Higher tax rates. IDK if you make 40 grand or 40 million you wanna keep as much as you can.

Fam pressure. Any member of the Panthers can walk down any street without being known. The lowest least known leaf would be swarmed in Toronto.

Media pressure. Ducks lose, it's fifty seconds tops on the nightly news. Oilers or Senators lose it gets directed ad nauseum until the next game.

It's freaking cold.about half the USA teams play in warm weather and about half of those have lower taxes.

I couldn't care less if players would prefer to play in the United States, for a lot of the reasons outlined by @yave1964. I get it and it doesn't bother me. The only time I have something against them is in the case of Canadians who would push their grandmother into the street to play for Team Canada when the Olympics/World Cup/etc comes along.

That's right. You mention Oilers and Senators, but it's much worse in Toronto and Montréal. Those two markets can be career killers, especially if you are a local. Also, the tax factor can be a significant one. When Radulov has two exact offers on the table from Montréal and Dallas, the net amount (i.e. the actual money that ended up in his pocket) for sure played a role and the amount had be considerable. Not to mention Québec is the most taxed province of Canada (by extension, of the Americas) where you can be ripped off by almost half of your revenue.

Another little reason is weather/location. For two teams that have comparable situations on the purely sport aspect and for the same contract conditions, you may likely prefer to stay in L.A. or Florida rather than Winnipeg (without any disrespect).
