Josh Norris likely out for the year for Sens

Man the Senators cannot win for losing, lol

Center Josh Norris who had a breakout year last season and signed a 8 year 63 million dollar deal as the Sens look to lock up their good young talent long term is likely out for the year with shoulder surgery.

It is the same shoulder that troubled him all of last year according to coach DJ Smith.  The former first round pick of the Sharks who was the centerpiece of the deal that sent Karlsson to the Sharks had a breakout year last season finally developing into a capable centerman and adding 35 goals but missed 16 games with shoulder woes. He appeared in 5 games this season with only one goal before shutting it down stating the pain was nearly unbearable.

The Sens have gigh hopes this year locking up Norris, Stuetzle, Trachuk, Batherson long term and bring in veterans such as Debrincat and Giroux  the hope is to contend right now with the Bruins or Panthers for a playoff spot. The offense has been clicking but losing the top line centre for the year could be devastating. The time frame has not been confirmed and the sens are holding out with small hope that he can return by years end if they are still hanging around in playoff contention.

That's a huge loss for the Sens who were finally seeing lights at the tunnel's end. However, Shane Pinto has stepped up and is a nice surprise so far in Ottawa's centerline and Brassard might be a joker to count on. They are missing their #1 and #2 goalies as well but they still managed to pound the Stars in a third period outburst.

It's gonna be tough but a play-off spot is still possible.

Another crazy contract for a guy in Norris that makes you wonder if Pierre Dorion is just another Chuck Fletcher in drag.  The team has a bit of young talent.  But, they aren't going very far if they have a GM that continues to overpay that talented youth only on the hopes that they earn the contracts in the future.

8 mil AAV for Thomas Chabot?  Lmao...

Agree this is a big loss for Ottawa.
Even with a fully healthy roster they were gonna have their hands full trying to get into the playoffs in the East.
It's good that others are stepping up in the absence of newly acquired Talbot and now Norris, but still, their depth is now being depleted and could be just another injury or two away from being bottom feeders once again.

Pre season, I had Detroit, Ottawa, and Buffalo as pick'ems to get into the post season if one of the top 4 (Tor, Fla, TB, Bos) faltered, and the Sens could still possibly make it in if the team can continue to play as a group and Norris' replacement(s) can tread water or better, but they better not be hit with another injury in the near future, or they could be lottery pick hunting with the Canadiens instead of competing with the Wings and Sabres for the post season.
