Sorry I didn't read through the whole thread but If a trade moving Briere to Buffalo was at all possible, I wonder if the return could be something to help get Ryan from the Ducks. Just a thought for a three way trade.

I think Ryan on Giroux's wing would be a Leagion of Doom style terror in the league.

I'd give up Read for that - but not much more.

Read for Ryan is something you do in a second. Anyone that has a problem with that isn't thinking. Read is a good player but Ryan is a great player. Yes it is only 10 points difference but Ryan playing with Giroux would be unreal. That being said I just don't see the Ducks parting with Ryan for something reasonable. They want an over payment. I say just wait it out and he will be on the Flyers. Have the Ducks come to the Flyers begging when they see he doesn't even want to be there.

@DanFlyerFan I only referenced odd man rushes in regards to the Pens series. I think Lavy could have done a bit more against the Devs, but in the end, they imposed their will on us, so not the coachs fault there. He was to patient with the line combo's though...he should have broke up G's line in game #2.

He could have done that, I really don't know how much Giroux was going to do anyways. I give Giroux full credit for never quiting and giving it his all but he was not the same player against the Devils. You are right about the lines. Although we did see Jagr playing with Briere at times. I for one am excited to see how how Giroux and Voracek for a full season plays out.

@Poulin20 I like Lavy, but he's on a short leash after the playoffs. I don't blame him for the 3-4 odd man rushes per period in the Pitts series, don't think any coach could be faulted for that debacle. I do think he was outcoached in the Devs series, didn't make many necessary adjustments and went with the lines far to long when they were consistently shut down.

I am not sure Lavy can be completely blamed for what happened against the Devils. The odd man rushes weren't an issue. The issue was they couldn't keep a forecheck and they couldn't get the puck out. None of that had to do with odd man rushes. I really think that series was based on health. Giroux was clearly not the player he was. Jagr was completely invisible. Hartnell was basically playing on his own. The D was worn down. The Devils just had everything going their way.

I don't think a coaching contract is like being married.

Although, I've never been a NHL coach, nor have I been married...

I know it works that way in the NBA. I just assumed it was the same.

I think the Flyers should just wait on Ryan. He will be playing for the Flyers in Two years. Clarke will just talk to his dad and tell him not to sign with any teams and he can just walk into camp with a contract when his current one is done.

I think the Flyers are down to paying 2 or 3 coaches at this point, so they needed to extend Lavy to keep the numbers up gong forward.

Heck didn't they just finish paying Terry Murray before they rehired him?

I thought that when a coach gets fired and then hired by another team that they no longer have to pay the coach as they would only have one team pay them.

I was one who was really big on getting Boumeester from Florida. I am so glad he went to Calgary. The guy is one of the biggest busts. He is almost in the same catigory as Phaneuf. Guys getting paid that much money should be good defensively and put up points.

Weber was a guy worth going for. I like Meltzers idea of going after a guy like Bogosian or Endstrom. They would come with a better cap hit. Bogosian is a guy that I would keep my eye on. If he struggles at all this year I think the Flyers should pounce on getting him while his stock is down.

Just read on Flyersphans someone posted a tweet from Hockeyy Insider. who may even be a fraud saying that Holmgren and Poile have a conference call meeting between the two management sides. Could be working out a deal. Could be BS

We just traded for Luke Schenn and if Webber is on board Mes becomes expendable. I would rather trade him than Voracheck or Courtier.

Why not Coburn though. If Mes was just considered our best Dman just over a year ago. Why value him so low just because he had an injury this year. He should be able to comeback with limited minutes to have a full recovery. I actually would rather have both.

Flyers are far from done and that scares me a bit. I have one of those feelings we are dealing young players to bring in two players. Doan and weber. The only way I include voracek in any trade would be for Ryan. We have the cap space available to resign everyone on our team and take on weber. I'm sure if we do get weber a dman us being moved however. Although by placing pronger on ltir at beginning of season and sitting schenn for a gm( removing his bonus for 82 gms ) and demoting shelly would free up roughly 7 mil. Voracek can get a 4 mil cap hit and mab would be less then a mil. So it would work I guess.

Not sure the Flyers have that much time to wait till the start of the season to address a lot of the contracts. I don't think Schenn's bonus is that big of an issue considering they will probably waive shelley right away. As for Prongers LTIR might not make a difference till the trade deadline and that point we will have no first rounders or many picks left anyways to absorb players.

Thanks for the welcome Digity. I love Mez game. The only thing with him is his penalties but I take that anyday when you can come up with clutch goals which he seems to do. I have more value in Mes than I do Coburn and I like him too.

There are so many scenarios that can play out. The best thing to happen is Weber for the 4 picks or a few or a Dman with the picks. That way hopefully they can also package to get Ryan and maybe even have Doan sign. Then the cup with be ours.

Isn't Mez young talent? He was the Flyers best defensemen in 2010-11. Other than last year he is normally pretty healthy.
