year was the loss to the Wings. The primary problem was Fleury played too many games. Johnson became unreliable half way through the season and Fleury just played too much. Add that to a poor showing on D from Michalek and Martin, then our "shut down" center Staal's blundering through three games... And you find an unhappy ending in Pittsburgh. Fleury played well from game four period two until game six. He was just out of gas completely and that was his last hurrah for the season. He'll play a lot less this year, which is why they got Vokoun.
  17. What's JVR get paid? Lol. I think I'd do that swap. Then you could be frustrated with soft play from a supposed two way center and I could get frustrated with the soft play of a supposed power winger . I think I'd do it though really to see if it woke him up and put him on Sid's wing to try him out.
  18. I'll grant you Emerick cuz he's a Pittsburgh kid, and Steigerwald/Errey are obviously our laurel & hardy tv guys... But the rest seem to fly their flag with whomever is winning at the time. Lol
  19. Only if every series was against the Penguins holy goaltending! Lol
  20. Staal is one of the most overrated Penguins I have ever seen. Everyone talks about his two way play, but I watch 99% if the games and let me tell you he's nothing special there. When he puts his effort in yes he's among the best. Problem is its only half the time. In the playoff series against your Flyers, his lack of defensive effort resulted in five goals by your orange in the first three games alone. Hell one goal he pushed to Talbot because he stopped skating and just reached out, tapping the puck away from Fleury directly to Max. If you watch Staal more you'll see how streaky he is, which I can take, but you'll realize he's Only a number two center on a mediocre team. Unless he moves to wing and gives a more consistent effort he'll stay #3 here. I'd rather see him go and clear salary cap for a good winger for Sid. I agree with your appraisal of Crosby and his health by the way, but I've watched Staal long enough to say I'd rather bet in Sid's noggin.
  21. Gotta remember though.. GAA and save % are also direct results of solid team defense which the Kings were definitely committed to. Quick earned MVP with stellar performances but it's a team sport. They ALL contributed.
  22. If only helmets mattered for concussions I'd buy him that one!
  23. Letang is a given, but if Martin or Michalek can play the way either of them did two years ago.... Or maybe prospects Depres or strait step up and earn it... They have a lot of young defenseman believed to be great prospects. We'll see where things go.
