No Trade from Y3-7, MNTC (15 team no trade list) in Y8

money is front loaded I guess(?) to make a potential buyout more palatable later on? ($6.6M/Y Y4-8)

You want to lock up a guy in his prime, and presuming he performs as the PPG player he was last season, that will pay off.

If it doesn't...

How the hell do these stats justify this contract ......:dizzysmiley-1:

Agree with @radoran, the cap hit itself is not horrible, but the length ....8 yrs???????

The stats don't justify the contract. The Blues are banking on paying for future performance.

How many times do we criticize teams for paying for what a player has done?

The Blues signed a 24 year old for 8 years who just posted a point per game season for $8M.

The Flyers (recently) signed a 27 year old who had one 50 point season and one 20+ goal season (in different years) for 7 years and $7M.

Which is the better risk?

I'll give the Blues credit for taking their shot. We'll see how it works out.

I'm afraid this will define a new norm in today's League.

Now what should we say to Robertson? "Sorry, we know that you've had two fantastic year and has been better than this Kyrou while being a Calder Trophy runner-up, but the max we can do is give you $1M AAV less, at least. If and only if we manage to bury Khudobin's deal in the minors. What d'ya think?"

Wow the cap must really be going up. Like really, REALLY going up.

If you're right, this could wind up being the equivalent of the Preds signing Forsberg to the 6Y/$6M deal he was on before this and that was just after two 60-point seasons.

I still think that in a league where the Arizona Retained Salary exists as a franchise, this isn't a terrible risk for St. Louis.

I'm going to work with the theory that the Blues weren't operating with how the Stars would negotiate with Robertson in mind.

And I say that as a guy with Robertson/Hintz as two keepers in FHL...

Indeed. But I'm more worried about owner Gaglardi heart condition: let's say there was more room to negotiate before the Stützle and Kyrou signings, and the Stars only have $6.3M in cap space.

(Of course buying out Suter would be a solution, but...)
