BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Buffalo Sabres coach Lindy Ruff was clutching his right arm in pain and had to be helped off the ice after being upended by defenseman Jordan Leopold in practice Tuesday.

The Sabres had no update on Ruff's status, except to say the coach was not available to address reporters as he usually does after practice.

A person familiar with what happened told The Associated Press that Ruff was escorted outside of the arena by a team trainer. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the person is not authorized to comment on team matters.

According to witnesses, Ruff was looking the other way when Leopold lost his footing and crashed into the back of the coach's skates. Ruff fell backward, landing on his right arm.

"I was looking back and I kind of yelled, "Are you all right? Are you all right?' Right away, no. That wasn't a good thing," Leopold said of his reaction after the collision, The Buffalo News reported on its website.

"Lindy being a former player, he knew how to take the fall," Sabres goalie Ryan Milleradded, according to the report. "He took it into his body instead of letting his head whip back or else it could have been really devastating."

The Sabres have been snakebitten by injuries this season, enduring lengthy absences by players including Miller, defensemen Tyler Myers and Christian Ehrhoff and forwards Tyler Ennis and Ville Leino.

"thats one way to run the coach out of town:"

Did Gaustad go after Leopold atleast? :P

Haha! Nope he is going to wait until the next time he goes up against Leopold in a drill in practice after the media forces him with pressure. Ruff did stay late after practice to tell the media how much of a POS he thought Leopold was.
