jammer2 Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Really nice locking this kid up to a 4 year deal. I actually was pretty down on him early on this year, but he just steadily improved as the year went on. I was dead wrong about him, solid, solid d-man. http://blogs.windsorstar.com/2013/06/29/red-wings-defenceman-kindl-agree-to-four-year-contract/ Quote
yave1964 Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Kindl has turned into a solid 4-6 blue liner, who can play the power play in a pinch and has figured out how to use his size. Great signing for a bargain price. Quote
WingNut722 Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 He's solid but unspectacular. Tends to fly under the radar a lot, so he doesn't get a lot of attention. Haven't heard of him making a lot of spectacular plays, but then again, I never hear of him screwing up royally either. Quote
SpikeDDS Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 These are the kinds of players we need to hold onto in order to support our more talented players. The trick, as has been noted, is having the patience to wait for the player to develop within the system so that they are somewhat connected to the organization enough to take a little less than what they might get in FA to stay and play. When the development takes time, and fans are fickle and call for a kid's head/trade, it puts pressure on the leadership to move too soon. This is when NOT moving pays off. Unlike Filpula, where it never really did as much as we'd hoped. All of this as well as providing enough hope to the young developing player that he WILL get that shot, before he gets impatient and bolts. It really is a tricky balance to achieve. 1 Quote
